Yeah but we still end up stuffing votes into ballot boxes. Frankly if there's a will to commit voter fraud it'll probably happen. Russia also has universal healthcare, does that mean a country implementing universal healthcare is going down the same path as Russia?

Hitler ate candy, does it mean that everyone who eats candy is a Nazi?

Why was this moved? Is a game in the works? *excited noises*
Liberal Crime Squad! ;)

Populism then =/= populism (and specifically right-wing populism) now. I normally hate the "ideologies change" argument but it's true when ~2500 years have passed.

I use Google docs for writing. :'(
Look on the bright side: maybe Google's dataminers will enjoy your writing.
They'd have scraped it from Royal Road anyways or something. Not that I care or that it affects me.
Shout out to yandex the torrential oracle. In my last big catch I was able to turn my VR headset from mostly just a screen into a fully fledged gaming console. Thanks russian scene.
Ah yes a fellow 🏴‍☠️

If you're still using Google Search (or really any Google service at all) in A.D. MMXXIV, it was probably already over for you before it started.

I still get ads in Spanish from when I watched the Spanish broadcast of the World Cup a few years ago.
I'm in Russia but very Westernized so I get a mix of Russian and English-language ads.

I don't think AI will replace humans for several more decades given the cost of the AI, especially since they're saying better AI need even more money to make then the current ones.
Ok, I'm going to add you to the category of people that "get it".
Am I in that category? 🥺

Royal road advertisements are fascinating.
ikr, "graphic design is my passion" vibes from many of them (aside from the ones that are random LitRPG memes I guess. I don't get LitRPGs).
But hey, at least they're memorable which is the purpose of an ad!

The ending of my hard sci-fi space opera is released! The finale of a lengthy and harrowing journey. More than 3 times longer than the usual chapters are; I wanted to wrap everything up neatly. Most of it is the intense final space battle. What happens after? Might not be what you expect!

Thank you for reading!

Next up I'll fix my first book... the first book is very, very janky, needs a bit of editing. The quality in Marathon is more consistent.

I didn't see any decent places to split it at.

I'm finishing up the ending to Stardust Marathon!

This feels at once... nervous but at the same time very liberating because I can do anything and not worry about writing myself into a corner.
Ch.31 is done, and the epilogue is mostly done... all I have to do is edit the last chapter which is around 8k words.

At first I thought it was weird to have the final chapter be so big but first off I didn't want to risk messing up the ending, and second of all, well, TV shows often have feature-length episodes as finales, so why not books with long chapters?

General Discussion / Re: Israel-Gaza/Palestine war thread

Seems like every time I leave this forum for the weekend this thread blows up into a massive shit fest of arguing.
ikr, I've been abstaining from discussing this conflict (everywhere, not just on Bay12, though overall I mostly support Palestine) but I still read this thread out of morbid curiosity.

What? No, emotions don’t require comprehension at all. Emotions are more akin to mental reflexes - they are shortcuts to promote certain responses often specifically when there is a notable lack of comprehension.

That’s why emotion is often contrasted with logic.
By comprehension I mean understanding something as a situation to react to rather than literally just picking the next most likely token.

13
I can say for 100% certain that LLMs do not have emotions. Emotions need comprehension, not blindly responding to anything that has been given as a prompt.

Emotions aren't evolutionary baggage, they are tools evolution uses to change our behavior without messing with our logic.
I'm... pretty sure this isn't just wrong, but staggeringly, incredibly wrong? Plenty of our neurological structures and reactions (including but far from limited to emotional responses) are just... actively maladaptive, and as far as we're aware were even in our earlier years, just in ways that weren't sufficiently intense to meaningfully influence evolutionary pressures. They'll cheerfully screw with logic and everything else 'cause evolution doesn't actually give a damn (to the extent a process gives a damn about anything) about anything like that. They're not tools, they're accidents that didn't kill enough of us people stopped getting born with them, ha.

In any case, they're 110% evolutionary baggage in a lot of situations. Our neurology piggybacks that shit on top of all sorts of things that are completely unrelated to how the responses likely developed originally, and often in ways that are incredibly (sometimes literally lethally, especially over longer periods given how persistent stress strips years from our lifespans) unhelpful 'cause it's a goddamn mess like that. See basically everything about our anxiety and stress responses outside of actually life threatening situations, heh.
A lot of people don't seem to get that evolution of the human body is actually very, very, very unoptimized.

I am starting to get a strong feeling that AIs are the new dot.com. A useful technology that is overhyped and will bankrupt many people.
What I, Euchre, and KT were saying since this whole thing started. The bubble will pop and blow over in due time, we'll benefit from what good there is in it while most of the excesses get... sidelined.

I just lost my respect for the fucking cancer police.

A female friend of me was touched in places she did not want to be touched by a random.
She went to the police to report it.
Police asked her... ' Did you drink alcohol'?
She said, yeah, I had a couple of beers but not that much.

'I am sorry but then we cannot help you'

Fucking cancer assholes. Basically what they said to her comes down to 'if a woman drank alcohol, you can do with her whatever you like'.

I hope they die of a horrible disease. Cancer, aids, it's all good as long as they suffer.

We supplied the girl with a tazer and pepper spray. Both highly illegal, but fuck that. If the police won't do their job it's up to us to protect ourselves.
I was very confused and then I remembered that in Dutch, disease names are swear words.

I remember how Russians were celebrating when Americans left Afghanistan and I was facepalming understanding that it means that Islamism will spread into "stans" of Central Asia and Muslim regions of Russia. This attack looks like the first visible result of that.

And yep I believe that it is a genuine Islamist attack, it is their style.
The Taliban hates ISIS though. They're genuinely at each other's throats.
