Plaguetile updated. Things liable to change lots of new stuff.

I have a few notes and observations about the update for you.

First off, I really enjoy most of the new graphic tiles you created, they are looking nice and sharp and the gradients are wonderful. As for the letters and numbers, I personally feel they could use some more work. I am finding them a little too rough around the edges and they look somewhat warped. I am finding it especially difficult to distinguish the lowercase "L" from the uppercase "I", and the lowercase "F" and "T" are somewhat difficult to read as well.

As for the dwarf tiles, they look very well polished which is nice, but I would have to say I was growing quite fond of the ones from the previous release. Those were the only non-bearded characters that I actually liked the look of, and I am somewhat disappointed to see them go. Also, I am not too sure what I think about the bogeyman tile. I have not had the chance to see it in game yet but it looks kind of like a shield doesn't it? Perhaps make the eyes and mouth a little more prominent?

Anyway, that was my two cents. I hope the feedback is helpful.

New tileset and colorscheme combo I'm calling the plague set.

The new tileset and colorscheme look fantastic, I think I may have found my new favorite! Thank you; please keep up the great work.

Awesome, that is very cool of you! Thank you for doing that,  I am going to test out the tileset now.  :)

Yes they are almost the same except, I like the way the dwarfs look better in the 10x10, with the beards rather than a plain smiley face.

EDIT: You are also missing a few characters in 16x16 tileset; the 1/2 symbol and the 1/4 symbol.

Any chance of you making a 16x16 tileset that looks like the 10x10 one you made? I would really love to see that happen.

Is this bug fixed in the 40d11 release or is it something I will need to remedy while playing?

This sound like something worthwhile to me. I say put it out there. It can't hurt.

Just started playing D for half an hour. Oh well. Can I copy the init from D and be fine playing E?

Should work fine. That is what I did.

My god, Toady! Another release already? You're a mad man! Thank you for all the hard work you put into this.

Just need to find a good way to capture my progress. If anyone has suggestions for how to take snapshots of the whole map I'm on I'd love to hear them cause doing it one screen shot at a time would be just about as crazy as the overall project
That's easy. Just hit escape and select "Export Local Image". Then all you have to do is select the the z-levels you want screens of and then take the picture. They will be very large images and take up a considerable amount of room. I would suggest checking out the DF Map Archive.  Download SL's DF Map Compressor and post your maps on the archive. It is very simple to do and saves you a lot of space.

This looks like quite an undertaking. Good luck with the project, I look forward to seeing images of of your progress.

DF General Discussion / Re: Tweaking default colors
« on: July 20, 2008, 07:25:08 pm »
So, the new version came out and for some reason only now I realised that the default Dwarf Fortress colors suck. That's because these are the same colors that Windows XP console colors uses by default. Back in 2006 I posted a fix for this on rec.games.roguelike.misc:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.roguelike.misc/browse_thread/thread/f0237b82d80b7911/dca78ebec84a78b2

But wait, Dwarf Fortress doesn't use Windows XP console! Fortunately we can change the colors in init.txt:

[BLACK_R:0]
[BLACK_G:0]
[BLACK_B:0]
[BLUE_R:0]
[BLUE_G:0]
[BLUE_B:153]
[GREEN_R:0]
[GREEN_G:153]
[GREEN_B:0]
[CYAN_R:0]
[CYAN_G:153]
[CYAN_B:153]
[RED_R:153]
[RED_G:0]
[RED_B:0]
[MAGENTA_R:153]
[MAGENTA_G:0]
[MAGENTA_B:153]
[BROWN_R:192]
[BROWN_G:102]
[BROWN_B:0]
[LGRAY_R:192]
[LGRAY_G:192]
[LGRAY_B:192]
[DGRAY_R:102]
[DGRAY_G:102]
[DGRAY_B:102]
[LBLUE_R:51]
[LBLUE_G:51]
[LBLUE_B:255]
[LGREEN_R:51]
[LGREEN_G:255]
[LGREEN_B:51]
[LCYAN_R:0]
[LCYAN_G:255]
[LCYAN_B:255]
[LRED_R:255]
[LRED_G:51]
[LRED_B:51]
[LMAGENTA_R:255]
[LMAGENTA_G:0]
[LMAGENTA_B:255]
[YELLOW_R:255]
[YELLOW_G:255]
[YELLOW_B:0]
[WHITE_R:255]
[WHITE_G:255]
[WHITE_B:255]

I'm not sure about brown - it can't be too dark, and it shouldn't clash with dark red. This one looks more like orange than anything, but the intro movie looks really sweet.
Did you make this scheme yourself or is it one of the ones from the wiki. If it is from the wiki, which scheme is it? If it is not from the wiki, would you be able to put up a screen cap displaying the scheme so I can see what it looks like?

Err... I don't get how to use the map-creator-thingy.

Mind elaborating? Or posting a link to a wiki-article/thread?
Here are some links about world generation.

Noone deletes threads here I guess (exception can be made for flamewars/swearing threads).
I just wanted to remind you that feature, some users don't know about the ability to rename your own thread.
Good call; thank you. I was not aware of that feature. A lot of the other boards I am signed up with do not allow renaming.
