I didn't start playing until 38a and whenever I hear about this stuff from old versions it blows my mind how much has been removed.

Well, sometimes they can put a barrel/bin and a rock on the same tile, maybe there were just some barrels there you didn't see.

Yeah, often you can just see the rock, and can only find the barrel when you 'k' over it.

Wow ... I must be too nice to my animals then, I've never seen it happen before.

I don't know if it can happen to your animals, but merchants and their animals go insane/melancholy/berserk if they're prevented from leaving the map for a certain length of time.

To follow up on the above, corpses won't get butchered unless there's a refuse stockpile accepting corpses (with the appropriate hauling options turned on as above), or a hunter returns the kill to the butcher shop.

Yeah.  Specifically I would try putting a high minimum on rivers, turning off cliff erosion, and maybe messing with the elevation settings.

Why would you make them into blocks?  Bars can be stored very efficiently in bins.  To use the metal in the blocks for making other items, you'll have to melt them, which only gives you like 33% of the original metal.

Methinks this is probably related to the way carp and other non-fishable fishies are lethal to dwarves - either they get pulled into the water, or they dodge into it (and there's just no way back out).

Or charge at a target in the water, which might be what happened here.

Slings are cool and should go in.  Not sure about using the Throwing skill, though.  Maybe a separate Slinger skill, plus using the planned skill synergy stuff to give a bonus based on Throwing?

Also, I think there should be special ammo, as historically precedented.  When possible, slingers used specially shaped bullets rather than any old smooth rock.  In DF, masons could make rock shot, and weaponsmiths could make metal shot.  The kiln could also be used to make clay shot, but that should probably wait for the introduction of pottery.

Also, slings can be made out of plant fiber as well as leather, so the full range of cloth/leather should probably be allowed.

This has happened to me several times as an adventurer -- during travel on the world map, I'll get ambushed and find myself at the bottom of a dried-up pool.  The ambush never actually happens since the ambushing creature can't get down into the pool, and I can't get out of the pool either.

Fortunately it's not game-breaking since I can just travel again.

Targeted punishments like smashed hands or whatever would be cool.  I'm not sure targeted attacks are even possible in the game at the moment, though.  (aside from wrestling)
