I like the basic idea. Maybe it'd be better to designate Water as a washing area, though? That way dwarves can just take them selves there when on break and wash themselves and thier clothing/equipment.

I am just imaging my thirty military dwarves fighting a battle and being covered in blood, and then going and jumping into the river, causing them all to drown or be ripped to pieces by the ferocious carp which reside there.

Ok, so I was really imagining that we'd use interior pools for this, not carp-infested waters. It's a pretty simple engineering project dig a channel, install a grate to keep out big fish, and then channel out the last square to let the water flow in.

I like MMad's suggestion. Once it's designated to be built, run a check and say "This workshop would be inaccessible" or something.

My usual way of solving this problem is to make my workshop rooms at least 4x4, and putting the workshop in the corner away from the door. That way there is always a way in and out. As well as some small stockpile space in the room for highly desirable materials.

I think those are excellent points.

Best thing to do would be to get a Unified Hauling thread going, starting with what you posted there. Then we just have to have the vote link to that thread, which becomes the forum for all hauling related suggestions.

Once the fire arc is in, maybe have an option to HEAT a pool with buckets of hot water.

Also, once dwarves wear more then one set of clothing, we could have dwarves with cleaning assigned take bags of dirty clothing and go wash them.

Sounds like a perfectly good noble, to me. Grates not being high on my list of exported items...

Well, it's nice that we have at least a few girls playing. If they make suggestions, maybe this game won't end up being a testosterone fueled killfest.

Not that it isn't already.

We should have fluffy pink bunnies in game!!!! Bunnies that devour the souls of dwarves!

In my experience, female gamers are more bloodthirsty then the males.

Which is why I had a Lamellar for a medium armor, and a Heavy Lamellar for the not-quite-full-plate version.

My hoboblins are somewhat like evil samurai, which is why I modded that in.

Well, my most recent picky smith was in 40d. Since he went insane, I'm not 100% sure about what it is he wanted. I do know that I had every type of glass, bones, tons of shells, lots of metal bars, and that he didn't even want cloth.

Nope, have to completely disagree with you on this one.  I've SEEN them wait for just the right metal.

I had a weaponsmith go into a mood. He's stilling around screaming that he wants metal bars, of which I have quite a few. Including some steel bars that I'd LOVE if he used. Look into his profile, he likes Copper. I don't have any copper bars, but I have some copper ore I can smelt. I do that, he then runs over, grabs the copper, and makes an artifact copper scimitar. Not Steel...bastard. But least I got a legendary weaponsmith out of it.

Always look at their preferences when this happens. For example, I recently had a legendary metalsmith go insane because I didn't have the EXACT metal he was looking for. And it was an alloy I couldn't make with what I had, and didn't show up no the caravan. Sad. I was drowning in just about everything else he wanted too, including most other metals.

One reason I always try to have all of the 'base' metals around so I can make whatever alloys they need.
