I still say we shouldn't mess with the forest at the moment. The kids are already a loss, and killing ourselves in the forest won't change that. Besides, even if we do manage to save the kids, we will have to explain what the fuck we just did when no one else managed to do anything before. Let Bale deal with it if he seems fit.

That said, if we must deal with the forest, let's do it right. Outskirts, or ideally some clearing. Try to lure whatever the beast is into the open, and kill it fast. Don't give it a chance.

On other points, damn, the order empire is certainly low on social mobility, huh?

What's the pagan barony?
Othem, a castle in Gotland I keep for the levies. Which is rather strange because Gotland is my starting county as well as christian.

The thing about republics:

Finally, after a good while, a lot of tyranny and truce breaking modifiers, some severe dishonorable modifiers for showering my enemies (and my fellow patrician families) with assassins, and a single major revolt (I expected more to be fully honest), between a few generation of rulers, I managed to unify and organize my realm, form the Empire of Scandinavia (well, the principality of Scandinavia actually :P), finally press the claim of my anti-pope against the pope, making the pope downright my vassal.

Urgh, still playing as the Republic of Gotland, and damn it's hard for them to grab a kingdom equivalent title. Republics can't usurp kingdom and empire titles, the uncreated kingdom nearby is Pommerania and it's pagan exclusive, and it have been quite hard to try to grab a claim on Sweden, specially since I try to keep my rulers really high on the Stewardship. Any ideas that don't involve modding?

Natural Selection 2 and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare are 66% off. Endless Space alone is also 66%, and its expansion 50% off (or the package for 50% off of the discounted package price, which saves you about 1 USD if my conversions are correct. :P). All up to July, 1st.

So, question time: Is endless space worth it?

The AI is the same for all the factions, don't forget. Their canon characters wouldn't act like their AI characters if the devs could code a decent imitation of a sentient human being.
As it stands, we're not there yet :P
Not quite, actually. Each of the leaders has its own AI personality, and Miriam's is one of ridiculous belligerence, where you either have to keep bribing her heavily or she will declare war against you. Even if you can crush her.
Quote
Given the way she talks to Zhakarov, she isn't just worried about the other factions being evil - she's worried about them killing off humanity. Same wavelength of planet, almost.
It's the kind of thing that if she is proven right, yeah, you could call her justified, but if she is not proven right she can be worried as much as she wants, she'll come over as a belligerent imperialistic nut-job, unless the other side are doing things outright like throwing planet-busters around, but that's enough for all nations to declare war against them.

Finally trying my hand at a republic, I'm now at 1198 from first 1066 start (yes, England is Norway's now. Except the city of London. That's mine. :P), playing the republic of gotland, I gotta say, DAMN I make I lot of money. I keep around 50 gold per month, after paying my heavy family dues (oh the cost of having 23 trading posts... :P). I'm pretty sure if were not the death blobs around I'd be the premier power around. I can certainly beat my previous liege, Sweden, around like a ragdoll, and most likely can do the same with Norway (although I'm slightly less certain given they can grab troops from the England as well), and that's even before considering the ridiculous amounts of mercenaries I can hire if I get some time to prepare (and/or arrange the death of some older and richer dynasty members :P).

Hell, my next plans are either conquering Denmark or Conquering Sweden, I just can't decide which. :P

On a sidenote: Just to confirm: The "designated heir" title is exclusive to republics right? I can't suddenly use it to make it ridiculously easier to pick a heir in a feudal kingdom, or can I?

Yet, in game the Believers not only get a research Malus, they are ridiculously over aggressive. Sure sure, "stopping evil", but given Miriam loves her crusades gameplay-wise, it's generally, in the best case, the imperialistic "let's invade them to stop their internal evil" kind, which is, at best, quite suspect.

Something I never got: Occasionally people here speak about grabbing stuff in towns or houses after moongates, but whenever I try it always keep saying that it's not mine and don't allow me to do so. Am I missing something?

Yes but I didn't actually play dnd basic. In fact when I first started playing pen and paper RPGs 3.5 was out.
And yet this game was based on D&D classic, and used its conventions.
Thanks for random comment Felius!
You are welcome. :p

But seriously, you were the one that complained that this game was responsible for the trend of making races and classes the same, which was pointed as coming from old D&D, upon which you mentioned you never played old D&D, which doesn't stop the game from taking the tropes from that which it was based, that is, old D&D, which includes races as classes.
