but perhaps your adventurer would be able to write down the secrets?
Last I had attacked a tower, the main slab is good and copy able, but the necromancers have books that might be copies of the slab (it's common in my worlds at least). also the necromancers aren't hostile, the zombies are (last I played) so if you can lure the zombies out you can trap them in a fire circle (the undead will avoid fires, so in a circle they can't get out since they don't want to go near fire)

I want to make a fortress populated exclusively by necromancers
just a small heads up, the zombies raised by one necromancer will NOT be friendly to a different necromancer in your fort (more than likely a bug that hasn't been fixed yet. also necromancers don't need food/booze, but they will take any body part and raise it so no meat/skin/bone/hair ect.)
(with few isolated vampires doing the butchery & corpse managing)
I don't know if vampires in fortress mode need blood to survive, but they will throw tantrums like other dwarves (they usually outlive their clothes, so without a textile/clothe making industry they will get stressed. no clue about individual rooms)

I would say a good way to set this up is two separate fortresses (one for necromancers one for vampires),  the military should consist of squads of one necromancer with their hoard of zombies (make sure the barracks/training rooms are NOT accessible to either fort).

there are mods for this, but since you're doing this in vanilla there is lots of fun to be had.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Noobie question on stockpiles
« on: October 26, 2017, 01:44:46 pm »
2. This is incorrect (I just tested. A random stockpile giving to two random workshops). A common usage is to have one workshop give to a stockpile and another one take from it, but a stockpile can also give and take to multiple workshops (and stockpiles, but a circular linkage will probably result in eternal hauling) without issues.
I remember reading that some where. well thanks for telling me I was wrong.

Also what skill do i need to have enabled for dwarfs to build still kitchens workshops etc? For some reason my buildings werent getting built...

the skill needed is very obvious, kitchen needs cooking, still needs brewing, masons needs masonry, ect. however a few workshops need architecture and some need one of a few skills, craftdwarf's needs any crafts skill (wood crafting, bone carving, ect.), fishery needs any fishing skill (fishing, fish cleaning, fish dissection). hope this helps.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Noobie question on stockpiles

How do set up a workshop to take from a certain stockpile and that stockpile to take from another stockpile? Basically what I am trying to do is have 1 big stockpile and then in my workshop have smaller stokpiles of wood stone etc so my workers dont have to go far to get materials. So how do I let my smaller stockpiles take the wood from my bigger one and have my workshop take from my smaller piles?
Hope that makes sense lol...

P.S. I have set up my smaller wood stockpile to take from my larger one but no one is taking wood from larger one and placing it in the smaller one. Grrr what am i doing wrong? Does my first big pile need to be full of wood before it gives to my smaller ones?

1) think setting up a stockpile like this confuses the dwarves so they keep moving it back and forth from the stockpile, I believe there is an option that makes it so a stock pile doesn't take from another one.

2) you can't have more than one worshop linked to a stockpile, if one is already linked the new one that is linked will overwrite the old one

3) my recommendation is to have a big storage room dug out behind the workshop room (I usually have lots of the workshops in a big room to save time.)

1) The curse requires [CAN_LEARN] in order to work. This allows/disallows a lot of megabeasts, allows animal people, and removes regular animals from the equation.
The wiki says nothing about this, guess it needs to be updated or some more !!SCIENCE!! needs to be done.

just three questions I had as of late

1) can less humanoid creatures be were-beasts (not human, elf, dwarf)

2) does the infection spread if there is no bite

3) the most interesting were-beast you've had

I was playing as a eagle man, I had just killed a hydra. I was running off a nearby cliff to start flying (just thought it would be a cool) but as I ran off the cliff I remembered that my left wing was broken in the fight. Ended up falling 20z levels to my death.

they want that in the game, probably something like "I killed _____, and I have proof! *shows decapitated head*"

You can also install a door in your entrance to the caverns, and lock it when you don't want dwarves down there.

that is generally a bad idea unless there are traps behind the door. some creatures can break the door down/pick the lock on the door (open it even though its forbidden, then again these creatures usually have trap avoid)

on the embark screen hit tab a few times until you can see the elevation of the zone you are embarking on, then just look for a river/lake/brook that
is going through different elevations.

1) build cage (with mole rat) build lever
2)connect lever to cage
3)pull lever
