I saw in some of the myth generator screenshots mentions of souls. Will it be possible to have a Stormbringer-like magical artifact that can kill souls?
Will souls retain any of their qualities or traits from life, if they are reincarnated or sent to another plane?
Speaking of Stormbringer, is there a possibility of sentient or semi-sentient artifacts?

I think souls iirc as it stands now incorporate all the mental data of an intelligent being (Name, mental skills, knowledge, motivations etc.) as seperate Datastructure to the body. There were some experiments where people summoned (DF-Hacked) the soul of gods into usefull idiots willing subjects.
Since gods are bodyless entities and keep theyr data i would say that they do retain data. If a souls skills rust in Limbo is to be seen.
As for souled artefacts ... i think the last word on it was "Planed but no ETA"?

Ha ha, yeah, it's a hard problem, but certainly a simple timed event (like the world being bathed in fire in the year 500) is easy enough to manage.  The harder part is more like conditional prophecies, or the fate of a given character hinging on this or that nebulous state.

I dont see that as a problem per se. As with false prophecies and changing fate you could just say a prophecy was broken / false. If there is a nebolous condition then it should be, for the sake of gameplay and openness, be possible to avert or further the fullfillment of that condition/prophecy. There are numerous examples of Prophecies that are tried to be broken in fantasy already - say Pharaos killing the firstborns of an enslaved religious sect.

2. Right now we have multiple souls supported for creatures (it's just not used), and there's an "active soul" that gets to control everything.  Smearing that out on a limited basis might end up being in the cards, especially as we get into spell effects like "possession" etc.  Hard to say exactly what though.

This is only a TECHNICAL question (cause recent modding topics) and not because of Politics or whatever: Is the Gender of a being defined within the soul or is it defined by the bodies sex? In Fantasy there allready Genderbender scenarios - for example loki turning into female being. Also the orinetation is stored in the soul right? Would a fem soul in a Male body have bad thoughts?

I am 30 and am here for about 10 years now. I found DF back in November 2007 and joined the forums as "Heph" in January 2008.

Shit a 1/3rd of my life got better because of Toady and the people i have found here. Even the love of my life.

In that time i had education and about 7 Jobs, some mayor breakdowns, transition, my niece was born as was the little girl that could be my daughter.
I still know how i fared in the early days, dorfs starvin and dying of thirst while i tried to figure out the Z-level controlls. Well now 10k dorfs later i thinkn i got the starvin part figured out.

My life is less bleak because of DF and the community around it. So thank you toady and thank you people :3

On the topic of the new worldgen system in the works: are certain creatures in the game slated to be removed in order to better suit this system? I understand that mundane creatures like cats and dogs will probably be kept so that completely mundane worlds can be more easily created, but what of creatures like gorlaks, satyrs, etc? Will they be replaced with randomized creatures when fantasy worlds are created, or will they remain to some extent?

I realy dont see the need to remove them. With plants it was different since you had a few generic placeholders but with gorlaks and such its a different thing. They are original creations and having non-mundane non stereotypical critters as Stock-options is in my mind good.

You can still have all te random things you like after all.

It would still be better to have some engravings and the ability to ask directions.

I wonder how easy that would be. You could always look up the mapdata and plot routes but would that be the shortest route or the intended route? Would the engravings have to be created on the fly when you enter a fortress / deep-fort or can they be precreated? (which i guess they could be if forts safe layouts like cities)

Markerstones around streetcorners would be nice or painted signs but that would need new decorations code right?

Iirc atleast treetoes story "Root" goes into detail somewhat about the outside appereance of the Animal people i think there was another one with a rhino person?

Anyway i think the representation so far are good but the prefstrings could be a bit clearer ... not that it changes much.

Btw. one of the oldest Animal people depictions is the so called "Löwenmensch" carved from mamoth-ivory and estimated to be 35 to 40 Thousand years old.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One could also argue that many middleeuropean Fables are "furry" for depicting humans in human like behaviour and posses. Sadly "puss in boots" is the only one most northamericans seem to know.

