I think the game would have to be scaled down to fit on a DS (no pun intended).

- maximum 100 dwarves.
- 3x3 playing area.
- stactic "small" overworld.
- simplified clothing and armour. Only one layer for each part: head, torso, arms and legs.
- simplified temperature system. Frozen, cold, normal, hot, boiling.
- simplified weather system.

All that, running on an optimized platform, should work more or less fine on something like a DS.

One 67 MHz processor for 3D, one 33 MHz for 2D, 4 MB of RAM.

It is never, ever going to happen.  A handheld console is probably the worst platform possible for a game like DF.

what so these lakes which, by the way, must have existed for years, suddenly dry up when I get near? am I really that ugly?

I think it's because the game does temperature calculations more carefully in fortress mode.  They'll refill from rain in the next version, though.

Fortunately this is already listed as a bug:

So hopefully there's a fix coming sometime.

I REALLY like the ideas about stone.  Managing what stone types get used for various tasks is a gigantic pain right now.  Ideally these changes would subsume the current "economic stone" interface.

The kitchen idea is good too, processing tasks should be more specific.

Yeah.  I've got a bunch of "Elite Wrestlers" who first became wrestling grand masters but later became legendary swordsdwarves.
