A simple succession style game. Sign up by commenting. Each player has a week to play a year in-game.

No atomsmashing enemies, but other than that.. Anything goes.

As for the embark, it's fairly easy, but shouldn't be boring. We border Elves, Humans, and Goblins, with a Necromancer Tower nearby. The site is a canyon with a small river running through it. It is Untamed Wilds - so Savage Neutral - with lots of resources. There's no particular challenge to the embark.. But it's a Noob Fortress.

Essentially, this is a chance for anyone who wants to try out a succession game - like me - to do so, without any quirks that make entry hard. I'll do my turn in about a week, or sooner if people sign up fast.

DF Gameplay Questions / Noble Issues
« on: July 29, 2018, 08:21:46 pm »
On my most recent fortress, I embarked as part of a dying Dwarven civilization. It had one remaining hillock, and everything else was conquered by some neighboring Elves. I started sending my squad of 3 swordsdwarves on raids to neighboring Elven Hillocks.. And then they came back wrong from one of them. On return from a pillage, one was promoted to a Baroness of the hillock I raided. Another naturally became the Baron consort.. And the third became the General of my civilization. What are the implications of having a baron of a hillock - belonging to an enemy civilization - in mine? Is it just another noble to make rooms for?

Beautiful. You should replicate this in Fortress Mode by packing a room with ravens and sending tribute in the form of unarmed, novice military Dwarves. And then you can release the Swarm in troublesome sectors of the fortress.

I found that telling stories (or spreading rumours) of me killing the former lord tends to cement my claim.  Eventually they all exchange rumours of the event.  Unfortunately the hatred never seems to stop, which is unfortunate.  It's one of the things I think is kind of screwed up in adventure mode.  There don't seem to be pockets of discontent with the current ruling government.  Either they like the government or they don't care one way or another.  Insurrections seem to be weird as well.  The very few times I've been able to witness an insurrection, I couldn't tell what was going on.  I've never been able to instigate an insurrection either.  But I'm kind of hoping that some of this stuff will be sorted out with the villain arc.  We'll see, I guess...
The very first thing that my character did was put down an insurrection. I spawned as a Hearthperson, and almost immediately, a group of 7 or so bards started randomly attacking people, including my lord. Confused the hell out of me at first, but I decided that I should just kill the people attacking my lord.

With my first adventurer - a swordsman - I took a crossbowman and a pikeman to a bandit camp. I would sneak up and attack them invisibly and then we'd kill them. The first two died really easily. Both of them tried to yield, except when I demanded items from the first one, he said "Over my dead body!" I didn't bother asking the second. The leader, however, was something more than human. My opening strike was a heavy slash to the throat, which mangled the tissue and harmed his spinal cord.. My crossbowman shot his hand, shattering his wrist and making him drop his weapon. The pikeman stabbed his leg, and he fell over. While he was on the ground, I stabbed his upper body. My sword pierced his heart and opened a major artery. I then bit out both of his eyes and his tongue - each one taking several bites - until he bled to death. Throughout this, the crossbowman and pikeman were still attacking him. Meaning, this dude had his heart torn open, his neck mangled, his leg broken, his wrist shattered.. And he still took a long time to die. Oh, he never lost consciousness. Throughout this all he kept trying and failing to bite my legs.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Kinks in Landclaiming

I was asking around in a town to see if there were any things to do nearby. They told me that the Lord of some hamlet far to the North was going to attack them.. I decided to stop this. I proclaimed myself lord in a conversation with him. He didn't really respond in any meaningful way, so I killed him to cement my status. I then killed all of his loyalist soldiers, except for the last: he yielded, and I decided to accept his yield.. After he became a hearthperson. I had him follow me around for a bit, but he kept spitting on me because I - his lord - had killed his former lord. To see how my reign was viewed, I asked like 10 different people questions about the current ruler.. On the last two, I noticed something funny. I always introduced myself before asking questions - so they knew who I was, and I them. These last two replied - when asked about the strength of my group - that it was very strong, but that I was considered part of the resistance. So now I'm the Lord of a hamlet, and my only soldier absolutely hates me, and I'm the main rebel against my own reign. What kind of crazy fun things have y'all done with landclaiming?
