Hey everyone, I want to mod some creatures but I gotta say, despite the explanations on the wiki, I am still a bit confused how body parts-tissue layers - tissues interact, or rather, which commands do what exactly.
For now, specifically, I want to add shearable HAIR to a custom Giant Bumblebee, as well as pollen that accumulates at its legs.

Shearable hair is easier since I kinda copied what I found with sheep, but still, don't quite understand what I am doing. This is how it looks currently:

I got a couple of questions.

1. Since bumblebee's bodies are defined as INSECT and the body detail plan calls CHITIN_TISSUES and EXOSKELETON_TISSUE_LAYERS, is it even possible to call STANDARD_MATERIALS again and plaster HAIR on it? Does it actually require SKIN?

2. As far as I understand, here I cover the entire bumblebee in rather thick hair, right? If I just want to cover a specific body part with hair (like the thorax and abdomen) or the legs (maybe even specific legs) with "growing" pollen, how would I select that specific part? Is that even possible?

3. Just for absolute clarity, what exactly is happening here [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:BODY_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS:HAIR]?

I'd be really thankful if somebody could help me understand the logic here a bit.

A visibly drunk group of dwarves, tankards in their hands, reels to the bookie's office. The drunkest of them steps forward and bellows:

"Ssevenshy bucksh on that chubby rat in the pww.. prrhe.. the pwriesht robe...!"

He gestures roughly towards the elegant and ernest figure of Cupuaçu while he sprays out 70☼ over the table, about half of which lands on the other side with a metallic jingle.

"Ouur shhweet little boy loves'em chunky, huahaha-*beeelch*"

They do not seem to have noticed that they will probably not meet in battle unless both reach the semi-final.

Sweetteeth stretches and wriggles through the mess of guts and bits of bat-face left on the arena ground as the crowd's hollers and hoots steadily fade into more of a disgusted rumbling and shooing. It seems almost as if Sweety gnawed and slurped his way entirely through the midsection of poor Nick, although it's really hard to tell for certain at this point. Only sure thing is that the Leech Man is enjoying himself. After what felt like minutes of embarrassed silence, only broken by the occasional gasping of the crowds, the drunken cheers of Sweetteeths entourage, and of course by his own gulps and slurps, he finally emerges visibly satisfied out of the hematite-colored pile in the middle of the arena: his "face" - for lack of better term - now framed by the fine silk of his opponents trousers he apparently squirmed into in his gluttonous frenzy, now hanging in tatters over Sweety's shoulders.
Sweety's mouthhole, shining wetly in the light of the torches surrounding the fighting pit, opens and closes rythmically to the beat of his entourage's clapping. "*Slurp-gurgle* This *suck-plop* was *rasp* satisfying" he squeezes out of some part of his bat-blood-swollen body.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

Just tried out Legends Browser II for the first time to get a feel for my current fort's world, having a look at some of the deities, and wasn't disappointed.

Sweety's dwarven entourage wants to bet 50☼ on the Yeti because they like his white fur.
Sweety slurches in agreement because he likes the Yeti for his powerful cardiovascular system.

Known to his friends as Sweety (his real name is unknown, since his face seems mainly to consist of a gaping round hole of teeth), this agreeable fellow became a good friend to a dwarven fortress when he was found deep in the lower caverns, stuck on a towering demon who nearly broke into the fortress proper, sucking its boiling demon blood and minding his business. When the distracted (and visibly discomforted) demon was struck, the dwarves didn’t know anything better to do with Sweety, now unlatched, than shoving him into some spare armor and enlisting him in the fortress’s Wrestling Squad. Currently lacking any demons or forgotten beasts to throw him on, and to keep Sweety nice and turgid, they decided to submit him to this years tournament. Telling by his increasing drooling and eager snapping of his mouth hole, Sweety seems to enjoy the idea.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Ridiculous Artifacts
« on: December 08, 2022, 03:55:34 pm »
One artifact I just found in my Legends is "Thiefnoble", a porcupine bone bed menacing with spikes of platinum. While crafted by honest dwarven weaponsmith Etur Cloistergulf of the fortress Staffrelieve, all of Thiefnoble's craftsmanship is of the highest quality.
It was gifted to one of my civilization's many necromancer-corrupted nobles, a fish cleaner turned baroness of The Controller-guild of rocks.

Of course a bed made of porcupine of all things is ridiculous, but it's also one hell of a statement.
Stick it to the dwarf, literally!

Good that you are back Ryukan!  :)

Yeah I was only dubiously certain about the correct location of the magma gate levers, so that was one of those instances where I only wanted to pull it in the worst case scenario. xD Also the only siege that came was a bunch of gobbo recruits, mostly, so it didn't feel necessary.

Ahh, I see, sorry. Thought thats kind of expected to upload it there, hehe. I tried another email now and sure thing, it worked immediately. ^^' So here is the file: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=15823

Fighting pits sounds great, it surely won't be the last critters that stumble into the cages at the entrance.  :D For now the Ettin is caged in the center of my pitiful plaza, fyi.
