General Discussion / Re: Misc. Politics Thread
« on: December 29, 2020, 11:58:17 am »
Russia is dying.

Dying from the corrupt oligarchs, from the conservative politicians, from the inherently reactionary Orthodox Church.

It can only be saved via a coup-- and while liberal democracy can indeed prevent the inevitable rot, it won't make Russia any stronger. God can't save Russia. Only an unflinching dedication to progress of all kinds can. The best future for us lies not in the chanting of the church choir, nor in the march of the soldiers. It lies in the steam towers of nuclear power plants, in the raging flame of rocket engines, in the cold calculations of supercomputers. We need technocracy. Less resources need to be dedicated on preserving our reactionary culture. It brings nothing to the nation, to progress, and can be left to rot like the beaten carcass it is. Nothing else must guide the government besides science and reason.

Exterminate all species of mosquitoes that bite humans, strip-mine asteroids, make sure the tricolor is waving on the Moon and Mars, invest heavily in AI research. Make sure that Russia is on the path to technological singularity and everything that stands in the way is crushed underfoot.

We Mongolians hate communism and, respect Gorbachev for ruining the Ussr and allowing us to abolish the communist regime at home.

As for the second point... my social model isn't nearly good enough to try and model the social dynamics of more than 2 people. Can you explain?
Talking to me?

Why is it that incels/"nice guys"/neckbeards have this tendency to ask a girl out, call them pretty, call them cute, whatever, then when they inevitably get rejected, they start calling them ugly? Since when was that tactic ever gonna work? If anything, it's further confirmation that the asker is a terrible person, and it makes what would just be a "no" into a "I don't want you near me ever again, get out of my face". It's the most counterproductive thing they could be doing.

Do they legit think that this is an effective way to get the girl (or anyone else, for that matter) to unreject them or something?
If incels had any social skills they wouldn't be incels.

You don't know what would be the end of a serial killer's list: plants, animals, people, or even inanimate objects.
How...do you kill something that was never alive?

Teal fires its shotgun at Pink, two pellets hit dealing 13 damage. Teal is also zapped by Red and dealt 4 damage and stunned for 2 turns. Pink also shoots it with its sniper, dealing 3 damage.

That's low as hell. If I tried going there in winter wearing the clothes I normally wear, I'd die of hypothermia in minutes, if not seconds! How do you live? 10 layers of clothing (5 of which jackets) to go outdoors?
Coat (one of those bulky ones), warm shirt, warm pants, cap, warm boots, mittens. Basically it.

laughs in Siberian

We have somewhat high humidity but our winters often reach below -30C. -40C sometimes. I live near the very south of Western Siberia so it's not consistently -40C.

It's 2 more turns until I can use the Actuators, right?
Yes.

KT, you can't move and fire at the same time but you'd have line-of-sight anyways so I'll have you shoot.

Both the Red and Pink robots fire their sniper rifles at the Teal robot.

You won't believe what just happened. Here's a screenshot.

Both shots miss by a few centimeters! The audience is laughing hard.

Teal meanwhile fires its shotgun at Pink after moving towards it. Only one bullet reaches Pink... and also misses.

(Note to self: Make misses less likely next time and/or buff the shotgun slightly.)

I somewhat care about my gender but I don't care if people refer to me as "they".

So this game is fairly mechanics-light. You submit an action and I determine what happens. For risky things I may roll dice, such as a D20. However there are several mechanics such as factions or resource tracking, of which factions might not be self-explanatory.

Factions represent groups of like-minded nobles within your realm. Each has a loyalty (from "Devoted" to "In Revolt"), certain policies, and a type-- the types are:
  • Conservative: Those factions generally uphold the current order. They may have different agendas, however, such as representing a particular sub-race of animal-people or other claimants.
  • Reformist: Those factions usually support reforms such as increasing tolerance of other cultures and religions.
  • Traditionalist: Those factions actively support returning to a previous order of things. They range from religious fundamentalists to pissed-off conservatives.

With this, let's start the game.

A scribe hands you, Algra Yeren a map showing the immediate surroundings of the kingdom.

The capital of Three Rivers is the small town of Copper, named so for a particularly large copper deposit that the town was founded on a few centuries ago. There also exist the villages of Sheephaven (it has a thriving sheep farm), Waterfall (named so because a nearby river runs off a cliff) and Zania's End (founded by the followers of the adventurer Zania after her death). The nearby kingdoms and tribes are: Vriciek's Domain which is even smaller and founded by an adventurer, its capital is Hope; the Kingdom of Auratum, it is fairly large and rich as it was founded on a gold mine, its capital is the city of Aurora; West Miheim which is an aristocratic republic with the capital of Sharpknife split from the Kingdom of Miheim, which became East Miheim (just off the map). There are minor animal-people tribes to the southwest and goatfolk tribes to the northeast, they have no organized government.

What do you do now?

Pink is once again out of range of Teal's shotgun... But don't forget about using actuators when you can use them.

It is a calm autumn day. Soft rain is falling. Chief-King Rimeeln Moonclaw is on his deathbed in a small stone keep, what passes for a seat of power in this ancestors-forsaken kingdom. He is asked to name one of his offspring as a successor. Having written no last will and too weak to say anything, he points to one of his children, one of the nobles standing beside him. Then he exhales his last breath and goes limp.

A day passes. The feline shaman places a tarnished bronze crown on your head as you sit down on the moss-overgrown throne. You are now the king. What you do is up to you, however the factions among the nobles also have a say...
