The store next to the one I work caught on fire. There were no casualties and no damage to us or any other building thankfully but we couldn’t open for business.

Keep trying, you'll get the right one.

Nah, I like my job and contrary to the popular opinion about working in retail sales, I like it more during the holiday seasons. Time flies faster when you have something to do :)

I've found that despite their lower health, hive princes can make great combatants. Mainly because they get a racial 20% combat speed bonus. Hitting the other guy first avoids a lot of damage. Skeletons on the other hand get a combat speed reduction of 10%.

Aside from combat speed, melee attack/martial arts (MAt/MA) skill level is also important. I did a solo run recently (shek martial artist) and I often found myself caught in an endless dodge loop when facing large groups of enemies due their constant attacks. It seems like there is a breaking point at having about 10-15 more MAt/MA than your opponents than lets you start your attack before them.

Do note that I use a mod that increases the number of attack slots, so the exact breaking point might be different in vanilla kenshi. I use the x2 mod IIRC.

More so if you use something like the Fashion Kenshi / Wear two hats mod.

Thing is HN's friendship is as genuine as the authentic skeleton repair kit, all it takes is one unlucky hit (losing a leg) and boom you are in the HN's most wanted.

Just stop being so rude to those guards and priests "harassing" you and you'll be fine. Say that you're a loyal servant of Okran and show them your Holy Flame. And consider hiring a male spokesman for your outpost, it's hardly a major expense by the time you're actually building outposts.

Except you can have their damned Holy Flame, you can have a male greenlander spokesman, you can be polite to them and proclaim that Okran is your lord, hell you can even have positive relations with them on top of it all and their asshole inquisitors will still demand that you "surrender your beasts* to be send to Rebirth or they'll kill each and everyone of you".

*Beast = shek

By your logic you can claim that UC is paradise on earth by simply not being poor. Just bust your ass on the nearest mine, get rich selling the ore and just bribe anyone that tries to give you trouble.

No no no! Not like that!

Always pour a bit of the liquid on top of the powdered stuff and stirr it until it becomes like a thick paste. And then add the rest of the liquid. That way you won’t get those nasty floating clumps that refuse to dissolve.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Help Setting up a Farm
« on: December 23, 2019, 04:05:57 am »
The safest way would be the good ol' bucket brigade. Channel down, from the z level above where you want your farms and then designate a couple of pond zones (on the z level above the farms). Each pond zone will generate a single "fill" job at a time (that's why you don't just make one single pond zone) where a dwarf will grab a bucket full of water and dump them in the pond. Remove the zones once you hit 1-2 levels of water and let it dry. Put your farms in the leftover mud.

Due to their convolutent layout it's notoriously easy for creatures to get stuck in otherwise impassable or dead end tiles (climbing/dodging on mushrooms/ledges, etc), which could explain the starvation issues. Assuming, they did die of starvation and that you have an otherwise open path to your stockpiles.

The proverbial tree would have burned if it could burn in the first place.

The world by itself is in a dynamic balance when you start a new game. Some things1 can and will change during gameplay regardless of the player's actions but in general without the player's influence2 the world will generally stay in the same state of affairs.

1. NPCs will get injured or die by fighting, they might get better at certain skills, some of them might become slaves to the others, animal dens/bandit camps might get whipped out. Your base might have visitors regardless of whether you are there or not (they won't do anything but they'll still come). These kind of stuff will happen but they won't have any sort of lasting effect.

2. There are the so called campaigns, where one faction can move against their enemies. These get triggered by certain events like the death/kidnapping/imprisonment of particular NPCs which are extremely unlikely (if not completely impossible) to happen without the direct involvement of the player.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to check who is sieging me?
« on: December 19, 2019, 10:30:23 am »
In game you can see in the civ tab ( c-c) you can see the civs that you have established contact with and see with which you are in peace/war. For more info on which specific site send that siege you'll have to look into the Legends.

The in game way (Legends mode) requires that you don't have an active fort in that world so make a copy of your save and on that copy, retire your fort, go into the legends mode and look up your fort. Alternatively once inside Legends Mode you can export the world's history and use a 3rd party tool like Legend Viewer to look up the info you want.

DFHack can open Legends Mode even within Fortress Mode but it's not recommended.

There's no generic way to check the civ of a creature that isn't part of your fort, but in the case of sieges you can check their equipment. Breastplates in particular will be decorated with the symbol of the army's civ. (Soldiers in adventure mode also have this going on)

Really? I had no idea.

wet is better than ice and snow, which is what is on the roads here atm.

Barely and only because it just isn't cold. Both roads and sidewalks are as slippery as if they had ice and in certain places the sunlight gets reflected so much that you can't see anything.

Walls are wet. Cars are wet. Roads are wet. Everything is wet. And the WTF part? It hasn't rained since Saturday, this is only due to humidity.
