Yes and no.

You can have dwarves mount creatures, but not YOUR dwarves.

Right now it's hardcoded so you cannot control mounting. The only mounts that work currently are mounts for civs that siege you. But yes, you can add a mountain biome, [BENIGN] type creature that is [MOUNT], and dwarf civs would use them if you ever got sieged by one (perhaps as a goblin/elf/human fortress).

Good because I think if it could actually hurt someone, it would be illegal... Or at least it would be in Canada... the place where having Pepper Sprey is against the law. (Judging by how I never seen Pepper Spray used on someone who actually needed it... I can't say I am against that law)
Things that hurt people being made illegal in the US? ;)

Not likely to happen soon.

You aren't going for full authenticity with the Tanuki, are you?  Because that will make for some very disturbing combat sequences if the weapons land on some of their more prominent features...
hahahah... thought about it ;)

I'm probably going to cut some corners during body creation on the most disturbing Japanese legends. People will be encountering creatures and have no idea what they are unless I offer a short explanation - which I'll have.

Asians have pretty fucked up folklore... actually, forklore is fucked up in general. The uncut brothers Grimm and such... man. Disturbing stuff.

EDIT: Here's my fix and more Chinese weapons. It'll read "Japanese iron katana (longsword)" now.

That is unfortunate, I suppose I'll just add the adjective to the name then.

I created more weapons and cleaned entity_default today. I also had my friend who is better at Japanese than I look over the translations to fix whatever I may have messed up when I did quick translations.

Also, started adding creatures. I will probably have a release before I get through ALL the creatures I plan on doing, so that race/play balance can be tested by you guys. I value your input and will change things as needed before adding new races and more creatures, spirits, and items.

Universalist. I believe that regardless of religion, you are judged on the content of your character. Also, I  believe there's a Higher Power that we can't comprehend, and it has never really talked to us. (In the Jesus or Bhudda sense)
I don't think you know what Buddhism is ;)

Whenever he encountered a question about god or gods, Buddha stated that god/gods were 'irrelevant" in the truly important thing, nibbana/nirvana and true happiness.

Most Buddhists do acknowledge the existance of various gods, spirits, etc (it did spawn from hinduism) but realize gods don't have control over your happiness if you don't let them. That's all based on the strength of your own mind/spirit.

kind of offtopic, but right now weapon attack speed and FIRST STRIKE is based on overall character speed due to overall character weight/agility and not weapon length though weapon weight factors in a bit in overall character weight. Shields also give bonus counter attacks which is great for shield users and crappy for two handed/dual wielders who don't get bonus counter attacks.

But that's an issue for another thread perhaps.

So I was reading the dual wielding thread and was sparked to post something that has been bugging me for awhile.

I checked the dev log, but didn't search through all of it, so let me know if it's been discussed before.

Currently, the only way to avoid blows are for shots to miss, to dodge, to block with a shield, and to absorb with armor.

We CAN (only while in martial trance?) bat projectiles coming at our face out of the air with our weapons.

h'okay, so... Can we give our weapons a moddable % chance to parry other weapons?

It could be smaller % than block on shields, but allow more diversity of weapon types as well as make combat in later stages not so "who gets the first hit and sends the guy flying through the air instantly". Battles will involve more hitting and missing, and imho be more intense.

This would allow dual wielding a weapon in each hand not to be so worthless compared to shield users. There would be a higher survivability rate for two-handed weapon users who right now I believe are much easier to take out, much more than they should be compared to shield users.

Parrying perhaps can be made to work against smaller or equal size weapons, but not against much larger ones like polearms - thus giving a another reason to create large weapons instead of one handed ones.
 
This can create a whole group of weapons in DF that IRL were used mainly to parry/break/disarm the opponent's weapon. And while I don't believe that all three should be implemented, it would definitely be an exciting addition to DF combat.
