Still another patch, although I was fine without it.

My suspicion is that it's an "any-hit-kills" percentage, so you still get the roll vs. HP, but the result of the hit will automatically kill X% of the time. To the best of my understanding, the hit type determination will occur as normal (so kill/retreat/pin according to mechanisms the manual fails to explain) and then if it's not a kill, you roll against any such kill percentages to see if it converts to a kill.

I do, but since it's what I normally play with, it was what got updated with the patch, and the Matrix version doesn't have its old beta patch versions available unless they're hiding someplace other than the beta thread on the forum that I don't know about.

OTOH, there's a fix patch out so it doesn't matter, and I'll slog through the turn shortly.

But lemme ask a WTH question similar to yours about my infantry HP. What does the freakish mutant commander of the 8th Dreadburghers (apparently one Marius Bonoux) look like? Before I crashed, an attack I launched on them showed him giving a OHQ bonus to his troops of ~600%. I've rarely if ever seen bonuses over 200%.

No dice rolling back; I have no way to do so. And I'd need to, because playing any stratagems throws errors and locks the game. This appears to be a widespread problem, so I'm not reporting it; others have already done so. None-the-less, I'm gonna need to wait for a patch...

[Ugh, gave in and loaded up the save to see how bad the first turn of war was before going AFK. Had the game lock up on me when opening the stratagem interface. If that doesn't resolve itself when I have time to mess with things properly, there may be a longer delay than anticipated. I'll know tonight or tomorrow...]

Well, the "Major AIs not selling enough" should drive down trader prices and demand even further down than it already is. Also, I'm very happy to see the bug I reported getting fixed, although it may have come right after my 2SHQ finally got its logistics network to a point where it's no longer a severe problem.

[As a Usaian, gonna have limited screentime for the next three days due to holidays, so heads-up on that, especially given how long turns are taking.]

I gotta say, this naming convention really confuses me. THIS is a Diet Burgher?

Not a Loaded Burgher? Deluxe, Supreme? Not even a Heavy Burgher?

We never shall understand the private sector...

I'm seeing the subunits of the 2nd MG Infantry Brigade (down by the Three Nations Memorial Mountainpeak) all named 21st-25th Audit Support Battalion.

Well, I'm not exactly thinking that those two fresh infantry corps are gonna do me any favors, especially with all the other combined-arms OOB units you raised to support them. Seeing 150k standard infantry alone under arms is ugly, NGL.

I do salute your embrace of more civilized customs by organizing an Audit Support Brigade in the Olfario Ruins zone, though.

[Also, just to be clear: what happened to the Cephaloids in Apelar this turn is a tit-for-tat response for your sneaky-cheeky coastal incursion into the Tobaro reservation.]

Dunno about SAMs since those are defensive and thus not readily able to be used in a way that lets you see combat details. But all the rest are definitely mechanized for the purpose of postures. I'd assume SAMs are too since all the other things are, but it's just as possible they aren't affected by postures since they don't participate in ground combat.

I feel slightly dense for never doing the simple math to work this out before, but...

782/477 = 1.64
782 = 477 * 1.64

Thus:

Unit HP = Armor Strength * Armor Design %

Likewise:

Soft Attack (attacking) = (Fire Power * Weapon Design %)/2
Soft Attack (defending) = Fire Power * Weapon Design %

Hard Attack (attacking) = (Fire Power * Weapon Design %)/4 * (100 + AP bonus) %
Hard Attack (defending) = (Fire Power * Weapon Design %)/2 * (100 + AP bonus) %

I had mine fall 0.95 on turn 81 despite increasing my BP that turn. It went back up the next turn. IDK, perhaps the tooltip isn't reflecting how it's currently calculated.

OTOH, it may have fallen and not gone back up b/c it wasn't supposed to be 11? Manual p211 says max is 10.

I'm just not sure how much the initial profession matters here.

FWIW, my impression has always been that in addition to direct specializations, your career makes you more inclined to spend points on a set of skills besides just your specialty. See forex my former Econ director; most of those skills were learned in the 69 turns she spent doing Econ tasks:

What's your scientist director specialized in? Mine is Science. I can't remember if careers only ever specialize in one skill; it seems like there's a small selection they can get per career. Though looking over my director, she must have started with a pretty high Science, b/c she's only improved it twice for +1 each time (w/one failed +1 attempt). She's Int 39, Lvl 40 with a Protocol Android for a total of 101, FWIW.

Oh, another (possibly insultingly obvious) thing: have you kept yours happy all game? Relation will make a pretty big difference WRT their bonus.

Can you be more specific? I discovered a handful of military techs from the AI under one of my cities that I'm currently scared to talk to again (it's how I got Battledress w/o Walkers, and how I learned about Beam Guns w/o Laser Guns, even though unlike you I decided to go ahead and learn LG before diving into BG), and I didn't discover both Charged Gauss & Gas Weps until pretty late (Gas just this turn) so I could skip them.

Here's a question you might not want to answer, since I can't tell from my periodic spy reports: do you have all your councils active, or have you been doing Applied/Air research through your Mil council? I ask b/c while I'd never to do that myself, those aforementioned spy reports have been really confusing some turns, where I just couldn't figure out what your Mil council was studying unless it was doing something linear. If you are doing that, you may be losing more than you gain by concentrating your BP due to the penalties for concentrating BP. Alternately, I suppose you may have been pausing research to force specific discoveries before opening a new field, which is something I managed to avoid doing this game; that's probably also helped my progress.

The related question would be how much of your budget is going to Mil, and how Mil divides its discovery and research. I've been at around 15-20% to Mil all game, and ramped up to my current 30/70 split fairly quickly (I doubt it was ever below 40/60 after the first 10 turns, and it may have gone straight to 33/67 TBH).

O/w, I'd point out that I've pretty consistently had a fairly large Research Bonus even if it's not as obscene as yours; right now I have 65% for Econ/Applied/Air and 82% for Military (although TBH this might also apply to some Applied and all Air; IDK), and I'm fairly sure my BP production has dwarfed yours all game (the +40% BP and occasional Bureaucratic Push stratagems from Gov have certainly helped). You're catching up on Bureaucracy, but you put more emphasis on industry for a lot of the game. It's possible that higher gov't directly affects BP output or application w/o really talking about it; there are some subtle effects that aren't well documented like how Meritocracy impacts recruited leader Capability (though I wanna say Gov leans more towards impacting tax tolerance than BP output, but there's enough black box mechanics I'm not sure).

It probably also has helped that my starting (Cap IV) Military director's career is scientist. I made the mistake of putting a Cap III/Int 43 tank commander in charge of my Econ council on turn 4, and while she did more-or-less okay for a long time, she spend so much time improving her military skills I cracked 7 turns ago and switched her back to an OHQ so I could replace her with a Cap IV trader. The trader has already gone from 0 (okay, technically 16) Science to half what her predecessor had after 72 turns in that role. Her Invention is a lot worse than her predecessor's was, but I've only got 2 more Econ discoveries I can make, so it's not that big of a deal.
