Someone suggested I start a thread to document my travels and other hijinks I tend to find myself in, as they make for some interesting stories.

Current location: Phaya Thai, Bangkok, Thailand

Hi! I'm Kael: World traveler, freelance writer, semi-professional fire performer, former Buddhist monk. I have been to 5/7 continents, and along with family have flown over a million miles. Some other labels include liberal hippie, atheist, humanist, ontological and epistemological social constructivist. I'm training as a ninja to fight the Dos Equis guy for the title of "Most interesting man in the world".

This is my story...

So feel free to ask me anything. I will be regularly updating this thread along with other writing I do.

Author's note: These are creative works of non-fiction. While all of the things here have most likely happened, names have been changed and embellishments added to protect the identity of those involved.

Todo list - titles subject to change (feel free to request I work on something):
That time I spun fire in a strip club
How to get deported from Myanmar with style
My Father
My Mother
Life with Bipolar disorder
BYU and living with Mormons
SLC punks, my time spent running from the police
The Killing Fields and Toul Sleng genocide museum
Angkor Wat
Fire dancing and how I became a pyromaniac
Firedrums 2012 - this festival is superior to Burningman
Notes about recreationally friendly drug use as a non-user
When I caved in and tried shrooms and acid
Excerpts from my time as a Theravadan Buddhist Monk
Living in the Netherlands
Why France Sucks and other European travels
Silly England
Japan. Enough said
Hong Kong wong-time
Socialist Singapore and how my mum hooked me up with a model
Rio de Janeiro is about the sexiest place ever
Aussieland
On dreams...

Looking pretty good :D Too bad it's a year away. I think Peter Jackson will do good on this.

Last year around this time we had a donation drive to set the monthly donations off the charts!

As most of us know, Tarn's sole income comes from our goodwill. Now I know the economy is bad and all that, but I think we can do better than last year's $9416.16 in December.

WHAT SAY YOU?

I pledge $20 to the cause. Every little bit helps.

Spread the word with exuberance!

So I'm what you might call a semi-professional fire performing artist.  :P In this thread I will catalogue the creation and upkeep of various fire weaponry and tools as well as videos and other projects I have worked on. Questions from budding/existing pyromaniacs welcome! I am however, not responsible for anything that you decide to do at your own risk.

DF General Discussion / Awesome Dwarf Fortress Halloween Pumpkin Artifact
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:12:56 am »
Courtesy of Reddit - full album

Quote from: Lolologist
This is a pumpkin. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with pumpkin and encircled with bands of pumpkin. This object menaces with spikes of pumpkin. This item is adorned with hanging rings of pumpkin. On the item is an image of Autumnsquash the Awe-inspiring Autumnal Artifact in pumpkin. The artwork relates to the masterful pumpkin created by the dwarf Urist McLolologist for the Lulz of Reddit in the mid Fall of 2011.

As recommended by Total Biscuit.

As recommended via RPS

As Total Biscuit described, this game is a pvp multiplayer that plays a bit like DotA combined with Homeworld. Your hero ship is customisable and if you buy the full game exp level-able. You have a choice of different skills/abilities that are upgradable.

You start at your base and the point is to level the enemy base. Maneuvering is very important, as you cannot turn on a dime and you can dodge projectiles, broadsides will wreck you, and ramming an asteroid will kill you.

It seems pretty fun. Anyone for some DFC/bay12 games?

DF Suggestions / How Elven cities should work.

Hippie engineering!

In places where normal wood bridges would simply rot because of constant heat and moisture- the Meghalayan villagers of India grow living bridges and other buildings out of trees that take 10-15 years, and some that have been growing for 500 years!

Creative Projects / Kael's collective internet radio/stream project
« on: September 03, 2011, 03:13:23 am »
Phase one is up! We are simulating a LAN through hamachi and streaming music through itune's share feature.

No, I am not giving away music - get off my ass, RIAA.

I've uploaded half my music to the server and it's still in progress:
26958 songs, 81:21:30:58 play time, 142.65 gigs

Step 1 - download hamachi and install it.

Step 2 - Connect here:

Step 3 - Install/run itunes and you will see KServer on the side of your connection bar.

Step 4 - Enjoy an eclectic taste and lots of music from all around the world and various genres.

Share your own if you are so inclined!

Questions/comments: Check us out on teamspeak3 or to bug Kael about the status of his other hosting/game server projects!

Fuck yeah, humanity?

World population of homo sapien sapiens:

Quote from: TFA
The general expectation is, however, that population growth will tail off, with U.N. predictions for 2050 ranging from 8.0 to 10.5 billion.

What is clear is that the proportions will shift between the continents, driven by high birth rates in Asia and Africa. Soon India, with 1.2 billion currently, will take the lead from China, with 1.3 billion, as the world’s most populous nation.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country today with 162 million, will see its population increase to almost 750 million by the middle of the century.

Another example: highly industrialised Germany and developing Ethiopia each have a little more than 80 million people. In another 40 years, there will probably be 174 million Ethiopians, while Germany’s population will decline to 72 million.

Interesting facts:
The average human lives 67 years and will have been alive for 0.6% of the time that modern man has lived on Earth, and yet of all the humans who have ever lived, seven percent of them are currently alive - numbers from TFA.

“In the next 40 years we will have to produce the same amount of food as over the last 8,000 years,” - direct quote from TFA.

Our growth overall is unsustainable and the current "westernised" economy/standard of living is impossible on a global scale.

We may be fucked even before fossil fuels run out because we will run out of phosphates for fertilizer to grow food. Yay!~

Discuss.

Three rules:
1. Follow rules of the forum and don't bicker
2. Don't be an ass.
3. If anyone even hints at eugenics I will lock down the thread.

SCIENCE!

So maybe we're all illegal aliens. 42. Whatever.

One of the best TBS games of all time - let's go! SMAC- it's Civilization: IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

Other Bay12 members are also welcome to join for MP- we've been planning this for awhile. We discovered that for multiplayer to work, you have to use tunngle - hamachi doesn't cut it.

Post if you're interested and related stuff.
