Nice catch with flooring webs 10 levels above floor. I will be walling those spider webs, so no Dwarf will be deconstructing it later on, when standing on top and then falling to his death. I will need load one month older save to catch those webs. Someone was mentioning on forums once about importance of cleaning and walling off caves. Now I understand why. The vermin spiders' webs.

Should I channel and smooth cave's sandy floor too?

So, if there is a largest embark with huge 3 caverns with literally 100k spider webs, then game will crawl to stop? OMG! Lag death OMG! So I need floor those webs. I can ignore the useless upward slopes though? I do not think they are counted by the game like construction blocks, or are they.

I cut down the trees and I am channeling some rocks out of caverns. Mostly to make them more roomy, then getting tetrahydrite. I noticed something funny. Totally not affecting the game (I hope). Cave spider silk web are floating in mid-air in caverns. I know this is the same bug in Dwarf Fortress, as with the birds resting in mid-air in Adventure Mode. However did you ever see it in caverns? Did it have any consequences for you for leaving it there? Like endless spawns of cave spider vermin? What are effects of just leaving cave spider sil web just floating in air? In Adventure Mode lying in mid-air birds were invulnerable to bolts, arrows, spears and stones.

Just curious.

PS. There are in the same cave mid-air unattached to anything useless downward slopes. Should I remove them? They have no upward counterparts, so how do I even remove them? What are consequences for just leaving these useless downward slopes there high in mid-air? Is it ok to just leave them there?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Why train animals? (And how?)
« on: May 05, 2020, 01:11:49 am »
You could keep wild animals cages, so you can train all your crossbow Dwarves into hunter profession. It makes simpler, when looking for them in u-menu, when they are civilians. I do this to guard squad lead by guard's captain.

Else civilian soldiers do pop up all over place in u-menu, unless they are peasants, which can be confusing sometimes when you look to assign some free Dwarf with new profession. An alternative is to make militia fortress. Then all Dwarves get to be soldiers and craftsmen. Though sending them out, can be detrimental on how your fortress work. The positive is all Dwarves get barracks quality time for focus and happiness.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Getting Dwarfs To Spar
« on: May 05, 2020, 01:04:36 am »
My schedule for squad is train 2 all year with exception of 1-2 month when all 10 will train. They spar with no issues.
The thing with sparring is, it generates an enormous log, which can be issue if you want to browse after something in 100 mb text log. Imho reports log and announcement log should be separated. In game you will notice Dwarves sparring, when your announcement screen goes from 30+ pages to 1 page and sometimes 2 pages long.

This is depressive. Barely after 2 seasons I discovered 2 more stressed Dwarves. :( I disabled hauling on those Dwarves and will see, if that fixes the issue, again. This rain is a murder.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Friction is deadly in this version!

That's nothing. I had tantrum in my fortress once. Very strong military Dwarf hit with a fist a passing by civilian. The civilian flew through solid constructed flood and hit floor on a lower level. Lot of blood and gore all over the place. Crazy. Though, there was no hole in the floor in above level where the hit took place. Teleportation through walls is patched, but not yet through floors.

- Dining hall in tavern, drinking in temple, ensuring all dwarves will be No Job in both. Downside is waterskins interfere with the idea.
I tried this solution. I still have dining halls in both tavern and library and barracks in the tavern. Dwarves do not seem to idle much in libraries though. What I do not have any more is drinking stockpile in the temple. Great idea and works superbly, but with one issue. Socializing is relieving stress, while praying is only satisfying focus. So, I put these apart. I never got any priest on any of my embarks, even on latest 0.47.04 embark, but I guess this would help with this combo drink+temple issue.

Military does not need waterskins or backpacks. Those even create issues, so I disable those in supply in military menu. Military in active training will go to temple for a drink, but they will return asap to tavern, where barrack is, to keep training. :D

I had once a follower, who become duble after I slept in his hillock. Fire her from your group. Then seek her up and hire again. Maybe, this will fix this issue for you.

