DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Just me, or has the morale thing been fixed?
« on: February 05, 2020, 05:40:21 am »
Adventure mode is actually quite hostile now. Animal-men often attack and so do bandits, and there are no friendly night trolls, didn't check vampires yet, though.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Aftermath (Turn 2)
« on: February 02, 2020, 11:22:30 pm »
Civilization and magic flourished for thousands of years in this universe, called The Eternal Plane. Multiple species lived in harmony, and even the goblins only led sporadic wars. Even literacy, something rare in previous years, was increasing year by year. The major cities numbered tens of thousands of people.

However, in the year 1000, everything changed.

A secret cabal of necromancers, led by the dwarf Likot Mokezrith has unleashed their army of zombies, collected and assembled over the past century upon the human city of Mirrorwave, capital of the civilization of The Watchful Spike. The city was lightly defended due to most of the army being occupied with fighting off a goblin invasion. The defenders, most of the population, the king, and the high priest were massacred and turned to zombies. The Watchful Spike was thrown into chaos and anarchy as goblins poured into the frontier. Likot Mokezrith's army now numbered in the thousands. He changed his place of residence to the castle at the center of Mirrorwave, and the city was turned into his personal egopolis, with whatever citizens who were not killed or have not escaped to neighboring nations being his servants.

Likot kept rampaging across the world with his massive undead legions, razing and pillaging any settlements across his path. In about 20 years, most civilization has been extinguished. Likot even zombified the dragon Eman Anstridnganiz and it acted as his mount and royal guard.

However, two years after conquering and pillaging the world, Likot faced an untimely demise. A human resistance fighter, Saja Otuaco, coated his own body with green and red dye and bits of rotten flesh to blend in with Likot's zombie armies, snuck behind his throne, and stabbed him in the back of the head, killing Likot instantly. Eman the dragon, suddenly without a master, started rampaging. Saja was stepped on and killed while trying to escape the castle, and Eman killed the remaining living population of Mirrorwave. The rest of Likot's cabal either went into hiding or died prior.

And thus, the world's population was reduced tenfold if not more. Some races' culture was lost and they were driven off into the isolated wilderness. But some governments live on in villages far away from the zombie-infested ruins, or in well-defended forts.

It is now the year 1040. Zombies and bandits still roam the lawless wilderness.

DF General Discussion / Finally it's out!
« on: January 29, 2020, 09:48:22 am »
Now it seems like I can have a massive impact on the world in adventure mode without genocide. As well as better opportunities for RP.

Now to wait a few more updates before a "serious" playthough, because this one might be bug-riddled.

You wake up in a grassland. There are no signs of civilization around. You're not sure how you got here. You feel like you must survive.

There are five trees around you, along with four large rocks (with some smaller rocks around them), and a large pond with a sandy beach around it.

DF Modding / Community Mod Project
« on: October 16, 2019, 07:43:56 am »
A mod created by the community would be great (and a mess, but that's part of the fun).

Rules:
1. All new objects must be in separate files, unless they have a common theme (such as multiple types of guns and ammo for them)
2. All modified objects must be stated as such in the posts that introduce them
3. Don't add things that crash the game or are against forum rules
4. There is no real theme, just add whatever you want

I'll start:

DF Modding / Rapid-fire weapons script?
« on: October 12, 2019, 04:32:04 am »
So I'm trying to mod in a machine gun, and I'm seeing there is no [FIRE_RATE] token. I guess I need a script? I found one, but it doesn't seem to work in adventure mode.
Code: [Select]
local eventful = require 'plugins.eventful'

print("rapidfire enabled")

eventful.onProjItemCheckMovement.rapidfire = function(projectile)
if projectile.distance_flown == 1 then
adjustFireRate(projectile)
end
end

function adjustFireRate(projectile)
local fireRate = nil
if projectile.firer == nil then --if the projectile wasn't shot by somebody, like a flying corpse
return
end
if projectile.item.subtype.id == "ITEM_AMMO_BULLET_LIGHT" then
fireRate = 20
elseif projectile.item.subtype.id == "ITEM_AMMO_BULLET_HEAVY" then
fireRate = 100
end
if fireRate ~= nil and projectile.firer.counters.think_counter > fireRate then
projectile.firer.counters.think_counter = fireRate
end
end

(My other game will get updated soon. Basically, this is a game about the political situation in a small made-up Eastern European country in the early 20th century. Most other countries are also made-up.)

Following the abdication of Grand Prince Dmitriy III, a democratic republic has been set up in Lupriniya. Then there was a war with the nearby Kingdom of Kosnen, resulting in territorial concessions. The political situation remains chaotic...

