I don't know what they done to you but we don't mention the cursed letters

You inspect the broken clock. It appears to show about five twenty-three PM. Obviously it's not working, though. After some consideration, you decide to abandon the broken computer.

You look at the door on the left, backing up against the wall so it doesn't automatically open. It seems to not be able to fully close, and there is a smiley face burned into the surface of it. Behind it seems to be another hall with an opening with pipes inside at the end of it.

You go in. At the ceiling there seems to be a vent with a hole below it.

You decide to pick up eat the piece of paper. It isn't very filling but now you know how paper tastes like.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Speaking of evil moments, I have a few favourites. The most recent one was a game of Victoria 2 as Persia. My army was battered and broken and I was dying slowly because I was in the UK's failing sphere. A massive communist revolution popped up and I couldn't defeat it. As it turns out, communists were popular with under one percent of the population, and much of the rest of the game was crushing several 60k stacks of liberal rebels at a time until, even with the game's casualty limit being around 20%, I had killed well over a million of my own citizens.

The most satisfying thing was seeing police state as an invention pop up and watching existing stacks fade away slowly, slowly, going from 60k to 20k and then to nothing. Even in the uncivilized nations I had conquered.
Yep... and some mods add a genocide decision, I wonder what those people would think of it? You can also siege down an entire country and keep it occupied for years, IIRC that raises militancy and kills pop so eventually it will be reduced into a depopulated failed state. And with commands you can mess up the economy of the entire world.

Actually, most GSGs involve indirectly killing thousands if not millions even if you don't go out of your way to be Hitler.

I saw somebody propose that gamers should be held accountable for in-game crimes such as murder and theft in "particularly realistic games, such as Dwarf Fortress". I knew that person for a while so they're not a troll. But, like, we're not even close to the level of realism, even in DF, where we could consider NPCs to be alive and in possession of rights. I, for example, use DF as an anger outlet a lot. Why should we enact nonsensical laws like that, and how would we enforce them?

My IPad is flashing blue at the bottom of the screen. I can still use the keyboard, does anyone have an idea on how to stop the blue? Or what caused it?
Edit: apparently rebooting it fixed the problem
Well, Rule 1 of tech support is: If you don't know how to fix it, first thing you should do is reboot it.

DF Suggestions / Re: Diseases update
« on: April 28, 2020, 09:08:54 am »
I like this but I think it should be added AFTER the magic update. I don't want the magic update to get pushed even further away.
No, only BEFORE. Because magic can make playing easier. Magic was in oldest versions, but it may be added only after dwarven economic.
No, Economy is *far* after magic on the development plan.

Honestly this might fit some time after magic so we can get magical diseases.

Other than this, +1.

Yes, 5/6

Would it be ok if I linked this game to a random chat section in a B12 discord to get more players to find this?
Yes, please do advertise.

Do we PM actions now? Talk with others? Has the game started yet?
Not even 6 players yet so I can't even go with reduced teams. So no.

1. How will DF's procedural generation be affected by the inclusion of graphics? If procgen creatures are going to have customized sprites, which means more work on the part of the artists as opposed to just ASCII where these things are handled by verbal descriptors, would that mean that future procedural generation stuff will have to be limited or removed to accommodate a graphical overlay?

The plan is to have even deeper procgen. Maybe we will have sprites for procgen creatures that are "assembled" from sprites for body parts?

Is there a law on not talking outside the thread? you should add it if there is.
Kind of torn on whether there should or shouldn't be one.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Shootout [Round 2]
« on: April 26, 2020, 09:06:10 am »
Rules:
1. Every player has a gun.
2. Each round you must PM me with your choice to:
   * Shoot another player. This will generally kill them, but see below.
   * Not shoot. This choice will kill you if anyone targets you, but if no one does, you live.
   * Shoot yourself. This will save you and kill anyone who targets you (for gameplay reasons), but if no one does, you die.
3. The players are divided into three teams of three players (or two players if we get less than 9 players). Red, Green, and Blue.
4. Pre-game, the players vote on one of two rules:
   * Players know their own team, but not who else is on what team.
   * Players don't know anybody's team, even their own.
5. The game process, once it starts, goes like this:
   1. The players discuss the game, deceive each other, try to figure out who is on their team, etc.
   2. The players send their actions (as described in Rule 2) to me via Private Message.
   3. When all actions are received, the round is over and I proceed to process the results in order to find out who dies and who survives.
   4. At the beginning of the next round, I will reveal the team to which the dead players belonged.
   5. The game continues until only one team remains alive. In this case, the whole Team wins the game and not just the alive players.

To sign up, just post

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: April 26, 2020, 02:17:11 am »
Anyway, after slaughtering everyone in the one bandit-controlled settlement, we encountered a named giant cheetah in the woods, which I turned into fancy decorations for my gear.
Wait, you can decorate in adventure mode? Is that a mod?

Click on the Ha[math synbol]AA file, to the right of the back button
(That's not a file. It's the word "Back" in Russian.)
thanks, I didn’t know that, are the words to the right the other words in Russian, too?
Yes. Literally translated.
do you know Russian?
Read my sig. Of course I do...
Do you live in Russia? If so, what’s it like?
Yes. Honestly I don't like it here and I'm going to move soon. Our government is bad, oppressive, and incompetent.
