DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Metal in stockpiles
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:17:35 am »
Well, though I'm quite good in getting my stonecrafter legendary and having him put out some worth, I just want a stockpile in my smithing area where his stuff doesn't belong to. Just bars and blocks (those work fine...) and all kinds of metal(!) products: goods, furniture, armor and weapons...
Hmm, the macro seems like a solution, gonna try this out and hope it doesn't only work in the furniture metals...

Ok, sounds like a plan.
But there are way more metals beolw in the list, native platinum and aluminium and adamantine for example...
Only the gems are quite compact so a jewelers stockpile would be quite easy...

Configuring a stockpile I've found out that under the point material:metal , EVERY stone (and even clay and sands) and gem is listed, making it difficult to impossible to setup stockpiles. Is this hardcoded and we have to wait for a future update or can I mod it out?

Well, even ALL gems are listed under metals.
That explains why my non-metal stockpiles also never worked :(

I once had a fortress with literally HUNDREDS of the blue stuff before there was...let's say...danger, and that was 30 levels below the first candy vein! And in others I've had it so there was hardly any candy before danger. It really depends on the map I find.

Yep, also had several levels of candy in some underground caverns far away from magma or clowns...

Well, so I reserved a certain craftsdwarfs shop for my legendary stonecrafter to both reduce stone und pimp my fortress value.
But everytime I start a order for 10 bone bolts in the managerscreen, just this workshops gets it. As my stonecrafter is nothing else than a stonecrafter, he immediately stops working.
So how can I exclude this certain workshop from the managers orders? The workshop profile only allows me to reserve it for my stonecrafter?!

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Danger Room questions

So all my dwarfs are equipped in full iron armor and I've setup a nice danger room with a checkerboard of weapontraps with 3 training spears each and pressure plates. When I want to link the weapon traps to the plates, it just says "There is nothing that can be linked up".
How can I link the plates to the traps?

you need b > T > S as I recall, and I had to fill the room with them instead of have a checkerboard pattern since the dwarves stand in random spots.  Oh, and make the door to the room pet-impassible lest you kill off some kitties.

Thx 4 all, after setting it to a lever and setting this lever to repeat it finally works. With the pressure plate, the dwarfs just stood on it and it never released. I'm very short before reenabling invaders...

Weapon traps automatically fire when hostiles without [TRAP_AVOID] walk on them. You want Upright/Spear traps. I think it's at the bottom of the menu, capital-S, I want to say.

Ah, thx. Let's see if it works.

I consider danger rooms an exploit.

Hmm, see it as a kind of Rommelbahn, those the soldiers coruch under barbed wire and so on...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Training a bear

Well, another question I may add here:is it possible to train wolfs into war wolfs? I have 2 tame bought from elves, bought everytime I let them run around free and start a job in the kennel to train a war animal it always cancels the job?

But only grizzlies! I have still have a black bear and I'm sad that all I can do is have him chained in the entrance as spy snatcher.

Hmmm, don't know if the fire can crawl up the booze fall and explode your whole booze reservoir -.-
But if we have a flaming booze moat, I would suggest setting arrows on fire, now that we have a controllable firesource, letting rain down fire on the gobbos or even throw it with a catapult *dream*

Well, the dwarfes would always lick on the walls and stick there with their tongues frozen to the wall. Btw does it get cold enough to freeze booze?
