) or dig out only one level? As you dig deeper, your dwaves would prefer to go down/up 2,3... more z-levels "straight" in case the tiles in the middle of the stockpile are not filled up *sigh*
DF Gameplay Questions / pathfinding/distance to items
« on: February 01, 2008, 07:15:00 am »Distance does not consider the effectively walked way?
This would explain why my dwarves keep running about for most of the day, not really doing anything...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Balancing military
« on: January 31, 2008, 09:09:00 pm »My 2 squads went up to their stations behind the fortifications... goblins shot first, hit some and the rest refused to move or do anything at all while their comrades bled or suffocated to death. All the while standing around, being nailed by arrows from outside. i guess carving out less fortifications would be one first step to improve
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Stay inside, please.
« on: January 31, 2008, 05:23:00 am »When i used "soldiers can go outside", all other dwarves immediatly cancelled what they were doing, telling me that the area is forbidden to them. No waste disposal, no constructions, no refuse-hauling, no mad "grab the items of that smashed goblin"-runs.
Try that

i guess it depends on zones, as in "heavily forested", "woodlands"...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Decoration - Limits?
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:52:00 am »I've got 5 hunting dogs + some hunters and fishers that get me loads of meat, bones, skulls, skins, shells... might actually reduce that pack, as i usually buy any foodstuff the caravans bring. Dont see any use in the other items they carry with them, except wood and barrels to speed up storage and production.
It will take some time for them to add leather and other decorations, as i've just started adding these in and let them produce bags, too.

DF Gameplay Questions / Decoration - Limits?
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:25:00 am »Are there any limits, besides the "only one of every bone/stone/shell"-rule?
Will the description eventually start scrolling?
Oh, another question: I've got a LONG list of deceased creatures. Will they eventually disappear?

ye, sure.
create metal bins and make sure the stone stuff gets in them instead of the normal wooden ones?
I hate elves for not taking the stupid barrels.
