DF Modding / Re: Can someone tell me what's wrong with my megabeast?
« on: September 28, 2008, 12:39:16 am »
You could remove modvalue and genpower with megabeasts.

The main issue I see is no organs/unfinished body. There's no way that thing is alive.

No point in having [liSP] without [CAN_SPEAK]

Also, check your errorlogs. It should tell you.

Keep in mind these are only a few of them and not final and subject to rebalancing.

Right now Japanese swords are slightly more damaging than the others, with more crit. Ninja Shinobi weapons will mainly do piercing damage with high crit - assassination style. Chinese weapons are less subject to getting stuck, as I believe due to their fighting style. Thais will do more blunt focused on brutal attacks along with their muay thai. I'm not sure how to balance Koreans yet, but may give them better shields/armor.

I'm checking to see what people would like, because as of right now it's changed the vanilla DF races to: Japanese Samurai, Japanese Shinobi, Chinese, Korean, and Thai with more to be added - maybe other mythical beings.

Each race/civ has unique weapons and armor from their feudal past (no guns) and temperament I've made to fit to their cultural history. It will be harder to forge metal armor than regular DF. Weapons will also be much more varied and large, damaging weapons much more difficult to create.

Unarmed combat will feature moves from each civ's martial discipline. Jujutsu for Japanese Samurai, Ninjitsu for Japanese Shinobi, Shaolin Kung Fu for China, Taekwondo for Korea, and Muay Thai for Thai.

If you want an idea of what sort of detail I'm going into - this isn't finished yet.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A list of creatures I'm incorporating are here so far
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan
as well as hundreds of other dragons, yokai(demons), obake(shapeshifters), yurei(ghostly spirits) and everyday plants/animals from Japan like tomaru chickens, pigs, koi, noma pony.

I hope people will enjoy it more than all the work necessary to finish it :)

DF Modding / Japanese Mythology/Samurai Fortress mod: v .6 released!
« on: September 26, 2008, 09:04:52 pm »
Samurai Fortress version .6
http://www.mediafire.com/?heyts0n2vyx

Samurai Fortress aims to be a total conversion mod of DF, turning it into a mythical age of Japan.

Current races are:
Japanese
Chinese
Koreans
Thai
Mongols
Shinobi
with more to be implemented.

All with customized weapons, armor, items, and personalities that will be added onto and fleshed out
in each new version.

There are over 500+ new creatures in this release.

Bodies and attacks have been totally retooled. Embarking in evil areas is much more difficult.

To be done: more fleshing out and balancing of creatures, move more creature descriptions over in raws so spam doesn't flood adventure mode messages, more balancing of races and more races, finish and add more japanese translations.

I'm debating to go all out and convert everything to romanji. ;)

Would there be an interest in a total conversion mod featuring mythical/feudal Japan with yokai and various other creatures and ninjas out to spill your blood?

So i've just barely got into this game.  Can someone recommend a few really good mods?  Also, is there a mod for removing the cap on units on the battlefield?  What about adding more blood/gore?
Warning: To get all the good mods, you have to DL older/different versions, because the modding module hasn't been released for the new version yet. But if you have a bought serial key, it'll work on them all.

You can get older versions from the Mount & Blade file repository (google) and mods as well.

IMHO - the best mods -
Battlesizer (Changes battle size up to 1000 - works on all newer M&B versions - unless you have a good comp don't set past 400)
The Last Days (Middle Earth) for v.808
Hundred Years War (Self titled) v.9?
Gun Thunder (M&B with guns/cannons) v.965
Expanded Gameplay II (adds loads of stuff, enough to play until past level 30 - basic main quest/plot for immortality) v.9?

If you go into the mod folder of the mod you want to edit, and click on the module.ini, scroll down to blood (ctrl+f) and then change the number from 3 to something like 100.

That'll make it so when someone gets whacked blood sprays everywhere. Keep in mind it'll lag your comp in large battles. It only works for that mod too, so you have to change them all.

There's a mod for hardcore mode where you can die, but otherwise, you're just captured and get money owned.

Main development is done, I suppose there will be some bug fixes but everything else will have to come from modders.

Ahh, so I guess it's from tabbing through the civs screen on embark?

That's news to me, gotta edit that then.

It's what tests and the wiki say as far as I know, unless Toady's changed it recently. I could be outdated, but I'm pretty sure. :P

The game will randomly pick a race with [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] for you when you embark in fortress mode.

That's why it's advised to only have one with the tag at a time.
