DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Deadly Dust
« on: July 26, 2010, 09:22:14 am »
Thanks for the help guys. I will name dwarf in my new cannon fodder squad after all of you. I think I am going to go with Sphalerite’s advice. I will chain an animal under a section of cavern held up by a support and try to drop it on Mr. Coral’s head. I will keep you posted.

DF Gameplay Questions / Deadly Dust

So I have a problem.  Life was good in my fort, everyone was drunk and the goblin ambushes that came every so often were driven off by my well equipped military.  Then, a forgotten beast arrived. The beast was a giant humanoid made of coral with deadly dust. I laughed as I sent my whole military to deal with Mr. Coral. What kind of monster uses dust? I had missed the memo about deadly dust allowing the monster to explode repeatedly.  He detonated and wrecked my whole military in one blow.  It not only poisoned all of them but sent them flying into in random directions. I managed to wall the beast up in his level of the cavern while he was occupied with exploding my military over and over again.  He completely wiped out my well trained troops in one blow and I don’t think sniping him with bolts will be particularly effective because of his coral skin and his ability to fly.  Is there any way to get some dwarfy revenge against this fine coraly gentleman?

I decided that my next fortress should be on a haunted jungle. So I started generating medium worlds in hopes that I would get one. I made like 8 and had no luck getting ANY jungle squares. I have had a regular jungle fort before but it was when I made a full size world. The problem is that making a full size world takes like 45 mins on my PC. I think its the human villages thats slowing the whole thing down. Is there anyway I can mod the humans so they don't build so many villages? Any help would be appreciated.

Your artwork made me cackle like a madman. Hard thing to accomplish before I have had caffeine. I will try the mod out.

Hello, I have a question about goblins using animals during sieges. Is it possible to make them bring along other animals besides beakdogs and trolls? I looked on the wiki and the only thing I have come up with is the USE_EVIL_ANIMALS tag. But the wiki says this wont affect fortress mode. Thanks for the help in advance.

Thats a pretty epic death. You should give him a platinum coffin. That, or let him rot in the rubbish heap. I'm not sure which is more fitting.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Questions: No-econ, and noble-killing
« on: March 19, 2008, 07:45:00 pm »
I have two methods for you. The first is build a cage with some horrible untamed creature in the Nobel's room and link it to a lever. Then, you put a cage trap up in the exit of the room. When the noble goes to sleep lock his door and pull the lever. There are few things in life funnier than a Hammerer being bitten in the face by a snake man wile sleeping. The second method requires that you shrink there bedroom size to 1x1 square. Then you build a ballista with the point pressed right up against the bed. Load it and wait till the are milling around in there 1x1 room and give them the hard goodbye. It seems to be easier to hit them when they are not sleeping though, at least to my experience. The funny part is its usualy the impact with a wall that kills them.

Should hit 50 my next wave. I will let you know the results. I don't think I will back it up though. I will release him him from his cage in my barracks. If he wants to do something impolite its a +bronze Warhammer+ to the brain for him.

The river clean out did not go quite like I expected. I capture or killed the *men. Then, Stabby McKillpants, my only marksdwarf, bravely drowned after dodging into the water. Then the Cave croc went on a psychopathic rampage killing two dogs and three puppys. He wandered into a cage trap when he had had his fill of dogmeat. He does not have a name but he has killed a pet, is he still tamable? I read storys about "tame" dragons that have killed dwarves still being hostile after taming.

cool, I just got two of the snakemen in cage traps. Unfortunately, they dont seem to be tamable. Going to try to trap the rest now and set up a pit of doom for goblin captives.

DF Gameplay Questions / My first Underground River
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:35:00 pm »
Just ran into my first underground river and don't know the best way to go about using it. It has 5 snakemen, 2 frogmen, 3 olmen, and a cave crocodile. As soon as i checked out my unit list I envisioned a tame cave croc on a chain murdering kobolds. I checked the wiki and it says the animals in the river were immune to traps in 38a. I have the newest version, are the still immune? If so, whats the best way to clear the creatures out.
