DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: How can I make Sense of This?

Thanks guys. If vampires control towns now that would be interesting. I think I'll just wait until someone with more experience than me figures out what the whole "blood-drinker" thing is about.

All of the citizens of the town say it.

Thanks for responding. I attacked Plabat, She was a Dingo-man and didn't attack me when I accused her of being a night-creature. One of her dingo-man flunkies attacked me and then attacked and killed her. I have no idea why. Then I killed him. Whoever I asked about the leader always said what I mentioned in the original post. It didn't seem to matter what their profession was. I am exploring the rest of the dungeon now. There are skeletons and corpses everywhere.

Is there some way I can find whatever "blood-drinker" apparently rules the town and kill them?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How can I make Sense of This?

I've pretty new to adventure mode and I'm playing a Jaguar-man hero adventurer. I've run across a town with lots of abandoned shops and such. I asked who the leader is and they say, "bla bla bla, not that it matters, as the seat of Gallec Galleycrest is here, and the blood-drinker allows no chattel to rise.
I've also gone into the dungeons (maybe tombs, because of all the skeletons..) below the keep and found a bunch of humans and dingo-people murdering each other. I wanted to find out why so I asked their profession. They always say, "I am a lieutenant of the boss Plabat PlankedScorches. Can you lead me to battle and an honorable death?"

So I posted this so someone can help me figure out what's going on. I have so many questions. :/

Is Gallec Galleycrest an organization?
Are they the criminals under the keep?
Do they actually run the town?
Why are they killing each other?
Is their boss a vampire?
Why isn't Plabat listed under "Ask about somebody"?

DF Gameplay Questions / Breeding and Sizes
« on: July 14, 2018, 01:01:07 am »
I'm curious how to precisely tell a creature's size. I have two male horses and I only need one. I'm hoping that picking the larger one will let me breed larger horses. However, one has no description of it's size that I can find. The description for the other one states, "He is average in size". So how can I tell which one is bigger?

Hello, I built my own gaming PC recently and I was wondering about how well Dwarf Fortress will run on it. I read a thread here from 2010 talking about how the game will only utilize a single core. Is that still the case? How well does it handle RAM? My computer shouldn't have any trouble running it, but I am curious about how to optimize the game to run as efficiently as possible. I am a Computer Science student but my knowledge of hardware is still pretty shaky.

My Specifications are:
Windows 10 Home x64
i7 8700K
16gb RAM

DF Gameplay Questions / Adventurer Questions

Hello, I've played Dwarf Fortress occasionally over the last, I dunno, maybe eight or nine years. I'll spend years away and then come back for a month or two. I've gone through the wiki but I still have a few questions I haven't been able to find.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there's a way to get armor for adventurers larger than humans and smaller than dwarves. I've read in this forum that you can apparently "tailor" some in a fortress, but I'm not sure if that means you can just make a suit of armor and expect it to fit any size adventurer, or if there's more to it than that.

How do you find out whether the places your adventurer could ask directions to are caves, tombs, etc?

I've heard that sometimes adventurers start with weapons other than copper spears. How and when does this happen?

Exactly how OP are whips and scourges? Is a -copper whip- better than a platinum warhammer?

Is there a way for your adventurer to use a blunt weapon and not be bothered to shuffle equipment whenever they want to butcher something?
