DF General Discussion / Re: New Core items! -> Poem Gen

Its very fun to play with that generator.
With small customisation i got

ELEPHANTS KILL!
THE TRAP RUNS LIKE A DUSTY AXE.
TRADER SHOULDN'T ROUGHLY LOVE A DEMON.
ALL DEMONS GRAB EVIL, DARK WORKSHOPS.
WHY DOES THE WORKSHOP BURN?

Even traps flee at the sight of an elephant!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Abandoned fortresses.

Has anyone tried to get stuck in a cage trap in the latest version?

I had an idea to create a fortress in human town, abandon, get adventurer stuck in a cage trap, retire, have other adventurer carry the cage to better fort location and then establish fortress on that location and have my own adventurer in a cage in fortress mode.

But for some reason I couldn't see or trigger the trap
I have changed the optin in init file to [ADVENTURER_TRAPS:YES]

Wouldn't it be nice to have death pit filled with your own bloodthirsty adventurers?

And when you retire an adventurer do they disappear or wander around the town?

I had a similar problem on one of my first forts but i was able to figure out the problem myself.
One of my dwarves had died due to his injuries while resting in the barracks and my dwarves just left the corpse rotting in the bed and even slept in the same bed as the corpse.
They didn't move it until I built a coffin and marked it to be used for burial.
I had a refuse stockpile but no graveyard stockpile.

Are you sure your dwarves are hauling the corpses to the bedroom and that they didn't just die there?
If you are sure, maybe the dead dwarfs children are trying to use some dark magics/alchemy or something to bring their dead parent back to life  :p

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: A Vile Force of Darkness Has Arrived!

My first goblin siege completely surprised me.
It came right after a Bronze Colossus stepped on my cage trap.
I had only 1 cage trap and 1 weapon trap set and only 2 elite marksdwarves and 2 hammerdwarves. I thought that first siege couldn't possibly be more than 10 goblins. But i was wrong.

code:
###########
.........M#
.#========#
H#.........
.D.........
H#.........
.#========#
.........M#
###########

M: Marksdwarf
H: Hammerdwarf
. : floor
=: fortifications
#: Wall
D: Door
I positioned my troops like shown and waited for the goblins to arrive.
But then just before first goblins entered the hallway my other marksdwarf decided to have a snack and other went back to barracks for a nap leaving my two other soldiers and few wardogs the only defenders of my fortress. I really thought that waiting behind a door for the goblins would spare my dwarves from their arrows and bolts but when the goblins came near, my soldiers charged out of the door right into the hail of arrows. Somehow they still managed to repel the invasion although both of the Hammerdwarves got killed and only 1 wardog survived.

But the worst came only after that the next season arrived my second gobling siege. It was twice the size of the first with TROLLS. I really thought i was done for but still tried to do my best to defend my fortress. I had no time to train any new dogs or soldiers i only had 5 novice wrestlers and the 2 marksdwarves I positioned the troops the same way as before and waited. This time marksdwarves stayed on their positions and killed 10 first goblins and after that...
All other goblins started to retreat! I was completely baffled. I had succesfully thwarted my second siege and the only casualty on my side was my hunter sleeping in the bushes when the siege came.
Goblins are cowards!

Just after a goblin ambush my fisherdwarf threw a tantrum and killed my herbalist against whom e had a grudge
It could be just a coincidence though

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: My latest few woes.

1) It seems to work if you order construction of a wall to the "wrong" side of the fortification and immidietly suspend it. Dwarves seem to avoid building from the square occupied by the suspended wall.

2) If you order item to be dumped it cant be moved except by the dwarf with Dump item task. If the item in the way of any construction is not target of any task it will be automatically moved out of the way. If there is a target of a task in the way the building will be suspended and must be manually unsuspended

3) At least for me walls suspended due to goblin siege were built after I unsuspended them. You might have dumped or blocked access to the building material of the wall in question.
