Creative Projects / Here I unleash some of my music & art projects
« on: July 08, 2018, 05:22:03 am »
So, some time ago I decided to try and see if I can still track some music after a hiatus of approximately ten years. As a result I made an album just for fun and never got to spread it further than my circle of friends.

The tracks are heavily influenced by old computer/video game soundtracks from the 80s/90s (especially Monkey Island 1 & 2) and therefore chiptune was the way to go for me. Other sources of inspiration were crappy fantasy films from the same era, pen-and-paper RPGs and Dwarf Fortress had it's own place to play in the creative process. In addition to the music I drew some illustrations to accompany the tracks and hopefully tell some kind of a story as a whole.

Here's a link to the Youtube video (includes all of the artwork):

And here's the artwork (if you'd rather just check them and not listen to the music 8)):

(Constructive criticism & feedback are welcome.)

Just popped a beer open and I think I'll watch some Critical Role this time.

It's a neat system, but some tweaking I think is in order. I've seen a few dwarves now completely change their attitudes on life because they got rained on once.
You should have made more bad things happen to override his puny rain stress.
One of my dwarves is "impervious to the effects of stress, after being caught in the rain."

I can live with that.

Another one "would just as soon have nature and the great outdoors burned to ashes and converted into a great mining pit" because of the same reason.

That's excellent, but what am I looking at in the second picture ? The girl's look on her face is priceless tho
Oh, yeah, that probably needs some explaining. Long story short: I made a poster for a couple of friends yearly party and at the previous party some drunken guys had decided to have a wrestling match naked. So it's a reference to that. :)

And nice work with your comic. Likeing the forest background a lot.

Been a bit lazy putting up any newer artwork, so here's a couple of older ones from 2014 (if I remember correctly):

So, now my legendary cook decided to a bit overdo a lavish meal and made a yak's milk roast worth 2198393 dwarf bucks.

I'm currently drinking beer and playing DF, sweet... 8)
How much beer are you planning on drinking?
Might I suggest a Drunk Fortress turn? :D

Maybe some day when I plan on getting properly drunk I'll try a turn in Drunk Fortress. :)

So, one of my war dogs restrained at the entrance of my fort sort of decided to spontaneously explode in a cloud of gore for no apparent reason. Now every creature within 5-6 tiles are covered in spatterings of mountain goat and/or troglodyte blood.  Um, okay. :o

Rubidium would definitely get the upper hand as I couldn't do anything else but vomit and maybe beg them to stop.

Do you happen to have more recent work, by the way ?

Yup, I'll probably make a separate topic later today (or this week) for that, as the newer stuff is part of a music & art project which I did some time ago.

Also another WIP, a bit of work on body language

Nice. Waiting to see what the final picture looks like.

You're not a pro? I assume you're at least formally taught right ?
...right?

Nah, never really liked school (unfortunately) so I didn't apply to any art schools even though my friends/family/teachers tried to encourage me to do so. I've been pretty much inking pictures since a kid so I've had plenty of time to practice (I did have a period in my life when I didn't do anything art related for around ten years as I didn't find time for it). I've also studied carefully the works of my favourite artists/inkers and tried to figure out how they use their ink. It took some time to find a style which works for me and that I'm satisfied with.

Anyway, to stay on topic, here's a couple of color pictures (from 2013?):

make the viewers eyes hurt with a cacophonic mish-mash of black & white

The second picture I posted a couple posts above actually has this problem in some parts (though it could be way worse).
