I've read about the big cave system thingy, but I don't actually know if caves have already been inplemented, and if so, how to find them. Can someone enlighten me?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Get my wood cutter to cut wood

Hi.

I can't get any wood cut. I have a free healthy dwarf with wood cutting enabled, and Fight with Axe on his  soldiering screen. But I only have two axes, and both of those are in bed with injured trappers and woodworkers. I have the feeling that's why I designate trees that just don't get chopped. How do I get the sickly dwarves to let go of their now useless weapons?

Hey guys

I can set up a hole in the wall and support my first seven dwarves through their first year. But I'm so OCD that without a complete plan in my head before hand I don't know what to do to move to a larger fortress. How does the old one fit within the new one? How do I layout the piles/shops/etc.? I need some serious help.

What are your guys' strategies for expanding?

Okay, so I've embarked on a fairly nice map and I've got a small fort set up that will support seven dwarves for a while. But I need to plan the next stage of the fort. Is there a tool where I can export the map so I can look at it for a while outside of the game?

So I just got a bunch of migrants, and I think I'm gonna make all the peasants haulers/smoothers/grunts. But I'm trying to decide if the professionals should do some hauling too -- just the items they'll need. Like, should I also have a Mason do Stone hauling?

IS there an option or something I need to enable to get my dwarves to remove garbage and rotting vermin from the fortress and put it in the refuse pile I made outside? The pile is empty and there are dead vermin from my cat and no one's moving it, even though everyone still has garbage hauling and cleaning skills enabled.

Can you build a floor tile beside a wall without support under it? I want to build a bride out of stone, maybe three support pillars, then floor and walls from one end to the other.

Or, perhaps, a tower that gets wider as it gets taller.

Hi. It says in the wiki under floodgates that I shouldn't place a floodgate in an already flooded area. How do I block an above-ground river for a while, so I can rechannel it and dig out some rubies?
