I agree with all your points and figured the refit room would be the perfect explaination for the weapons. It would be nice to be able to see these in the war room also.

I think the trick to the icons on the action screen is to try and figure what information we need to see to win the game/make good decisions. For example, we abosultly need to know if a ship is an enemy or friendly as soon as we see it. This should not be mouse over information. On the other hand, we don't really need to know where the objectives are, that is information we don't need to make a split second decision on and is fine either as a "show objectives" button, a minimap function, or as a war room function.

I pre-ordered and played the alpha. It took me two tries to beat the first mission and I still haven't beat hornet's nest.

I generally like the game but I do have some critisims. Let me prefreace by saying “I understand this is an alpha and a polished one at that”. My suggestions are only about making the alpha more playable/enjoyable.
First of all, it is impossible to tell what your ship is effective at or which weapons to use from the mission screen or even from the tactical screen. It would be really nice if we could get an info screen on the weapons and hints as to how they are to be used.

Secondly the tactical screen is a bit of a mystery. I’ll have to play it again to figure out what I am doing wrong, but we could definitely use a tutorial on it (maybe a mission without a command ship?).

Finally, controlling on the action screen is confusing. There are lots of icons but they don’t seem to give you the information you need, namely, where the fight is happening and where the enemy is coming from. It would be nice if it had a simple message over a battle icon saying something like “fighter wings (72%) vs cruiser(43%)” that way you retain some tactical awareness while on the action screen.

I know nothing of the Iron curtian.

The village, Riverend, is up. It has been heavily neglected and needs to go through some remodeling and expanding. It is a tad overwhelming right now. I created an alt just to help gathering stones and the such.

That being said we have 2 stone mansions and many many timber houses. We have metals and tools, but lack some basic stuff like freely available leather armor and bear cloaks.

My plan is to fix some problems I have had with the village (creates everywhere and full of crap, disoragized tools, the animal pen) while leveling up an industry alt.

Once that is all taken care of and we have some villagers I'd like to start in on a mega project. It will be either an areana/trade zone or sinister slave camp.

Rift pretty much summed it up. The system actually works really really well. If a medium power force came in to crush Riverend, we could hire a much more powerful force to come collect scents and bring about justice. Who has more to lose in that situation? My 1 million LP character or 5-10 million guys with the nice gear.

People get the completely wrong idea from the forums. They think somehow this game is all about building stuff up and having it destroyed when it isn't, infact, too difficult to protect yourself. Like Rift said, we had very few problems. Once a guy tried to lure us out of the gates and once someone stole our bear. Big deal?

I actually think what killed our city is the lack of conflict.

Speaking of the killed city, we are desperate for new villagers. We need miners, foragers, hunters, smiths... just about anything. We have plenty of food and room.

Finally, if you do join or did join, please move your hearth fires off the pathways.

I think I tried SoD and it crashed every 2 minutes. I can't remember if that was on Vanilla or WB.

Native Expansion had a decent enough kingdom system. I am going to try the compilation mod tonight.

It has been stated over and over that the hermit lifestyle is very advanced play. You can't say 40-60% of the content is only avaible to 10 people because you haven't seen it when you've been living in a log cabin. Joining a villiage isn't difficult. I personally have seen probably 75% of the content in the game and, again, I was just in our small 8 person village.

If you don't understand the developer mindset, you should read this post. It is mainly about PVP but gives insites into Jorb's mindset in general: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17900

Anyways, all that aside, I am going to try and get the village up and running again.

What is the best mod for running your own kingdom? It must be stable. Can be vanilla or Warband.

Fair point. I am not that interested in just adding more monsters, but I am interested in most everything else. More crafting, more blocks, that sort of stuff would be interesting.

I am going to ask the question that has been asked many times.

What is the current best mods to use and what do they do? I got on the forums last night and it looked like Industrial Craft was out of date.

40 or 50% of the game? Not even close. We managed to find every metal but gold, grow every crop, raise every animal, do pretty much everything in the game and we were mostly a band of newbs. About the only thing we didn't ever try was raiding, but I don't think any of us were really interested in that anyways.

As for the forums, they are a fun read. There is so much history in the game already that the drama plays out interestingly enough. People join the game, get big eyes and suddenly lose everything. It shocks them and they cry. This is the HnH meme. People lock themselves behind palisades spot tree folk, find scents, and post about it on the forums, for everyone to laugh at them.

On the other hand, if you do have questions, people really are generally helpful.

I am willing to take over lawspeaker/chieften of the village. I have all the skills and LP for it anyways. I'll be on tonight, after 4:30 Pacific time.

Only good news if I get a TF2 hat out of it.

The game looks great, I can't wait to try it.

Is it still possible to find patch preview notes? I hate their videos.

I recently started playing trynd. He is tough. My general build is Zeal, inf edge, either attack speed boots or merc treads (if the team has good mages and CC), upgrade Zeal to Phantom Dancer, then grab Spirit visage.

I don't remember my rune setup exactly, but I start the game with around 33% crit chance. When I am done with Inf Edge and PD my crit chance is 91% and easily raises to 100% when I take some damage.

Early game you have to play cautiously. You suffer from the same problem every melee class does, you have to put yourself in the enemy zone to attack but you have the added bonus of a self heal. At level 1 if you crit strike kill a minion you can heal yourself for 30 points. If you are going to take more than 30 damage getting that shot in you have a net loss of health. Generally it is better to just get those last hits at the tower.

In mid/late game team fights it is possible to "spinning slash" in and have it off cool down by the time you need to run (it is on an 8 second CD, lowered by crits, your ulti means you always survive at least 5 seconds). If you are the first one in, however, this will rarely ever work and you will die without causing much damage.

The best way to play Trynd in a team fight is to wait for your tank to engage, pick a target and hit them with everything you have. Use “w” to lower the attack damage for their entire team, spinning slash in, throw everything you have at their support or squishy DPS and hope for the best.

What I have found is that people really like to focus Trynd. If you can get the enemy team to blow their abilities on you and STILL get a kill, you are doing a good job.

I have had mixed results with Trynd, but enjoy a positive kill to death ratio.

Not really, from what I have found. People are going to offer up Heroes of Might and Magic as well as Age of Wonders, which are both great games but differ greatly from the Warlords formula.

As a side note, after many many many hours of Warlords 3 my brother and I found a silly way to play. You pick one AI team to be your ally. The whole goal is to make your ally as powerful as possible. You can attack your own ally, but not eachother or eachother's allies. Instead you start a war and leave castles undefended or crush other AI around your ally and let them take stuff over. The fail AI made this difficult but more entertaining than the standard game of "Stack elf archers everywhere, build an undefeatable army and steam roll all over the map." Often our games just ended with a big hero battle in the middle.

I think you are wrong about WW Dakk. He is an excellent laner since his hungering strike is a great last hit attack (good damage, decent cool down, low mana costs) and, along with every attack, it heals him, which leads to more lane staying power. All of this offers you proper lane control (keeping enemies close to your tower, without being able to attack it) for a good portion of the early game. He is also a great melee harasser since he can jump out of the bushes, take some damage, and heal it with hungering strike.

I don't know how anyone can deny that he is great at jungling. Shaco can only jungle by stacking a bunch of JItBs which leads to pretty slow assaulting. Once he has blue buff WW has almost constant full life.

And while it is true that he only has the one CC ability, no other melee DPS can lock people down as long as he can.
