DF General Discussion / Re: Incredibly badass demon...
« on: February 14, 2012, 02:34:44 pm »
Thats not feeding, it's an attack of a civ on another.
With the demon defending, slaying every single one of the attackers. Or most of them in any case.

BADASS!

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Hostile pathing
« on: February 14, 2012, 02:21:07 pm »
They won't path through 7/7 water.
Well, maybe they would if they had swimming above dabbling.

If said door is forbidden, they won't go near it at all until a building destroyer (ie troll) has taken it out.

Nothing stops you from locking them in a section using doors, to then fill it up with water and drown them.

here's the one i found before.
That one doesn't actually say what sort of creature Ener Flaxexit is. My guess based on these two datapoints is that "vampire" is a suffix that gets attached to the description of what sort of creature they are, not a prefix that gets attached to their name. So if someone becomes a vampire, and that someone is referred to only by name then nothing changes, but if they are referred to by creature type then they become "creature type vampire".
Ener is a male human, not a "male human vampire" upon closer examination.
The rodent woman vampire was born(? possibly :D) a vampire rodent in 62, and lived the way of a vampire in the years before being cursed. Murdering people, being found out and moving etc.

Still - maybe the curse is not equal to vampirism.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Lack of adamantine.
« on: February 14, 2012, 01:42:22 pm »
I've been searching for adamantine for a while and can't seem to find it anywhere on my map, is this normal?

While I understand adamantine isn't a necessity, it's still a nice thing to have.
What do you mean by "anywhere on your map"?

Did you dig all the way down and stripmine the lowest floor you could reach?

There's supposed to be adamantine; at least 1 vein per 3x3 embark if i recall correctly.

I'm not getting this problem at all in a large 200 year world.

I've found a couple cities spanning several embark squares, but i dont have nearly enough sites to fill up everything. Not even close.

Maybe its a problem for medium regions and smaller; i've noticed my large world barely has more historical figs than the medium one i genned before. For 4 times the space.
That, or maybe sites are being abandoned due to closer proximity of civs, more wars from that - but never cleared up or retaken, instead making more sites.

I'm fairly sure that this is a result of the system retroactively rewriting history so that the creature is listed as having always been a vampire. So when the vampire was cursed for blood it was actually being turned into a vampire, it's just that after it became a vampire it was no longer listed in the legends as a "rodent woman" but a "rodent woman vampire", making it seem that a vampire was cursed to be a vampire. This could probably still go into the bug tracker though, even if it is just for future reference.
i already mentioned this probably is not the case...

here's the one i found before.
Of course it's still possible that weird historical figures like animal people who probably only show up AFTER something happened to them work in the way you described.

on a sidenote: the other guy onmo cursed was some sort of leader at a site, which he then profaned, subsequently being cursed by onmo.
AWESOME! :)
Also, he is now 198 years old. not sure if worldgen humans are immortal (born in 2nd year, not founding member). Otherwise curses grant immortality. (possibly shouldnt, for shapeshifters?)

232
Not sure if this is to go into the bug tracker.

I was browsing legends checking out gods, after i randomly found out they are now involved in the world by smiting blasphemous historical figures with curses.
Well.

A vampire X is being cursed to "prowl the night in search of blood"?
a) it immediatly applies the vampire tag! - nope, i found other entries of this without vampire prefix.
b) this curse is not vampirism but something like going berserk every night
c) a vampire is cursed with vampirism

if c, i guess it should go to the tracker; demanding that vampiric historical figures are restricted to curses that actually change their current lifestyle. Vampire going were-giant eagle every full moon, anyone? :)
Anyone here with more insight than me?

Exam tomorrow.

Sometimes setting priorities is tough :D

Thanks Toady for all the work and gl everybody, hope it runs well alrdy!

edit: genning a world: wow, thats a lot of historical figures alive.
15000 alive after 100 years, with 10000 dead.
edit2: df.exe stopped working during gen.
edit3: reduced genning time to 200 years, worked fine.
probably was just my win7 getting suspicious of DF taking so long to finish its task.

"create world with parameters".

More space b4 1st caverns,
open caverns,
some arbitrary number of years around 250.
Tons of minerals (not that it helps getting magnetite and coal, from my experience most spawns still try to talk me into using their copper and silver ores)

probably fiddled with oceans a bit, but can't remember what i did. Hate oceans, waste of space :D

Poisons of paralyze are great too, and easy to make
I have some poisons, what do i do with them?
I'd rather not "use" them, i have a feeling it will make me drink em .)

Ended up beating the game with its own glitchiness. Ran up a corridor and shut a door made of bars. Apparently shock spells can travel through this while fire and arrows can't.
Then dropped down a shaft and faced down another deathlord. This one refused to walk 2 steps to the left, thus trapping himself on the side of the stone i stood on, happily roasting him.

Kinda sad really, at the moment i feel like most enemies have ridiculous amounts of health for my dwarven sword (skill 50) and 8dmg/sec destruction spells (30-ish).
At the same time they chop my 180hp up in 2-8(with shield) hits.
There's a fine line between difficult and "cheating" enemies.

i guess spreading my skills out wasn't the best idea for this instalment of TES.

now i'm lv18 and faced with my first draugr deathlord... bastard comes with a bow :)
1 shot bypassing my shield leaves me with 5% hp. In melee range i can hold my own for a bit - but after a taking a few hits he simply shouts and i drop my weapon in some awefully dark place where i have a hard time even finding the damned thing.
Managed to distract him for a moment by summoning familiars and running away.

Looks like i'd better go focus on some skill tree or other, so i have some way to survive and kill these buggers.

How are you guys managing weight?
I've just forged dwarven armor, and i'm constantly within 10-30u (whatever :S units it be!) of my limit.

Should i just go and sell all everything except for hp/mp/sta restores and a basic set of melee/ranged weapons until i can get my own house set up somewhere?
