I'm starting to put together a mod for a Lord of the Rings themed mod. It is not going to stick exactly to Middle-Earth but I'm going to do everything I can to keep the flavour and the playstyle you could imagine from Lord of the Rings.
Patch NotesAdded:
- Elves - Elves are (overwhelmingly) finished. Only their magic and nobility positions need to be added to them.
- Giant spiders - Attercops (the lesser species) are finished, great spiders still need to be done. Nobility positions need to be done, too.
- Hobbits - Mostly done, not much different from humans except in terms of size.
Added:
- Orcs - Currently only really tower orcs are functional.
- Dragons - Cold-dragons (non-fire breathing) and fire-dragons (fire breathing) are currently implemented. There are plans for smoke dragons down the line.
- Languages - A LOT of language files are done.
Reworked:
- Basic civilizations. Closer to how it's going to be at the end of it.
PlansHumans - No work needs to be done for the time being except for splitting into two civilizations:
"Good" humans - Standard.
"Evil" humans - The same as above but with thief and babysnatcher added.
Elves - Split into:
High elves - Strong, powerful and many are born with wonderful innate abilities. Able to make artifacts.
Grey / Green elves - An interbred mix. Grey elves are lesser high elves whilst green elves are almost at a human level of power. Able to make artifacts.
Dwarves - Remove crossbows, change around some metals and these should be about right.
Hobbits - Chubby farmers who live in burrows and towns.
Goblins - Changed. Most are genderless and immortal (they have shortlived breeders who pop them out before dying) and have various castes. In addition, they have two different civilizations.
Uruk / Orcs - "Civilized" orcs. Basically what is currently in DF but with more specialised castes.
Goblins - "Uncivilized" orcs. Cave / cavern dwellers.
Giant Spiders - Cruel, intelligent, evil forest dwellers. Shelob / spiders of Mirkwood with various castes.
Druedain / Woses / Drugs - Men of the forest. Basically vanilla elves.
Out of these, I hope to make high elves, dwarves and hobbits playable.
High elven - Spoken by high elves alone. Based off Quenya.
Low elven - Spoken by grey / green elves. Based off Sindarin.
Dwarven - Spoken by dwarves. Based off khuzdul.
Humantongue - Spoken by good humans and hobbits. Based off Westron / Rohirrim.
Blacktongue - Spoken by evil humans, goblins and giant spiders. Based off black speech.
Forestspeech - Spoken by woses.
Dragons - Cruel and greedy beasts of many shapes and sizes. Some are able to fly, some are able to breathe fire, some have four legs, some have none.
Wargs - Great fierce wolf-like beasts often ridden by goblin-kind.
Wraith-curse - Desecrating a temple or seeking immortality can make a creature into a greater wraith who's soul is bound into some item upon their body (commonly a sword, crown or ring). Only by severing this from the body can they be struck down. They have the ability to raise lesser wraiths (who then can raise undead), resulting in great power.
Dragon-greed - Desecrating a temple or seeking wealth can begin the transformation into a dragon, as the dragon-greed takes over them. Some just transform whereas others begin to be able to breathe fire or grow wings.