Players take control of a party with one of the following ideologies:
Authoritarian Socialism: This ideology covers all sorts of far-left authoritarian regimes. It is also known as Communism. There are no "pure" modern examples, but historical ones include the USSR and Mao-era China.

Libertarian Socialism: Also known as left-leaning Anarchism/Syndicalism, this ideology covers far-left regimes where the state has little to no involvement in the affairs of the people or just does not exist. No modern examples, but a historical one is Revolutionary Catalonia.

Social Democracy: This ideology covers left or center-left democratic regimes. There is usually a strong welfare state and other socialist concepts. Examples include Scandinavian countries. CAN BE INITIAL RULING PARTY.

Liberal Democracy: This ideology covers centrist democratic regimes. Personal, political, social and economic freedoms are usually quite high. Examples include many first-world countries, such as the USA. CAN BE INITIAL RULING PARTY.

Authoritarian Democracy: This is one of the broadest "ideologies". It encompasses all sorts of regimes that combine authoritarian and democratic elements, from flawed democracies to military juntas to just plain reactionary governments. Examples include modern Russia, maybe Turkey, and Kirghizia.
`
Anarchism: This encompasses all sorts of ideologies where the state is completely dismantled. It is a very broad concept, however. A historical example would be the Free Territory.

Conservative Democracy: This ideology covers right or center-right democratic regimes where traditional values are upheld and preserved. Examples include Poland and Japan, and many democracies have a conservative party. CAN BE INITIAL RULING PARTY.

Non-ideological dictatorship: This "ideology" covers all sorts of undemocratic, authoritarian regimes, usually but not always right-leaning. Absolute monarchies also usually fall into this category. Examples include Belarus, Kazakhstan, and China.

Ultranationalism: This ideology covers all sorts of right-wing, extremely aggressive, usually-authoritarian regimes. This is a predecessor to certain ideologies like fascism. Examples include Islamic State and the National Bolshevik Party in Russia.

Nobody knows anymore what precisely happened. The creators have apparently unleashed extremely destructive weapons upon the planet twice, the first time a world government formed, the second time the creators were wiped out. Magic had returned at around the time of the second apocalypse. Decades have passed, and the only sentient beings left are magical programs. They live in the remnants of a chat network the creators had created. Magic and hacking had been used to set up an administration system once again. However, it is not global and not infallible. For example, anyone can kill anyone else using magic, if they are strong enough. This resulted in wars and widespread destruction as "Digital Demons" have come into being. A system of Neutral Zones and Peacekeepers, led by a Digital-Demon-turned-good confusingly (re)named PeaceKeeper has been created to protect the Network. Newly-created programs are automatically loaded with this knowledge and directed to Neutral Zone1.

What do you want to call yourself?

This is a game based on modifying a cellular automaton. Player interaction with the world is fairly indirect and large-scale.

DF Community Games & Stories / The Age Of Death
« on: August 05, 2019, 01:33:04 am »
Max, the meta-goddess of foxes and murder, was bored and angry.

"Why don't I take out my anger on one of those worlds I can create? It's not like the inhabitants are alive. Heh... heh... maybe I can completely wipe out all of their pathetic civilizations..."

She removed the goblin civilizations from the fabric of reality for now, as the goblins are too plentiful and cause temporal distortions around their fortresses, slowing down perceived time.

One island had the elves die out, leaving only a single hamlet of humans. She liked killing humans, so she made a new one.

"This is better."

Max has made fox-people human-sized and playable as outsiders.

She decided to give it her all, making this body extremely strong and skillful.

"Heh."

She wasn't in an overly good mood.

She created her equipment.

And, of course, the most important part of her equipment. "Murdersword the Bloody Painful Murder-Sword of Murder".

"Die, die, die, die, die."

She told everyone her name, so people know of her murderous deeds.

She was rampaging through the hillock, most dwarves inside were bisected or beheaded.

And it was over. She allowed some to escape, to spread the word.

"Another one for today."

She decided to lop off the legs of one of her victims.

Somebody decided to fight back.

"Fighting back against ME?! I AM YOUR FATE. YOU WILL NOT STOP ME!"

After some struggling...

She threw the head of the militia commander at another of her victims, mortally wounding it.

"I'm sated... for now. I will come back here tomorrow, and I will keep coming back until I cleanse this world."

This is just murder with an adamantine two-handed sword and occasionally more exotic items. Don't expect much RP here, the main character is literally a self-insert. Feedback is encouraged.

(This is the first game that I GM, one of my friends taught me the ropes so I hopefully don't fail miserably...)

Four city-states have emerged on the planet... each one's resources are starting to run out, and they're eyeing up each other's lands. Science is progressing at an alarming rate.
