« on: September 09, 2014, 04:12:51 am »Hero Garett is eager to train in the library, starting with dodge and armor usage, then melee combat and whatever melee skill (mace?) he would need to use his bow in melee, in case he ever faces an enemy without arrows in his quiver. Also, he got a big grin on his face at the mention of specialty arrows.

Imeka, you've created 10 stacks of gem/glass arrows for Garrett. Did you want to create gem armor for his missing pieces?
As I see in the inventory screenshoot he is just missing a helmet. Create a gem helmet pls.
As for the poll, I voted for human because "bayonetted musket", but now I think it uses another skill than the bow and would not be as useful for Garret, so pls disregard that vote and +1 for dwarves (runed armor) instead.

Imeka, please choose your guild of choice, Masons or Jewelers for your minion. You already received a guild bonus for pay since I assumed you are technically a guild member already. And guilds do negotiate higher wages for members.
I'm slightly in favor of the Jewelers Guild, but if there are already other Jewelers Guild members or you are in great need of masons, Masons Guild would be fine too.
And soo.... in order to establish a proper defense for the city I am now opening it up for your heroes. Sure, I know I said you'd have to pay to bring them here. Um, wow, they are expensive. So, everyone gets a free hero and full set of copper gear if your hero does not come with any. (Please state hero type and weapon choice and I will get working on it.) Keep in mind that there is only one squad of city defenders and you.
Ranger. His hardened leather gear should be about as good as copper, but feel free to upgrade it to gem (or glass) armor. Rock/ glass/ gem tipped ammunition needs wood, I'm not sure if it would be cheaper than metal ammunition. Provide what ever my minion can afford.

Btw, instead of his skills his personality is linked a second time.

« on: August 15, 2014, 04:26:21 am »He paused for a moment and took another sip "I had some trouble with rhesus maquces, they stole my waterskin and backpack besides some other not so important things. I was glad I stored my bow and arrows savely inside shortly before. The other wildlife didn't bother me much, until one day I spotted some ogres in the distance. I was afraid of them, so I started to construct the wall. Work progressed slowly until you came at the end of the second year, I think it was obsidian?" The hermit looked at his tireless companion, who answered. "Yes, I remember helping you with the last part of the wall and the drawbridge. And then you sent me to dig for ores below our home while you started with the roof. Oh, and around that time you began keeping bees and silkmoths and also build a well inside of our walls."
The hermit chuckled. "I don't know if the bees were a good or bad idea. The mead certainly tastes great, but the little buggers keep stinging our pets and they cause a lot of work. But we have a good store of wax, honey and royal jelly now, I haven't harvested them in quite some time. The silkmoths did produce way less than the bees and also grew much slower, as much as I fancy having silk clothes, we did get more wool cloth from our single sheep than silk from the silk moths. And to be honest, the rope reed farm was the most productive for getting cloth. But back to our past, as I recall you very quickly found cassiterite and sphalerite. Pleased that we had access to metals, I had you then help me with the roof."
Bob, who never ate, drank or slept, had finished his job and joined the hermit in the dining room for a well deserved break. "Even working together, it took us until the summer of the third year to build the roof. We were just finished with it, when two kobold thiefs got chased away by our dogs in Galena. That scared you so much that you quickly cut some last trees and then closed the bridge and sealed us in. Or was it because of the talisman you found just a few days later?" The hermit went into the kitchen and helped himself to a royal jelly and seed crossaint "Both, that talisman was worth about ten times as much as everything else we had and kobolds are always a bad sign. Except for the bow that I had not shot once since arriving here we had no weapons or armor as you very well know. That awkward moment I realised that neither tin nor zinc are metals you can make a fire save anvil from."
Bob grimaced. "So it was back to mining for me in search of copper. While you were playing around with that talisman." Etur protested "That was no playing around, that was research. The magic of the talisman could have been very helpful to us. Alas, I didn't know that conjurations would take offerings we couldn't provide. I briefly considered to go hunting, but I wasn't sure if I could take on the raptors that were outside that time. Or the giant coyotes that followed. Sometimes I'm envious of the druids who just go and tame those beasts." "Ah, so thats why you build a nature shrine in our courtyard under the roof, where it is completly ineffective." "Oh, shut up, Bob. Everyone can make mistakes. And you can imagine what would have happend if I dared to venture outside of our walls to build it there. Since shortly after, in Galena of the fourth year, a squad of humans, 15 blademan, one maceman and one ironclad horse, appeared, mistaking me for a warlock and besieging us. Do I look anything like a warlock to you? Where are all the ghouls and skeletons that would follow me if I was a warlock? But no, those humans were set in their minds and didn't listen to me."
Bob tried his best to calm Etur down, else he would rant for hours. "No, you are not a warlock and those humans were stupid for believing it. Anyway, in the following months I dug deeper and deeper, through layers of stone that had no ores, just gems, while the siege outside continued. It was winter when you called me to tell me of your idea how we can kill the humans or other folk who bother us." The hermit smiled. "Its rather ingenious, isn't it? A narrow path of traps leading over a deep pit, so that they either get injured by the traps or dodge and break some bones when they fall, while I stand behind the fortifications and shoot arrow after arrow at them."
Bob sighed. "Only that we are woking on it for over a year now and still do not have it finished. You were so intent on working on it that we didn't notice when the humans left, somewhere in summer it must have been. But that gave us the opportunity to savely dig a second entrance to the trap corridor. And then we sealed it immidiately until we are ready." Etur interrupted. "Speaking of ready, you finally found malachite in autumn and we made a copper anvil, and look, I have made a full set of bronze armor, now I can go out and fight." Bob rolled his eyes, he reckoned the old man would rather finish the traps and fight from relative safety than go out and seek trouble.