DF Suggestions / Re: Stress and Surroundings
« on: May 02, 2020, 10:51:46 am »
It might be a good idea to mention that your embark started in DF version 0.40.24 (released in January 7, 2015) when you post about stress, because my embarks in 0.47.04 seem to be a much different experience than you had. I'm just a little concerned that others who didn't see when you mentioned 0.40.24 will get the wrong idea about stress balance in the current version 0.47.04. There seems to be less need for adjusting PERSONALITY:STRESS_VULNERABILITY in 0.47.04. Thanks in advance!
Good point. I made embark in 0.47.04 and after 5 years the largest embark zone's bug killed its play-ability. I did not provide any sleeping rooms and just basic Dwarven alcohols. Still, despite rain, I had not a single depressed Dwarf. Toady supposedly made test and run fortress with 20 types of booze for 5 years with not a single depressed Dwarf until sieges arrived with dead bodies and gore.

However, this old embark was already played for 5 game-years on 0.40.24. I played on 0.47.04 this embark then for additional 27 game-years. This is not covered even by Toady's tests. Majority of mechanics are working. I copied raws from 0.47.04 into my save and tweaked them, so I have functional library for example with 2 books so far and 1 copy and Dwarves keep reading those just fine. Guildhalls are working also as advertised for socializing. Still all 271 Dwarves are vastly affected in personality changes almost exclusively by rain. Maybe this rain issue has been addressed in last 5 years of DF development, but then why it still affecting my old embark, when I play it on 0.47.04? A rain is a rain, right?

I am sure some new players' embarks will have lots of noob issues, which will cause even more stress on Dwarves, then some stress relieving features missing from this old embark. Won't you agree? That is, specially if they keep playing it and playing it for a long time. :)

DF Suggestions / Re: Stress and Surroundings

This just seems like another misguided, "how to help new players with the broken stress system" post. When the answer is, fix it (planned).
There is already a temporary fix for the broken stress system.
regionX/raw/objects/creature_standard.txt
[PERSONALITY:STRESS_VULNERABILITY:0:0:0]
This fix makes it easy to manage stressed Dwarves, as you usually need to get them just focused. Focused Dwarves are efficient in relieving stress. It works in my game so long. It did stopped the red arrow cancer, but it does not remove red arrows or stress entirely from the game. Just makes stress more manageable.

Outsiders of any race will also have a large dagger (20 E/P) to resell, while human-civ will have some type of 10 E/P knife to resell.
Do not sell the large dagger to any Dwarf in your starting settlement, or every single return will cause crash to desktop!

I just  go for skills and stats too. Peasant needs it all. lol
Anything else can be looted from dead corpses or made through perfect fucus giving smashing 2 stones. :D

She most likely got better from being able to talk with her friends and enjoy the tavern. That's stress relieving regardless of the completely separate focus and needs system.
It would be so, but I was like hawk on her. Moment she hit "socializing!" in purple i put her on squad stationed in temple. I had issues with broker earlier, who instead of trading was glued listening to a story. Drafting works best to break this enchantment. I made sure she got focused first. However, it is still possible that she talked stress out in meeting with mayor and then got stuck there in tavern again on "socializing!" in purple. She has no friends, only passing acquaintances and 2 deities, which she prays to. I disabled hauling stones on her. This should prevent her to get wet from every single rain. Suddenly with the 0:0:0 setting, the stress is manageable.

74
I disabled all hauling on the Dwarf. I got it focused by performing 2 armor making jobs and,,, drafting into military, stationing into temple, because she was stuck socializing in tavern, despite all social needs for focus fixed.

Month later stress went away. I guess this is all temporary thing on this Dwarf.

Still, fixing focus made stress go away. Focus is impacting how fast stress goes away. Dwarves are really really bad at managing their temple/tavern/library own needs. Very very bad. It seems the location Dwarf somehow ends in, when out of job, glues them to that location, despite all needs there satisfied and in other locations needs are not satisfied.

You could add coin stacks combine and split reactions into adventure mode. Like combine 2 stacks of same material coins together. Then split 1 coin or 10 or 100 out of it. I would like that. Unfortunately Toady added year for coin production. This thing differs coins of same type. I think year could be removed from the raws for coin creation.
