Play With Your Buddies / Shadow Empire PBEM round 2: game on
« on: September 22, 2022, 04:59:44 pm »
So as per prior discussion, there was some interest in another go at SE PBEM.

First off, let's be clear that this is a terrible idea and we'll all come to regret it.

Having said that, Il Palazzo and I are dumb enough to do this, and we can accommodate up to two more fools players, as the limit appears to be 4 humans. I'm inclined to give first crack to Salmeuk, Karlito, and EuchreJack, as they all expressed some degree of interest. Once we get our players, we'll need to decide on rules; IP and I have some ideas, but we'll need to get full buy-in from all participants.

As per the subject:

Per their press, MuHa Games is working on a faithful modernization of MoM, due out next year and published by Slitherine. I'm guardedly optimistic - the screenies make the UI look pleasant, and the art direction is nice enough - better than Thea, to be sure, though reminiscent of it as well. The opening video animation - a beat-for-beat remake of the old intro video animation - is awful and tacky, but then so was the old one.

Curses / New location idea: ROTC office
« on: May 18, 2009, 02:52:55 pm »
Had a thought whilst reading some related debate on a poliblog. If we have a military spending issue, it would be possible to add a site to affect it w/o inducing the headaches of an army/NG base. Add an ROTC office to the University District. Not only would this not entail balance issues in re: access to military hardware, attacking the ROTC is most definitely a stereotypical liberal activity. If we ever get to the point of having affiliated sleeper orgs, we could have them do protests and teach-ins, but until then it'd give the LCS a place to vandalize and kidnap suggestible Soldiers, Cadets, and College Students. Assuming, of course, their Liberalism isn't broken down the point of enlistment by the shouted slogans of the Arch-Conservative Recruitment Officers...

DF Gameplay Questions / Wells and freezing
« on: April 27, 2008, 06:13:00 pm »
So my current fort is in its 3rd dehydration dieoff, and every time it's followed the same pattern. The booze runs out (yes, I know, this is the real problem), then every last member of the fort huddles around my wells, and slowly dies of thirst. All of them. This seems... odd. I would think if it's a matter of scarcity of water from the well, at least the last one or two would survive, but no, they all die. So I'm wondering if my wells are working properly.

Sideview:

code:
#...l...#
DDDD~DDDD

# = wall (ice)
D = damp stone (aquifer)
~ = water (channel)
. = floor (dug out from ice)
l = well

Does the fact that the well is on a freezing level perchance mean something awful like the water is freezing as soon as it gets pulled out of the well so no one can drink it? Do I need to move the wells down a level on the next reclaim?

DF Bug Reports / [38c] [reclaim] Cannot interact with reclaimed items
« on: April 27, 2008, 04:14:00 pm »
This appears related to [561]/[568], but is different in that at least some of the items in question were not involved in any job, trade, or construction.

After losing and reclaiming, I reclaimed all items on the map and set about getting to work again. I quickly lost again. I reclaimed again. I reclaimed all items on the map; however, this time a large number of objects on the map could not be interacted with after they were reclaimed. This included most furniture in the furniture stockpile, a portion of the random clothing and goods scattered about the map, and also some mined-out gems in a dining room (most stone on the map was successfully reclaimed, though there is also a random piece of ice that was "perturbed". Some of the goods may have had "move to stockpile" tasks associated with them before the last fort failed, but the gems definitely were involved in no tasks (i.e., no gem stockpile existed at the time, nor were any cutting tasks ever assigned).

Save available, albeit perhaps 1-2 years after reclaiming.