I played at normal speed, no need for savescumming so far. That will probably change once I stop being a turtling coward...
Oil can be pressed from several plants with the screw press or made from tallow at the workshop (alchemy), poison can be produced from certain plants at the workshop (poison).))

« on: August 12, 2014, 01:49:46 pm »My second hermit (genned new world, this time I could get cotton cloth on embark, took 4 and made clothing set without problem with one cloth left) is in his second summer and doing quite well. He has a moderately sized home dug out, some tiny farms planted and his entrance surrounded with a wall. The two migrant waves arrived while he was digging, so he did not witness them dieing, all the migrants are missing on the units screen. He did not bury the regrets left by the migrants with missing status, only those of the initial 6 he saw dieing and which are listed as dead. When I stationed him near the regrets of the missing there were no announcements that he found someone dead, he seemed not recognize the regrets as corpses of the missing migrants. By now all of them were stolen by rhesus maquaces.

Goblins! I heard our military has killed them, but we lost our Sheriff and some Wrestlers. I'm just glad that I wasn't outside at that time, as I lack any skill in fighting. One more thing I have to learn until I can return home I guess.
7th Slate:
Some migrants arrived today. I carefully asked around for news from my old home, especially of my mother. Seems she died a while ago from thirst, stricken by melancholy as she was. And my father is surely executed by now. I have no relatives left, so only revenge is what calls me to return there.
26th Slate:
I heard that our military will be equipped with crossbows. I like crossbows, maybe I'll ask our new Sheriff if I can join the military and train with one. But not yet.
14th Hematite:
What kind of cowards is our military made of? Running from a kobold... I must admit that I'm afraid of them too, but thats just that I know that I'm too weak to fight against them. Next time I meet the Sheriff or Durien I ask if I can join the military as a marksdwarf.

10th Limestone:
After hauling some goods to the depot I gossiped a bit with one of the caravan guards. Bad, really bad news for me from my home. My father is sentenced to death for treason, my brother killed resisting the guards. My mother was spared cause she went insane. And me too awaits death if I ever return. I know that I have done nothing and I believe my family to be innocent. Whose dirty hands are behind this all? I can only guess.
some more unreadable entries
14th Moonstone:
Bear, the strong ranger Bear is dead. I always admired her for her strength and now she is gone. And I, I have yet to decide if I stay (and likely die) here or return to the mountainhomes (and even more likely die).
3rd Opal:
Great news, the cave is almost clear of monsters! The greatest threat left is the Hydra. And the creatures of fire near the magma. Although I'm afraid of all these dangers, I will stay here for the time being. If I ever return to the mountainhomes I want to be strong enough to avoid the guards until I have avenged my family.

Baer the ranger informed us today that we will arrive Nokzamoslan in some days. I'm glad, my feet are hurting and I really would appreciate sleeping in a bed and not outside on the ground. Also some booze would be nice. I've studied the other while we were travelling and I think I'll have no trouble playing a peasant, since from what I've heard carrying around stuff is all what they ever do.
3rd felsite, 1052:
Yesterday we arrived in Nokzamoslan. I was shocked when I saw this hole in the ground, I couldn't believe that to be really the place I will spend the next year in! Shortly after our arrival a dwarf introduced himself as Durien, the Leader of the outpost. He warned us abount a cave and a hydra living nearby. Oh well, another reason to hate this place. I wonder if the barons son knew about this, surely he wouldn't have chosen this place for our bet if he knew? While wondering about it I missed something Durien said to me, so he had to repeat it. Apparently he got the impression that I am a weaver and sent me to build a new loom. I know how to see the quality of cloth and the style it was weaved, but nothing at all about how to weave it! So instead of resting from the journey I immediately constructed the loom with some help of the resident clothier. If I ever find some free time I will have to practice secretly.
5h felsite:
Not much progress on my secret learning project, sadly. I have been busy all day and now I will have to do even more work, since I was asingned to help in the fields. At least no one expects me to have any experience in this...
24th felsite:
Looking at the last date I wrote into this diary I'm not surprised. All my bones hurt from the unfamiliar work and whenever I have some free time I'm simply too tired to do anything else than rest - or secretly practicing weaving! I think I finally can call me a Novice weaver. Although being tired and sore, I'm conted at actually doing something useful.
26th felsite:
I wish I could return home immediatly. Today I was up on the cliff helping our plantgatherer when we spotted Bear who now hunts for us down below. She was ambushed by a fire man! And instead of running away she charged it! Not wanting to see her die I looked away, but after no further sound of battle was heard I just had to see the outcome. I wish I hadn't looked, the sight of the mangled fire man was awful. Now everytime I venture outside I fear to be ambushed, since I'm not as strong and fearless as Bear.
