ok, next question: how do you make sure you have a good mix?

Didn't see any additional options, other than "load troops at nearest"
You can garrison troops at the colony through the troop menu to prevent ships from picking them up. Garrison a good chunk of all unit types so there's a desired mix of units being loaded on board. I'm honestly not sure how the game decides what troops to pick up when told to load the ships.

If you're invading a colony and meet an insane level of resistance (like on homeworlds with fifteen+ billion people), sometimes it's worth it to kill a few people or five billion with nuclear bombardment to lower their strength enough so you can invade with a reasonable army. I keep a few ships armed with nuclear devastators for just such an occasion.

That sounds like a sufficiently dwarven solution. I'll just glass the next bastards giving too much resistence.

the armored units by themselves don't generate that bonus?

Or do they take up more space per attack and you should mix them in because of that?

You do want a mix of ground troops, having the +25% Armored Assault Bonus on your Troop strength is very nice. It's downright necessary later into the game when some planets have up to 2k of troop strength defending.
Sorry, you lost me there.

I have to MIX troops to get the armored assault bonus? I'd have thought sending in armored units (what was that, the 2nd tier guys you get? the ones you build a factory for?) would give the bonus by itself

Is it just me, or does construction speed barely do anything for your race?

I tried the Ackdarians in my last game, thinking i could overrun my nearest neighbour, but simply ran into crippling ressource shortages. What's worse, the shortages blocked my construction, so civilians could order less/nothing and i ran into debt.

Any way to really devour your neighbours in a rapid expansion early start?
If building up your empire for a couple of years is generally superior, aren't research and/or reproduction focused races way ahead once fighting becomes viable?

Welp.

I bought Distant Worlds years ago. Saw potential, but didn't get into it. Didn't seem like much of a game to me, either, more of a simulator.
Also, i don't really like grand strategy. I like the idea, but try as i might, i never found my way into it.

Decided to try my luck on this again with the Universe Edition.
Worth.

Funny how these guys managed to make a complicated game better by adding stuff.
Somehow they didn't make a complicated game into a complicated, bloated abomination, but a grander, better rounded and more accessible version of its former self.

this was included in a humble bundle some time ago.

Played the arena mode for a long time, but eventually got frustrated with various chip damage from the screenwide bombs etc killing me

It's not THAT site you should worry about, you should question the integrity of the sites it links you to.
DLcompare doesn't sell anything itself...

Read carefully what is offered, try to find ratings for the shops.

i had no issues with: g2a, elitekeys.

Use your head, just like you do whereever else you go online without swamping your pc with shit and buying every fake product you see on offer.
And buy stuff while you can, western shops are still trying to figure out how they can stop this effectively.

Wow, lots of changes since i last played this.

How much damage does a battlesphere do, exactly? For some reason, there's no mention of it in the wiki...

Why are my water buffalos starving to death while standing on grass? (not pastured, they can freely roam and eat whatever they want)

I'm just sitting here, watching over Dakost Nomalduthal as she engraves our provisional dining hall.

It appears dwarven history has been rather dull. One half of the engravings is general, the other is various humans being smashed by minotaurs and giants :)

For what it's worth, my D2 discs are the original 1.0 release and they still work on win7. I don't remember having to jump through many hoops, but I *might* have had to do some chicanery like ripping ISO's of them to install or something. It's been some time since I last installed.

if you have a disc version and there's ANY trouble, you can always register your key with blizzard and get the download version.
Downgrading that to the desired patch is a little extra work, but nothing you can't do if you can change DF tilesets.
