I haven't been around for a while, so I'll just share a couple of random pics from last year...

Here's one where I was just testing some new brushes. I'm not so satisfied with the background, but I can live with it:

And here's one where I was trying out some character ideas:

The king of my civ suddenly died. He had been a king for only 1 year, so I got suspicious and decided to look him up in Legends. Turns out he was struck down by the mayor with a weapon called "Crestbust And the Coming Troubles".  The weapon was... an iron-bound book. With three other kills.

In my fort a monster slayer went to hunt some troglodytes in the caverns and tried to bash them in the head with a book called "An Exploration of Animal Diets". Unfortunately things didn't go so well for the monster slayer and he ended up being swarmed by the trogs and pummelled to death with his sock.

this is some old school goodness, wouldn't be at all out of place in an early 90's game.

This is actually something I sought to achieve. So, nice to hear. :)

seems like you're one of those almost annoying multi-competent people who can both draw and compose well.

Well, I've still got plenty to learn in composing and it's been a long road to learn how to make something decent sounding. 90% of the time I'm just completely frustrated while making music and feel like quitting altogether. But then when you finally manage to pull up something that works the resulting feeling is totally worth all the trouble.

I'm currently working on a second album, but am having a really bad creative block so it's a bit hard to say when it'll be finished. Could be anywhere between a couple of months to several years. In the meantime I'll try to make some random music (and hopefully illustrations too) just to atleast get something accomplished.

Nice fish! :)

I haven't really managed to finish any stuff during this year except for one track that I did a bit over a month ago. We had a small competition with a couple of friends to make a summer themed track within a one week deadline.

This is what I came up with:

Nice work as always, Cathar.

I finally managed to put up some of my newer artwork. So, here's cover artwork from my album (late 2016):

(I actually made a separate topic which has all of the illustrations and links to the album, if someone is interested: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=171306.0)

Time to open up a beer as it seems that I'm not going to make any progress with any of my projects today, so might just as well drink a couple of beers and continue watching Critical Role.

over the course of the rest of the night proceeded to drink double that amount in water (many trips to the bathroom were involved). By the time I lay down to get some sleep I was basically just sober again, a stark contrast to everyone else. Needless to say, there was no hangover the morning after.

This is pretty much the norm when I drink beer, but I still get a horrible hangover if I guzzle more than 2 liters of beer. If I don't drink loads water during the night (and have to run to the toilet many times) the hangover next day is just unbearable and I find myself at the same time wishing for death and being afraid that I'll die of hangover. And of course the usual promises that I'll never drink this much again if I survive (after a couple of days these promises are naturally forgotten and drinking beer was totally worth the hangover). :)

Thinking should I drink some beers also today as yesterday I only managed to get a bit tipsy and not drunk. Guess my hangovers are so bad nowadays that I try to avoid getting completely trashed when drinking, hmm... :-\

Creative Projects / Here I unleash some of my music & art projects
« on: July 08, 2018, 05:22:03 am »
So, some time ago I decided to try and see if I can still track some music after a hiatus of approximately ten years. As a result I made an album just for fun and never got to spread it further than my circle of friends.

The tracks are heavily influenced by old computer/video game soundtracks from the 80s/90s (especially Monkey Island 1 & 2) and therefore chiptune was the way to go for me. Other sources of inspiration were crappy fantasy films from the same era, pen-and-paper RPGs and Dwarf Fortress had it's own place to play in the creative process. In addition to the music I drew some illustrations to accompany the tracks and hopefully tell some kind of a story as a whole.

Here's a link to the Youtube video (includes all of the artwork):

And here's the artwork (if you'd rather just check them and not listen to the music 8)):

Just popped a beer open and I think I'll watch some Critical Role this time.

It's a neat system, but some tweaking I think is in order. I've seen a few dwarves now completely change their attitudes on life because they got rained on once.
You should have made more bad things happen to override his puny rain stress.
One of my dwarves is "impervious to the effects of stress, after being caught in the rain."

I can live with that.

Another one "would just as soon have nature and the great outdoors burned to ashes and converted into a great mining pit" because of the same reason.

That's excellent, but what am I looking at in the second picture ? The girl's look on her face is priceless tho
Oh, yeah, that probably needs some explaining. Long story short: I made a poster for a couple of friends yearly party and at the previous party some drunken guys had decided to have a wrestling match naked. So it's a reference to that. :)

And nice work with your comic. Likeing the forest background a lot.

So, now my legendary cook decided to a bit overdo a lavish meal and made a yak's milk roast worth 2198393 dwarf bucks.