I went with Heph for many years even so far that the nickname made it in the raws (with Eggs! Not the Animaldrive but the density of egg-whites and yolk XD).

In 2015 then i came out as transgender after longish agonizing about my Genderidentity I adopted Melanie as my new name. Since i deamed "Heph" to be my old me i needed a new nickname and went with "Mel_Vixen" instead. I think both parts of the name are obviousish ;) . Toady was even kind enought to change it for me in the forumsoftware.

I have my clear definition of a man and woman

[sarcasm]And damnit they can vote now too![/sarcasm]

Naturally there are some difference due to the way our biology acts but our bilogy doesnt decide everything. Much less things then mariage. Human evolution has geared us towards polyarmouros relationships, eating primarely vegies and walking long distances every day.

Nothing of that applies today for good or worse. And largely religious motivated genderroles dont apply either. I dont care what some idiot said 6k to 7k years ago. Heck even formal mariage wasnt invented by christians but was a legal contract to regulate inheritance at first.

The thing is though you can adhere to your ideas of Gender on your own. That is freedom. Telling other people that they have to adhere to your ideas of Gender - that is oppression.
We dont fight for special rights or some such, eventualy it all comes down that we fight to be treated equaly in all regards before the law and in society. It doesnt mean that girls get lower standarts and such but a opportunity to compete at the same standart as everyone else.

I do believe in Feminism when it fights for equality, i believe in mans rights if its for equality. I believe in anyones rights as long they are grounded in equality and fairness.
What i refuse to believe is that this powerfull notion, that everyone on this beautiful planet is equal in rights and value, can be hindered by people that claim the priviledge to dicate what is "normal", "Acceptable" based on race, sex, gender, age, place of birth and so on.

Ah, I meant as in, I still have to pay for it if the therapist thinks its harmful, but parents arent involved. Gender reassignment surgery also isnt an option in new zealand, so i'm gonna have to go overseas for that. There's not too much paperwork though, fortunately.

I'm starting fairly early, but I'm a fair bit through puberty, so my voice is a bit low and I have a kindof masculine bone structure.

Its all in flux and a good therapist will listen to your wishes and give you hormones sooner then later. Having a little lower voice works fine with a bit of logopedic training. Regarding bonestructure: big girls are sexy too ;) and the hips can still grow in.
Even with the face its less an issue if you arent extremely male because the tissue above the bones will give you a nice female face eventualy.

What you will need (i consider this general advice to young MTF transgender) is new pants because even without growth of your hips you will develop some more butt. And if you go with silicon-breasts "falsies" take A-cups cause you can use the bras later when the real things grow out. .

Do you get lasering of beards paid as well?

Lets not foget XXY people or people where the Y chromosome or the testosteron receptors are turned off (and variations i forgot). They are either on a spectrum between male and female "norm" or just outwardly appear female while being male on the phisical plane of genetics.

28
If you start the HRT early its quite easy to develop very normalish compared to born girls. The Testoblockers will keep your body androgynous for now and the hormones later kickstart your development including wider hips if you are lucky. You shouldnt expect anything above a B-cup though yet again an early strt gives you far better chances.

Here we get free breast and gender-re-assignemt and HRT if deemed necessary by the therapist and the paperworks are done. The later wasnt the case with me so i had to pay my first batch of hormones.

Postapocalyptic huh? How about "AI" cores that are bolted to the reactores which tell the people how to build them NEW bodies.

Its addictive too. There is a mounting "pressure" to hurt oneself which is similarly to "withdrawal symptoms" atleast mentally - well thats what i was told by some people who do cut.

The thing is getting help is an always an option with mental illnes. Depression, anxiety and such are treatable, without being admited to a closed mental facility. Its very common for people to have such problems and you dont need to be ashamed of it.

Getting a Psychiatrist and a Therapist is easy and can improve life considerbly.
