Well, between the Steam update and the upcoming Mario movie there may be renewed interest in ROTMK in the future. On that note, I found it funny that the movie trailer made the Koopas' punching bag enemies penguins, when Bumpties are the first invaders for Koopa players in this mod.  Fun coincidence there!

This mod with a fitting tileset and a new Kruggsmash video would bring a whole new wave of players.

If the game should be keyboard only playable again in the future, this should be at least toggleable

Ok, but...why would dwarves (or anyone) do this?

Because newly created sock-elves will grow with age, and can be harvested later for more socks than you started with.
These socks can then be traded to elves because the socks are grown socks.

“Mommy and Daddy, where do elves come from?”
So some teenagers just try to create human-sockelf hybrids?

Or make them able to shapeshift into a humanoid or another animal form. In Battle and in their dimension they are in their natural form, and as humanoid they may wander the world and, depending on their spheres, try to manipulate people.

Edit:
Would work great with the syndroms. Maybe Priests could know from their gods that the demon of Misery is wandering the lands as pigeon and people start killing pigeons on sight to protect themselves.
