Then i look over to my jail and see that the prisoner is standing ontop of a pile of 16 corpses.

This guy should be launched by drawbridge into the goblin tower to slaughter the goblin rulers.  On his return, assuming he survives, he will be pardoned.

Starring Urist Sevalis as Archer J. Purringmaggot.

I saw one of them cut a tank in half.
The statement in another forum I frequent is "A katana can cut a tank in half, even if it misses!"

The other is "Katana: a bastard sword with a great PR campaign."

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Two-handed weapons vs one handed
« on: June 24, 2008, 06:43:32 pm »
As others have said, there is no dual wielding available in the game right now. I think eventually it might get added in, but not right now.

I honestly hope not.  Dual-wielding is one of those 1337 B@d@55!!!1eleven! things that sounds totally awesome unless you know something about actual live steel combat.

Dual wielding styles were certainly practiced, but only as dueling styles.  A second full length weapon gives an extra sting on the field of honor, but takes away too much flexibility on the field of battle.

Improve your dining room.

I'm not sure which of the following interpretations I get from that:

1: If your dining room is nice, no one will care about a little odor.
2: This is a finely-crafted table.  It is encircled with bands of superior quality kitten bone.

Do training dwarves get a number of skill points that are split between the skills they are using?  If so, a swordsdwarf that doesn't have a shield would not be putting any points in shield user.  That might explain it, but I have no idea how skill gain really works.

Items dropped by the dead should IMO be auto-forbidden (or you should have the option to do so).  This would solve other problems, too, such as the 4x400m !!sock!! relay.

The savings come from the fact that bronze production from ores produces twice as much metal per smelting, and thus per bar of coke, as copper production.

2 billon bars can be smelted from a single tetrahedrite stone, counting as a copper and a silver, but it isn't useful for the picks and axes needed in a bootstrap start.  Galena is the only other 2 metal ore, but there aren't any silver/lead alloys.

Bismuth bronze requires 2 copper (12), 1 tin (6), and 1 bismuth (3), 9 coke (4.5 bituminous coal, 13.5) for 4 items.  That's 34.5 per 4 items, or 8.625 per item.  8.63 is just the rounded number copied from the spreadsheet I was working on.

Of course, you can't carry 1/2 a lump of bituminous coal on the embark screen, but the numbers are just a guide.
