Bio: The ever illusive “Flash of Izumo”, Riko is a famous, wandering singer that, naturally, originates from Izumo. Born in Satsuma, Riko was immediately drawn into the stories and cultures of distant lands, even from a young age, becoming notorious for pestering merchants and sailors about sharing any tales they knew. Despite not being all that good with the merchantry side of life, Riko quickly found a calling with singing, using her talent to support a lifestyle of adventure, always flitting from one location to the next in a never ending quest for new sights, as well as sharing her songs and experiences with would-be listeners.
This wandering nature, coupled with her tendency to dramatize events, makes it hard to tell which tales are true and which are not, especially regarding how she acquired her Gnosis, with her own explanations ranging from being gifted it after calming down an attacking Shiryo with just her voice to earning it by outwitting the gods themselves. Still, her talent and nature easily made her into a rather well known individual, her mere presence said to bring luck wherever she stayed.
Still, even with her singing and traveling, there were a few trade secrets from Izumo that Riko kept, specifically how ‘knowledge is power’, and that there were always people willing to pay for information. So, naturally, Riko dabbled with trading information for money, her traveling nature making it easy for her to pick up new rumors and details. It was this side of her that eventually drew in the attention of one Guren Todoroki, during a fateful night where the two managed to cross paths, with Riko herself having performed at a local tavern.
Through Riko, Guren learned of the rumors regarding Hitoshi Tokiwa’s whereabouts, as Riko had heard some rumors regarding someone who fit their description during her stay in Amatsu. And through Guren, Riko learned of his quest to improve their swordsmanship, as well as the trials and experiences he had encountered during said quest. Immediately enamoured by his tale, Riko decided to (forcefully) enlist her services for him, tagging along with the wandering swordsman to assist his quest. She wasn’t a fighter, but her very presence was practically a lucky charm.
