Other Games / Re: Jaycraft Minecraft Server: THE PHOENIX RISES AGAIN

Update time! 1.4.7.0.0 is a go. Dynmap is down for the time being, while we work out how to keep it from keeping chunks with automation loaded and RAM-crashing the server.

Also, in the interest of transparency --
The server's analogy to a phoenix is more to do with my own interest in playing the game.
While the server was hosted on my PC, I couldn't really justify running it at all when I wasn't going to play it.
While the server was hosted on Tylui's VPS (wow, that was a long time ago), it ran until the VPS itself committed suicide (those of you who were around know I'm not even joking)
While the server was hosted on Logical2u's PC, it ran until..  uh, I don't even know. Until it was too far behind in updates because I stopped caring, I think?
In all of those cases, it went offline for large periods of time, ie burning to ashes. And then I would resurrect it when I got the urge again, ie rising from said ashes. A phoenix.

Now, it's on a different dedicated server. It can run as long as the $15 a month gets paid up, and somebody updates it.
I'm appointing Djohaal as a "co-owner", to hopefully do the latter while I'm not around.

As far as that payment goes, so far, we've been mostly funded by the generous donations of Djohaal and olemars.
I can't justify it totally out of my own pocket when I'm not even playing the game, so that essentially means that the server is donation funded. $15 a month is negligible at best when you split it among multiple people. In the todo list is ingame compensation for donation. All previous donations will be honored once it's worked out, assuming I can trace your ingame name from the donation info. I just changed the button on the website back to allow you to enter your own "purpose" -- I would advise your ingame name. To opt out of ingame compensation, use Anonymous or something.

At this point, though, I'm hoping that whole phoenix analogy can stop being Jaycraftian and just be me, because that's what it is. But I'll need your help.

In as well.

There's multiple third party MTG Online knock offs that use the official cards. Those cards have images on them copyrighted to many artists. I doubt a dwarf fortress mod would be worth their lawyers' attention.
FYI
The card images come from Wizards themselves, via Gatherer.
Creating a program that pulls a list of these images, and allows you to arrange them into groups, colloquially known as decks, is not illegal.
Creating a virtual tabletop to let people play the game as they would offline, using these groups of images, is not illegal.
Copying the game rules is illegal.

Cockatrice, in particular, intentionally doesn't arbitrate the game whatsoever, in order to stay within the legal limits there. I can't speak for the others, but I would expect they're the same way.

Vherid summed it up quite nicely, I think.

1.4.6.0.0 with RedPower launched!

A lot of mods are still missing, as noted on the spreadsheet.
Updates from here should be seamless, however.

So I noticed redpower updating.

Look at the version number.

Then look at the version number of all our other mods.

*Sad trombone*

What's this?

Tomorrow is 12/21/12.
The winter solstice.
Or perhaps you're a believer in that doomsday theory?
We might have something going on for you if you are. Come join us!

I've pushed a rather large update, because RedPower is still in the delay game.

Unfortunately, that means still the same world in the same state of limbo until RP updates.

I will be trying to the best of my ability to keep the current map for the foreseeable future.
Herpaherp, fair warning, this map is definitely ending with the next major server update, which will be when RedPower updates.
We may hold some sort of "goodbye hooray" however, so stay tuned for that...!

Isn't playing games one of the things you'd do to GET AWAY from coding? ugh.
Tell that to Minecraft mods ComputerCraft and RedPower, or to Garry's Mod mod WireMod.
(Ugh, the sentence structure there...)

Hrm, can't seem to connect.
Somebody managed to crash it. It should be fine now.

edit: waaait:
OP says
Quote
(optional) Any time after this point, you may install Optifine. It does not conflict.
while the spreadsheet says
Quote
CURRENTLY NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OUR VERSION OF FORGE

What is the truth?
The truth is that the OPguide was written before I even had the spreadsheet ready for 1.4.2, and I didn't remove that line when I updated the OP to 1.4.5 because it was a rather unusual situation that led to it not being compatible in the first place. You'll note it works now, for instance.

EDIT: Tried installing manually according to the guide:
Curious. First time I've seen that one. I would suggest coming to the IRC for more immediate troubleshooting, except that in this instance, solving it shan't be necessary --

Bump -- we've moved to an external server, which means latency should in general be improved from before, in addition to the increased available bandwidth.

IP/details on the front page as usual.

Okay, in retrospect, forget that.

I will be trying to the best of my ability to keep the current map for the foreseeable future.

I'm just going to casually resurrect the server here, in preparation for something I've been waiting ages for, the re-release of RedPower. Once that happens, the world we're on now is going away, but here it is nonetheless.

How've you guys been?
