DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress
« on: February 03, 2021, 09:02:10 am »
With the UI updates, are there any plans to have skills consolidated eg metalsmith and metal crafter, fish cleaner/dissector

Are there any plans for an in game glossary or recipe tree? Eg Iron is made of 3 different ores: hematite, lignite and magnetite. Combine with flux stone to make pig iron

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Stress & Pysche 47.05
« on: February 01, 2021, 05:59:03 am »
I think the best thing about these sorts of tests is being able to perform dwarven !!SCIENCE!! and not have to worry about one of the control group going insane
because the idea is to test if it is possible to inure dwarves to slaughter again without them going insane

If the entire control group fails to go insane, all that means is stress adaptaion is working

and now I've typed all that and reread it for spelling errors, all I can hear is cave johnson

edit: another thing to note-what constitutes a minor thought?

out of curiosity (the update having renewed my interest in DF) I flipped through the legends and the current save

The Tavern Keepers Dungeon Master report 171

The missing hatch cover? its here on the floor with the arena, Z -17 one square NW of my X in this sketching (OOC, this was after unretiring)

I have been going over some records found within the Overseers office and crossing it with testimony from merchants and visitors
-since 163, the dwarven population has grown by 200~
-goblins, in the last 2 years managed to wear down and conquer staffhoisted. Dwarven reslience has kept their numbers around the same at 9300
-kobold population has halved in 10 years. The goblins are murdering them like buggery according to travellers in the Tall Bar
-the elven population thankfully was reduced to double digits in the year 165 when the goblins bulldozed their way through all their settlements. unfortunately they have since built back up to approximately 110-130 members across all civilisations.

The trio of dwarven settlements are under goblin control, including I'm frustrated to say, the mountainhomes of Doorended once again. That said the dwarves of Wealthymirrored (our red site next to the trio of green gobbos) are putting up one hell of a fight.
Admittedly this isn't the first time we lost the mountainhomes as it was destroyed by a Titan back in the days of yore

The elves aren't in good shape, cowering behind the dwarves. The humans are SW of the dwarven chain on the coast

One last piece of intelligence I was able to uncover. Records from time are scarce but this was shocking:

DF Announcements / Re: Dwarf Fortress 0.47.05 Released
« on: January 29, 2021, 08:13:03 am »
these fixes will do wonders for the forts! Thanks toady, I already know a couple of overseers who will be returning as a result of these

build the goblin execution tower! roast the plump helmets! Massacre the elves! Restart the day care!

Damn, that update is fantastic assuming it all functions as intended. Perfect for this fort in particular

"Makes dwarves cave adaptation effects less frequent" - excellent! When I get time for another turn, I can continue the magma pipe up the outside of the Tall Bar without flooding the surface with vomit (granted that was atypical of a dwarf fort)

"Make people get used to seeing dead bodies" - I should think so given small hands at a few points in time had more undead than alive

"Make valuable meal satisfy in addition to preferences" - Return of the dwarven special: the *3 rum roast* (made up of 3 bottles of dwarven rum, one is frozen and put in the second and heated, with the third being the drink)

233
"I don't recognise that hatch cover" She said as she flipped through her old journals.
"Was it one we installed? It could have got caught in a pile that was atom smashed. Artifacts just get shunted into a demiplane if that happens" To this, Elpho was reported as sighing
"My official tavern keeper advice: Check the artifacts tab on the world display scrolls." Recon*1 continued.
She then handed over a tankard of Overseer's Motivator*2 to Elpho.
"But as a fellow dwarf: I could also see one of those idiot hauliers accidentally selling or stealing it. Best to find out where it was last first then send Zully*3 after them"

*Footnote 1 Recon was a particularly infamous Overseer of Smallhands who also worked as the Tavern Keeper and Election official. She was known for her egotistical ambitions, but was perceptive and worse: skilled at paperwork- a frightening combination

*Footnote 2 Overseer's Motivator is an potent booze specifically designed to get the recipient drunk and mentally focused. Naturally exclusive to Overseers and royalty within the dwarven kingdom, though it is known that Tavern Keepers occasionally partook of their own stock to ensure quality resulting in many famous Keepers of the Taps

Footnote 3 Zully was KingZultan

61 oh dear...looks like we have 61 soldiers to go burn the elves goblins!

235
good luck delphonso!

236
Shoot, I sadly might have to quit because of the stupidest reason I could probably have imagined:
I somehow lost my mouse so I can't actually get into the game  :-\

oh btw, you can get a usb mouse very cheap, just order off your phone or something

237
Dear Urist McBoozehaulier

Your order was to move the mead to the designated stockpile for flammability testing, not drink the entire barrel dry then haul the empty keg there!

You've just set my explosive alcohol research back by a year thanks to your idiocy. As punishment you are being demoted from haulier to military scout. Please dump your clothing and belongings in the relevant stockpiles and report to the barracks for further orders.

The Overseer

you can navigate any computer interface with a keyboard, its fiddly but it works

I enjoy that nobody questions my choice to use a literal child as the overseer.

very fun  :D

I will try to finish up my turn today.

Well this fort's overseers haven't exactly been the most...normal

We've had:
  • The smallest dwarf in existence
  • A religious architect
  • A forgotten beast observer
  • A dwarf so traumatised by zombies they had a name change
  • Emotionless ghoul
  • Reclaimation agent on behalf of HM the insane queen
  • The keeper of bees and graves
  • The sole survivor and echnida hater
  • A dwarven major general
  • Paranoid haulier
  • An alpaca engineer
  • A captured necromancer
  • No longer emotionless ghoul
  • Pressganged ghoul
  • Dictator bartender
  • Disguised group of bees
  • A murderous scientist
  • Undead alpaca engineer
  • An eternal ghoul
  • Body swapping Bartender turned Dictator
  • The sanest noble: the sole survivor
  • Mad scientist on thin ice

So a child wouldn't exactly be out of the realm of possibility. Aside from the fact smallhands tended to uh...lose its children

Looking forward to it! Luckily as baby sleeps a bit better and work is slowing down, I should be good for a turn after Murr. Anyone else want to sign up?

Castimier, I'll add you to the list.
Gonna try to spruce up the OP now.
I have the sudden urge to sign back up. Once again, no idea if school will provide by then, but we'll see.

you can always be put down and then if needs be take you off again
