Haha, pretty much.
Thanks for the info Forumsdwarf! That is annoying though...
See, I was thinking about stuff, then fell asleep. Then I woke up and went, "Fortifications should give a bonus to blocking arrows to the guy directly behind it because of arrow slits. It's harder to shoot in an arrow slit then it is to shoot out of it." Then I realized you can make arrow slits!
code:
# = wall
* = fortification# #
# #
#*#
There, its now impossible for guys to shoot at your guys unless they are directly across from the slit!
So, if you have a bridge, you can put those right above the bridge, and only people ON the bridge can hit them, so your marksdwarves can't be owned by huge amounts of arrows from all directions; they would HAVE to be in the chokepoint.
You can also make them diagonally, so you can have a line of fortifications that can only be shot at, and shoot from a certain point!
code:
# ###
## ##
###*#
Very exciting!
Anyway, my OTHER idea was that you have a barracks at your main entrance, so if there is an attack there are a lot of guys there.
code:
- = Path to fortress
. = Cover (I'll explain)
* = fortification or some sort of see through wall
B = barracks room (Extends downwards)
# = wall
D = door##########
-.--------
##........
#*D*D*D*D
#BBBBBBBB
So, the dwarves in the barracks can look out and see the enemy. They would then charge them, of course.
Now, Cover is some sort of barrier that arrows CAN'T go through, people can see through, and people can move through. That way, the mellee fighters in the barracks can get up to the enemy before any arrows can be fired at them.
Now, I was thinking that slopes somehow might be the solution... but I don't know. Whats the easiest way to make this Cover idea thing I had?
