New animals? Seen that. Guns? Old news. Supermonsters? Boring. Secret powers, freezing ray? Meh.

What I would like to see, is a complete new and fresh idea, something never done. It might be simple and small, or even insignificent. As long as it has a unique in-game effect.

Be creative, think out of the box, mix up every thing you can think of with all sorts of mechanics. Ethics, reactions, syndromes, interactions, materials: you name it.

Here are the rules:
1. It has to be new.
2. It has to be visible and work in-game.
3. It needs to use a combination of mechanics, giving it an unique effect.
4. (Edit) You must add the raws, so it can be tested.

Bonuspoints for adding convincing lore or graphics.

After 5 submissions I'll do mine.

DF Modding / Can I somehow add or remove body parts or tissue based on AGE?
« on: November 21, 2022, 03:02:08 pm »
As far as I know, only color change is possible for tissue. I want to have older males have larger tusks. Is this possible?

DF Modding / Is there any way to make a CREATURE spawn a PLANT?
« on: November 21, 2022, 04:21:22 am »
What I want: I'd like to use specific plant-properties in combination with my livestock, but autonomous / 'unmanaged'. Precisely: The growth falling down at a specific time of the year. So something like, that the creature plants the plant themself.

Is there a syndrome / interaction / material / itemproperty, creatureproperty, that causes a specific plant to grow? Maybe 'negative grazing'?

I know there are multiple ways to spawn creatures, but those do not have the properties I need.

This does not work: An interaction to drop a seed. Because the seed would not grow if not planted in a farm
this does not work: planting the seed in a farm: because it is not autonomous
this does not work: spawn it with an interaction as an item or creature, because they are not plants, and do not have growth that falls down.

I know my last resort: modding all regular grass and mos, to do the thing invisible, but I want to avoid modding vanilla stuff as much as possible

DF Modding / How can i make a creature interact with an item?
« on: November 17, 2022, 04:54:09 pm »
Is there a way to make a creature interact with an item?
for example:
a dog gnawing a bone,
an ape playing drums

i mean: in fortress mode.

DF Gameplay Questions / worshipping megabeasts
« on: June 14, 2022, 03:42:27 am »
I've read in de devblog, that dwarfs may worship megabeasts and even start new religions. Is this already in the current version or is this a new feature? How does it work? Which creatures can be worshipped? Are they worshipped as a creature of as a species? Is there some interaction between the worshipped entity and its followers? What happens to its religion when the thing is killed?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Proof needed: can you become a king?
« on: April 04, 2022, 02:29:47 am »
Hello brave adventurers!

Here's a challenge for you.
In the other topic there's some debate wheter you can or cannot become a king.
so my question to your all, is : can you prove that this is possible?

And with king, I mean a king of a dwarven civ in a unmodded game. Beside that, anything goes.
It would be interesing, if you can become leader of another civ, like humans or elves.

Hi all,

I'm creating an artificial cavern with moss and all. I use guiding rivers to irrigate my cave floors. When moss and fungus have grown, I use furniture to remove the mud while keeping the vegetation.
However thats not working for ramps.

I can not build furniture on ramps
When i remove the ramp, it also removes the vegetation.

Any ideas?

So. Just wondering.
I hope there is a way to somehow re-combinethe two.

Situation: someone dies. After a while: his ghost rises, due to not being remembered. Also, a necromancer in "mortal fear" raises the deads persons body as a Damned One, or somehow as an intelligent undead.
Is there some kind of special interaction, any kind, between the two parts of the former united entity?

I'm imagining how I would react if I was a ghost, seeing my own dead body reanimated.. :-( Ew..

I'm running a fotress with magnetite-ore, beside some sea. When it was winter, i digged town in the water, to get to one of the magnetite's clusters. I used a single up-down stair. At the bottom, i carved a upward staircase in the ice. after clearing out the cluster, I surrounded the remaining ice at the bottom with wood, to prevent the sea from filling up the space.

Now, winter is gone and the ice has melted. When I checked my diggingspot, I spotted a Pile of Salt at this spot! very strange! Does anyone knows what I can do with it? can I generate more? Is it a bug?

I did some research on royal inheritence in the dwarven culture, and I discovered something what might be actually true. It seems that more than often, one of the youngest descendants becomes king of queen after the monarch dies. This is not always the case, but many times it is.
When its not, i tried to find out what might invalidate this child of inheriting the throne. Sometimes it is because they are to young, or that they are part of another civilisation. But sometimes, I can not see, what causes the dwarves to pick an older child as heir.

Has anyone an idea? it doesnt seem random to me. Does anyone know if Toady said anything about inheritance?

I can see that there might me a technical reason to choose younger kings: it keeps them longer on the throne, so it might somehow be good for performance.
Let me know what you think! do some research yourself, I'am very curious what you might find out!

By the way, I had an instance in which a coup was done by one of the descendant of the first Queen Solon. To be honest, I think he had some legitimacy to back his claim :-) I didnt even traced all this lineage back, but here's what I did found out:
Solon, Melbin, Zan, Shorast, Morul, Limul, Ustuth
Solon, Erib, Geshud, Stakud, Shorast, Morul, Limul, Ustuth
Solon, Erib, Onol, Zefon, Shorast, Zon, Atis, Rovoth, Kib, Degel, Limul, Ustuth

Say I create a fortress. Then I make a non-dwarven adventurer, from a non-dwarven civ. I go to my fortress, and talk my way in, taking control over the site. Then I retire, and unretire the fortress.

Will the owning-civilization of this fortress have changed?
Can I make my fortress part of a non-dwarven civ?
If so, what side effects does it have, regarding for example the civ-Ruler, diplomats, immigrants, wars and traders?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No moss in cavern beneath mountain?
« on: August 29, 2020, 02:08:13 pm »
I just reached the first cavern, hoping for moss to let my sheep graze, but nothing! Just muddy floors. Its in a mountain biome, can that be the cause?

Hi all,

What would be the effect of having a steel-weapons-producing-focussed fortress, and selling it all to my own civ?

Would my civ in general get more access to steel weapons? Will steel weapons be more available to my fellow civvers?

And the most important question: Will this make my civ perform better in wars with other civs?

Does the availability of certain goods have any effect on war performance? If not, what will?

45
He keeps saying: You should try a shopkeeper. I'm visiting my old fortress to see if I can buy some of the goods. I prefer not to steal. But the broker is broken en wont trade!
What are the requerements for a broker in one's retired fortress to be willing to trade?
