DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Aggressive Logs?

A weaponsmith of mine was hauling wood when I received an alert that he cancelled this task because he was unconscious. I checked reports and it said, "The birch logs strikes the weaponsmith in the right upper leg, and the injured part is crushed!" Is this a bug, or do logs actually fall when they're chopped from a tree, and the weaponsmith was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Either way, pretty funny that it thinks of this interaction as combat.

I recently got my first Forgotten Beast attack in a while (a huge three-eyed pterosaur with a square shell for anyone interested), and some strange things occurred.

I immediately set my squads onto attacking it, which they did, after a lengthy descent into the caves. Things were going as expected (a dwarf died, but military mostly held its own) but after about a minute I noticed that everyone stopped moving, forgotten beast and dwarves. After pausing and looking around a bit, I found that I was being spammed with thousands upon thousands of alerts telling me that members of my military (only three specific names though) were cancelling the "pickup equipment" task because they couldn't find a path.

I'm not talking announcement spam like when you run out of barrels, I got 50 pages of announcements in the span of like 30 seconds. The game might just be slowing down, and that's why no one is moving, but I have no clue how to address the problem. Interestingly, the dwarves (actually one dwarf and two goblins) are being called by their civilian titles (i.e. dancer, poet) instead of their military titles. I'll try restarting the game, but not sure if that'll do any good (regardless, it'd be nice if it didn't happen again).

Is this a known bug, or is this some strange anomaly?

DF Gameplay Questions / Choosing Specific Fish to Clean

I have a strange mood pending which only requires shells (I know I should have already had shells I just forgot to make a fishery beforehand). But my dwarves simply will not clean any mussels (of which I have many) and insist on cleaning salmon! Is there any way to choose a specific fish, or type of fish to clean. I tried forbidding other fish in the z-stocks menu, but I could not see any specific fish; I guess that's because my bookkeeper is not precise enough. Any help would be much appreciated.

Please save my dwarf, thanks.

Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Armok Vision not Working

I recently downloaded armok vision and it said to download dwarf fortress and dfhack but I'm pretty sure I have both of those. I use PyLNP; would that mess it up?

My hunters just aren't returning their kills, I tried dumping the corpse but nobody dumped it. My butchers also can't butcher it because it is too far away. I need that leather! Any suggestions?

So I've been playing DF for a while, on and off, and without fail, every fortress I've made so far has gotten fairly big and then gotten utterly demolished by some wandering werecreature. Every time I make a fortress, I think to myself "This time I won't get killed by a werebeast; I have a foolproof defense all thought out!" But every single time something goes wrong. I've tried making a pillar with floors on top to make it collapse on the beast but it didnt work for some reason. Ive also tried making a moat with drawbridges but my dwarves were too slow to pull the lever. How do i protect my poor, poor dwarves from this gruesome fate?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarf Corpse in River

So one of my fishery workers recently drowned. I have absolutely no idea how, if he was trying to get across, there's a bridge, right next to my fishing zone. But now his corpse is stuck in the river, and I have no way of getting it out. Which is a problem, because I have never encountered a ghost and I wouldn't like to.
Any tips?

DF Gameplay Questions / Assigning War Dogs to Dwarves

I recently had a few weavers get stuck in webs and I have a few questions:

1: How can I get them out... I would prefer if they didn't starve or get devoured by giant spiders.

2: How do I give them some form of defense? I read on the wiki that you can assign them war dogs but that feature seems to have been removed?http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Assign_animal

Anyone have any ideas?

DF Gameplay Questions / Useless Captures

I recently broke into the cavern layer and began (after a few catastrophes involving cave crocodiles and chickens) making traps. The first trap a monster would need to pass to get to my fortress is a cage trap, so after a little while I began catching things, first a helmet snake, then a toad, then a troll. So the snake and the toad are all good, I can just tame them so that's all fine and dandy, but what about the troll, I don't know of any good uses for them, and what the best way to dispose of this nuisance would be. Any suggestions?

DF Gameplay Questions / Assigning Cabinets

I have never been able to assign a cabinet to a noble. I can assign nobles armor stands, weapon racks, etc., but for some reason it won't let me assign cabinets. I press "q", put my cursor over the cabinet, and hit "r", then I press "a" for assign, and I choose my sheriff, but then it just doesn't show that the room is assigned to the sheriff. I assume I'm just making a dumb mistake, but if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, please let me know.

DF Gameplay Questions / Visitor stuck in moat.

I recently started a new fort and started to build. I made some farms, workshops, a tavern, and so on. After a while I decided it was time to make a moat. I have never made a successful moat before, and I am not sure if I am using the right method. What I have been doing is making a channel leading from a river and then building a bridge. So I began my moat and before long, the channels were complete. I don't know how this happened, but after a little longer, I noticed that there was a bard, just sitting in my moat. The ramps from digging the channels are still there, so I would think he would be able to make his way out, but he just sat there... for a long time. The water level is at 6 where he is. So I don't know what the problem is, or if there would be any consequences if he drowned or starved. But, I realized, this could happen to an actual important dwarf, and that would not be good. So any help would be much appreciated.
