« on: January 21, 2008, 04:19:00 pm »Nope, still wasn't it. Now I've got a stuck dwarf. I've lost about 3 so far because of this crap. I did find out dwarves won't build from bridges.

HOLY CRAP THEY DID IT! Thank god that guy was a soldier carrying rations and water. They came in hordes to build anything they could, then they went away and don't look like they're coming back.

DF Gameplay Questions / Hauling problems/Dwarves refusing orders for no reason
« on: January 21, 2008, 01:41:00 pm »Also, I have a main access tunnel filled with traps and a huge removable bridge leading to a bucketload of spikes. Since I have to build the traps at the bottom of a chasm and perform maintenance after the sieges, I thought I'd build a small access tunnel and some bridges to get down there. For some reason, they HATE going down there for anything besides removing buildings. Getting something dug is hard enough and I've ordered countless bridges which no one wants to design. And yes, the architects aren't busy, they've designed about 20 bridges so far (massive hunger/trauma problems, don't ask). Not even floating floors get built, only if I set them on cave floor.
Please help me, I can't survive a goblin assault unless that bridge gets built.
Update: And now for some reason the engravers started smoothing those maintenance tunnels about a year after I ordered it...

Since I'm on a very tree-light map I guess this fort is scuppered and that the inevitable dwarven-doom came a little sooner than was expected... and from a totally unexpected direction</STRONG>
I'm facing almost the exact opposite, I detected the magma just fine, I just can't build anything :S Are you sure you're trying to build over a full channel? I think they need to be full

Edit: I'll try to clarify it:
I used an iron floodgate and connected it to a lever before digging to the magma. I just noticed the floodgate is now a "floating" piece of furniture about 1 square east of where I placed it.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Water-building
« on: February 07, 2008, 09:03:00 pm »The water also froze very strangely: Some strange patch of the brook remained liquid for a couple of months before freezing like the rest of the water. I had tried to heat the brook up from below with magma somewhere else before I noticed it. not sure if it's related. The late-freezing water was about 15 tiles away from the place where I heated it up.
