Ouch, looks like losing ISCP's support is gonna bite us.

Sure, but it wouldn't be as thematic.

Let's split the difference and go with vaporized magma.

Soulwynd: the other alternative would be for the management to hand out Q1 gifts to all workers every day they work. This might actually be more cost-effective, albeit more work for them, as Q2 food + Q1 gift costs less than Q3 food (currently 2.15 THB vs. 2.88 THB).

Alas, lockpicking, being essentially risk-free, no longer gives juice in the latest build.

They should be in Humvees, really. Which is something we'd need to have in a non-military form if we ever introduce Suburbanite as an archetype... ;)

Rody, I didn't want to get into this in public, but:

You need to try to be more tactful. We claim to be less mindlessly loyal and nasty than TNT*, not to mention more thoughtful and willing to address the issues, and for the most part our rank-and-file hold to this. However, you are often cheerfully content to jump into a thread with no more apparent goal than to cast aspersions on others without contributing anything of substance. Jack's recent thread, which had generally been a non-partisan discussion heavy on substance and wholly lacking mudslinging, is a fine example. The length and breadth of your contribution was "and when we start a discussion a dog from TNT will bite us, but hopefully this discussion wont have any mudslinging ".  As was distastefully noted by Jack, your contribution did nothing but lower the tone of discussion.

You're perhaps the most active TRP member in terms of comment thread participation. This makes you more than most the face of TRP in the public eye. Unfortunately, you tend to take the low road and contribute less discussion and more unsupported partisanship and mudslinging... and for crying out loud, grammar flaming. EThailand probably has a majority of its population who are not native anglophones; there's no reason to attack them on this account. It's tacky. It's rude. It. Just. Looks. Bad.

The overarching point is simply this: if you're going to be the most public face of TRP, and lecture TNT on their vapidity, rudeness, and mindless partisanship... it might behoove you to try a bit harder to avoid giving them ammunition to accuse us of hypocrisy, divisiveness, nattering, and flaming.

[e]*This was, ya know, my motivation in bringing up the fact that the fix isn't in on Luis for the next TRP party elections; I was of the opinion that a new member with good ideas and initiative can join TRP and aspire to a leadership role without having to waste time kicking their heels to artificially "pay their dues" just for the sake of stroking the egos of the older members. Do you dispute this assumption on my part?

Congressional self-nomination: here.

You miss the point, though. As had been previously discussed, we young turks want some guarantee that we'll see equal representation with the old guard in the congress. Hence, we'd like some assurance of this in advance in the form of a formalized slate (i.e., an ordered list of who will be given a seat for up to however many seats we get) giving equal precedence to members of both factions... in order to help erase said factions' very existences. You know, that whole reaching-out-to-erase-divides thing.

Also, Luis needs to get out there and campaign. Even if only in Portuguese, but better by far in English, broken or otherwise. Rockman is vulnerable, but there's no alternative being offered up. Jack Roberts just posted a nice article that subtly undermines the current regime's policies while asking for a vision for the future. This is a great opportunity to pile on and roundly criticize TNT's neoliberal policies and lack of direction... and the context allows for it to be done in a relatively apolitical, high-handed manner, as long as it's done with tact.

Yes... but the next general elections are probably not going to be v1. V1 hits sometime between 01/10 an 15/10. Unless it hits on 01/10, we have one more old-style congressional election... and thus we need to prepare a candidate slate.

Umm... so... are we going to see an active election campaign out of TRP? As it stands, we have Rockman on the run, adopting the by half-measures protectionist policies that a week ago he was renouncing as destructive and stupid... but we don't have an alternative leader presenting themself.

I suppose I can type up another broadside, but as I'm not the presidential candidate, it'll be less forceful... especially since I'm not certain Luis shares my vision 100%, as I still don't actually know what his platform is, even though the general election is in 4 days...

Also: what's our congressional slate?

Thailand's massive carp population, or its population of massive carp? (Yeah, yeah, I know we've all seen it.)

What countries do we border right now? I can't find anything indicating who we're adjacent to, and I'm curious whether our neighbors are likely to be in need or want of our resources come v1.

Ah, a nice, damning report. Let's get that voted up into prominent display!

And weewt, it is a fine dank hole, with all craftthaiship of the highest quality, menacing with lovely spikes of miasma!

Beorn:

I'd say go for it. But as you may have noticed, I'm showing depressingly little restraint myself, so I'm not sure you want to emulate me...

ATM we have 5 of the 27 seats. I'm not sure if the recent increase in Thai population means there will be more seats, though. We shall see. In any case, under the current system we'll take more seats this time by pure numbers.

Next election should still be in the current style... unless v1 hits on the 1st, in which case congressional elections will presumably be postponed to 25/10. So unless we get v1 on the 1st, we just need to throw together a ranked list of candidates, as big as we want, for now. Come Oct. 25th, we'll have to get ugly and allocate voters to candidates, but we have over a month to work that out.
