Do NOT email me, to ensure everything stays organised.

Address/P.O. box/location of where you are able to pick up mail including country and all necessary postal codes.
YES/NO whether you are able to ship internationally at your Post Office or buy gifts online (This way I can edit the RNG to not have someone with no credit card in Europe have to ship to Australia)

Optional:
Steam screenname ONLY if you would prefer to receive a digital game gift instead of a physical one.

Rules:
-Keep maximum price gift + shipping under $30. It can be lower or higher, but this is baseline.
-Nothing that would be considered inappropriate for non-adults. Cute chibified Cthulhu plushies are awesome. Actual eldritch tentacled abominations (or anything else with tentacles) are right out.
-Avoid perishables: food, kittens, things that risk breaking while in transit.
-Use common sense. Don't send anything that will have the CIA and Interpol after you.
-Ship by early December after I close sign ups to avoid the holiday rush.

I'm floating the idea of a bay12 secret santa.

Basically we give gifts anonymously, as determined by a RNG, to a person we are assigned. Whether you later choose to tell them who it's from is up to you.

I would run it, so I would know where all the gifts should go, as the creepy monk I am (I'm trustworthy enough, aren't I?), and would call out anyone who doesn't send.

Registration would have to begin soon and we would have to discuss costs, shipping before Christmas. If we have at least a couple people interested, I mean, heck - we can just send crafts or little knick-knacks to each other, but I figure it could be worth a few good larks.

So, any brave takers - post here.

Post your country of origin so I can determine how viable international Secret Santa would be.

We always have flamebait religion threads, usually with theists and atheists calling each other out about everything and any tiny perceived faults. I don't think we've ever had a Buddhism thread.

Within a month or so, I'll be serving as a monk in the Theravadan tradition. It's a temporary thing. It'll be a few months as I travel from temples in the Bay to forest monasteries and Thailand. I don't expect to achieve nibbana/enlightenment, but I'm going for my own personal growth and learning. As a philosophy/religion, I believe Buddhism has many concepts that can help anyone, including non-buddhists and practitioners of other faiths/ideals, lead better lives. For example, I fall under the wide umbrella of atheist, secular-humanist.

All of it comes from the realization that life is suffering, and there are practical methods of diminishing our pain - a middle path.

I've argued with, sworn at, asploded you in games, shot ya'll with giant cannons(bigger guns the better), and lit some of you on fire... but I do so with a warm sense of loving-kindness and compassion for all beings. May they all find peace. :)

If you have any questions, wanted to call me crazy, or ask me why I'm not becoming a D&D monk, feel free to do so.

This continues along the fine conversation we had earlier when we had those debating with me. This is how racist you have to be before the Tea Party kicks you out.

Mark Williams, leader of the Tea Party Express, following accusations of racism within the Tea Party from the NAACP, wrote an "open letter to President Lincoln from 'colored people'".

How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.

Level-5 - of Professor Layton & Dragon Quest 8+9 fame, Studio Ghibli - of some of the most beloved animated movies, and Joe Hisaishi - who did the music to some of their movies such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are teaming up. They're making a game for DS and PS3.

The ps3 version is cel shaded and is being done by Studio Ghibli to mimic their own animation style. The gameplay looks like real time pokemon.

The ds version looks as though it will be standard old school RPG fare with stylus drawing to interact with the magic book the main character has.

I'm excited, and I don't even own a ps3. Then again, I grew up on Totoro.

What is Defcon?

It's chess, but with nukes. The game is easy to learn but difficult to master. How you play the other players is as important as how you play the game. The ability for backstabbing, political intrigue, and happily blowing each other to smithereens in Defcon can't be matched. It and 3 other games are $5 on steam until July 4th.

So let's get some bay12 games going.

None of us really remember/know how to play. Pandar nukes the crap out of woose and umi while my europe screens for him after I accidentally quit the game. London survives a blitz of a couple dozen nukes and planes sent at it.

I know we have the steam thread and most of us are on steam anyhow, but just throwing this up so people know.

Tons of stuff are on sale, with blowouts every day.

There are tons of collections of games from publishers for the price of one new game $60 (lol COD:MW2)or less.

EDIT: I know I'm picking up Mount and Blade: Warband for $15. Europa Universalis 3... dunno what else.

Combat in .31.01 is a little strange. A quick look at the raws reveals many inconsistencies in the numbers that lead to quirks such as the dominance of axes and two-handed swords while rendering ranged weapons and blunt weapons near worthless. Strange materials like gold hammers do better than iron... etc.

Since Toady is busy with bugfixing, I want to have an open discussion about the best way to ensure proper balance for gameplay.

This is the second release of tweaking I have done to combat on my own with testing in the arena.

Please post your thoughts, as I want this to benefit as many people as possible.

Gameplay changes:
In vanilla, armor leads to endless battles where armies are collapsing from tiredness whacking at each other without any effect. Weapons have been generally buffed.
To counter axes having wildly higher numbers (ratio-wise), short swords and many other weapons swing with greater velocity or got boosts.
Blunt weapons and maces are now much more effective, especially against heavily armored foes. No more beating on something unarmored forever.
Slicing weapons should do better against unarmored foes, where removal of limbs ends battles quickly.
Bows and Crossbows no longer merely "dent skin" and are back up to deadly levels (but not one shotting) They still do poorly against armored foes but it is not impossible.
Spears no longer pinpricks. Spears got a size increase and penetrate much more.
Temporarily removing most undead creatures from game until sever-on-breaks for skeletal creatures is fixed.
Bronze Colossi faced slight nerf, more changes pending.

Future changes:
Finding a proper balance for other megabeasts and Bronze Colossi.
Further rebalancing of weapons and armors
Balance material properties for armor and weapons.
New weapons further tweaked to reflect real life counterparts.

So, I just had a steel armored elephant with fighting skills charge into 50 grandmaster elven archers and lay waste to 47 of them before bleeding to death with thousands of arrows stuck in it.

Best I've seen so far - youtube allows you to watch their videos in "ASCII" mode to "save bandwidth" by adjusting the HD to "text" mode.

I suppose that if you watch a let's play of Dwarf Fortress the universe will asplode.
