I don't exactly remember how I discovered Dwarf Fortress, but I have a vague memory of googling for some ASCII rogue-likes that are still being developed (this was around 2012 or something). In the 80's/90's I had played Moria/Angband/ADOM/etc. quite a lot and had some kind of nostalgic urge to play something similar when I stumbled upon DF and immediately thought "this is exactly what I've been looking for my whole life."

if you feel like coloring it, go ahead, be my guest. I might have a higher resolution scan of the picture on my computer, but am not completely sure if I managed to save it with other stuff after my old computer dropped dead (I do have the original somewhere with my other papers, though).

Please stop taking a bath in the rapidly flowing river. I hope the two years you spent clinging to the cliff, before my dwarves came to the rescue, served as a lesson that it's generally not a good idea to fling yourself down a waterfall.
