DF Modding / Re: So, world.dat files when Notepadified...

Turn off save compression in init.txt (right at the bottom, just turn [COMPRESSED_SAVES:YES] to [COMPRESSED_SAVES:NO]).

If the world.dat now shows as world.sav, you should be able to open it with Notepad and read the raws of the world's procedurally generated materials, MBs, and interactions. A warning, though: the text there is disorganised as all hell, so reading it right from the file will be a pain in the rear.

Yeah, I tried to defend them earlier, but I agree that we need to DFhack them all away now for the reasons outlined above.

That said, how would we wipe them out? AFAIK, DFHack's exterminate only targets units on the map, rather than in the world, and getting into those hamlets would be practically impossible.

How're things going, Glloyd? Your adventure still going well?

That's what the beard is for.
The beard actually is the Dwarf; the rest of the body is just a decoy [/absurdtheorising]

Thread Tax: reanimating a hostile foe in adventure mode as a regular zombie, letting your enemies kill them, then resurrecting them as an Intelligent Undead will cause them to attack their former allies while completely ignoring you (unless attacked, of course).

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?

(Looks at the grammar and capitalisation of several posts).

I can feel the Warp overtaking me. It is not a good pain.

Thread Tax:

I'm trying to kill my way through a Dark Fortress in my spare time (in between IRL bits and work). Six hundred and twenty two Goblins down, nine thousand, four hundred and fifty two to go (not counting the 4000+ Trolls and Beak Dogs present). It'll probably take several runs - the usual work/living pits are full of enough goblins that the FPS tanks and the game goes 'not responding' for about ten seconds at a time. And that's with only three adventurers, as the Necromancer army I was intending to bring/create on site would probably crash the game from sheer 'oh god please no more creatures'.

DF Modding / Re: What should I start with when first learning to mod?

Going to agree with AW on this - though I also suggest you look through creature_standard.txt, as the DWARF entry has a lot of useful commentary on what certain bits and pieces do to a creature.

"Healedwhips the Awe-Inspiring Despair". Sounds like quite the cheerful little place.

Good luck with your turn, Glloyd.

How do you take control of your companions?
Press 'c' on your keyboard. That'll bring up a menu showing your current companions. Press Tab, and you should be given the option of which character to control. Press the key shown next to their name, and you should be in control of them.

Alternatively, just press the Tab key until you take control of the companion you're looking for. It's quicker, but not as precise.

You don't need to go underwater. If you're at the river's edge, you should be able to see down by (l)ooking and pressing >. If you can see down one tile, take control of your other adventurer and have her drown in the river. Then go back to your Necromancer adventurer, use the intelligent undead option (using > to go down in view to where her corpse is) and (Tab) back to the newly-resurrected companion. Equip her with the gear she dropped on death, and you're done.

That said, check the temperature before you do any of this! I'm not sure if it's due to being encased in ice or due to being rezzed once, but an IU that gets frozen doesn't seem able to be revived again, and it wouldn't do for your newly-rezzed companion to be permakilled due to being unable to get out of the river in time.

OOC: My apologies for being inactive, it's summative assessment season at my uni.

A completely rotten heart won't actually kill you, while a bleeding one can make you drop dead in several steps.

Okay, had a closer look at the raws and I can see what you mean. Turns out that method would also bloat the LegendsViewer adventurers list to an extreme, so that ill-thought-out (let's be frank, I have the foresight of a blind lemming) idea can be safely disregarded.

I can agree with memorialising the ghost. Losing is Fun, but losing due to what's basically a bug is not Fun.

EDIT: Also, a question: when resurrecting a recruited companion (i.e.: not from character creation) as an Intelligent Undead, is using DFHack's bodyswap command to get around their inability to equip gear (due to their NOTHOUGHT token in world.sav) allowed or not?

DF Modding / Re: [MODDING] CREATURE & ENTITY QUESTIONS THREAD

May have already been asked before, but I noticed the wiki says the FEATURE_BEAST tag has been unlocked for modded raws. Does anyone know what it does now that we can use it ourselves? If not, I'll go ahead and experiment myself.  :D
I think that's what causes Forgotten Beasts to act like they do (attacking from underground, rather than the surface). Or it's what causes the '[Name] has come!' popup.

The map (at least, my crudely-altered version of it) has the clown-car towns marked out:

Spoiler: HoPs (click to show/hide)

As for Werebeasts, Raki reeaally got around. I count around 111 'passing on the curse' bites on historical figures, give or take a couple and any non-HFs that LegendsViewer didn't pick up, and all of them are Weremammoths. Something tells me this will be very Fun indeed, though becoming a powerful Werebeast may now be a fair bit easier.

All of this said, though, I am going to have to request that you bump me down 2 or 3 spaces. University assessments (formative and summative) are coming up for me for the next two weeks or so, which means I probably won't be able to do what I have planned for my turn.
