Mafia / Re: Dreams of Elan: And So This Story Ends
« on: April 24, 2021, 12:54:52 pm »
Jim
Your play was okay. Your reads were somewhat accurate, town-clearing TricMagic and Bluarian, but you aggressively pressured Jack for some reason? On the flipside, you dying first was almost guaranteed and it cleared Jack as town since a Nightmare!Jack would be insane to kill you first. Jack claiming Best Friend after you pressured them even more in your one death post made him even more obvtown.

Bluarian
Your play was good. Being killed second made NQT extremely suspicious (why wouldn't NQT be killed second?) and your pro-town activity made the Nightmare think you were the Dreamer which gave KittyTac another day to work with.

KittyTac
Your play was good. You were obviously either the Dreamer or Nightmare based on your lurking. I was very worried you were actually the Nightmare, but went with Dreamer instead which was correct. If you were the Nightmare this game would have been yours easily. On the other hand, I'm surprised the Nightmare didn't figure you were the Dreamer based on your behind-the-scenes play.

EuchreJack
Your play was okay. Claiming Best Friend was risky (since it removes a daykill target for the Nightmare), but in this case a smart move as Jim was pressuring you hard and it made you confirmed town. NQT even asking for a counter-claim is bizarre as no Nightmare would claim Best Friend ever. In the end you made the right choice which is what matters, even if I feel Blue and Tric did most of the work there.

TricMagic
I don't know what to say. You were obviously town in this game because your reason and logic made absolutely no sense. The fact you make more sense as scum is disheartening, but your suspicions of NQT were correct at least.

NQT
Killing Jim first was fine. Killing Blue second was a huge mistake. Did you really think Blue was the Dreamer?

Let me just list some big moments in the game that felt extremely scummy to me and why I ultimately decided you were the Nightmare:

1.
Guess what losers? I'm the fucking Best Friend@!
EVERYONE is there a counterclaim to this?
Asking this is scummy. It doesn't make sense from a town POV.

2.
If NQT wasn't leaking his scumtells from every pore, I'd put my vote on you.
You keep saying this... but you're unable to coherently explain your thoughts. Give me a case!
Demanding cases is scummy, look at spy!Blue and spy!Tric's play in Revolution III.

"You have no proof!!" are the words of scum.

3.
I noticed that you were online when Blue was killed, but didn't post at all.

A lurking NQT is always scum, town!NQT would have posted immediately with something. Even KittyTac posted to say he would be back on later.

When you finally do post it's this:
Tric I explained why I thought it was fine to vote when I replied to Jim.
Thoughts
So either Tric or Kitty is the Nightmare: Tric is being obtuse and evasive. Kitty has laid low and been noncommittal. This is horrible bind to be in. Made worse, if we wait either one of them will die as a friend or Euchre will catch the bullet as the bestie.
If A: then Euchre can help make the final choice between the two and we have a decent chance of winning. I'll know for certain who the Nightmare will be. (I'm betting Tric, but could be K).
If B: We have no extra information, Euchre won't be here to help and it'll be a three way finger point.
Tric, what do you think of Kitty's play? Actually look at the posts.
You don't direct a case on either Tric or Kitty being the Nightmare, and instead try to push Tric and Kitty onto each other. It's scummy.

You should be pointing a finger at Tric or Kitty at this point, not waffling.

I don't know why you killed me first when I had the game dead wrong from the start and everybody else had it right.
It was to frame Jack, but Jack was the Best Friend which made this plan backfire since he could just claim his role to confirm himself as town. Otherwise, you dying first was 100% what I expected after aggressively pressuring Jack.

Also, you're Jim and you're town. You gonna die early.

@NQT:
It's sort of frustrating to me that Tric et al were completely correct about me being the Nightmare, but they were unable to explain any kind of reason for believing so. Guess it didn't matter in the end.
Don't worry, I can give concrete reasons to help in the future. I was following this game closely.

I was pretty certain who was who as soon as Blue was killed.

I sent this PM to FoU right after the second daykill:
Hmm I need to give reads for this game before it ends:

KittyTac - Dreamer
EuchreJack - Best Friend
TricMagic - Friend
NQT - Nightmare

Seeing as how my reads were correct, I will explain why this was for each player in a little bit.

Hehehe, I have some words to say once the results are posted.

Colorful Pathogen Observer (town)
(Auto) Art of Science: You are told which players are infected with your pathogen and what color the pathogen is at the start of each phase. The color of the pathogen depends on various interactions. Two of the same color results in the same color. Two primary colors will result in the corresponding secondary color, for example RED+BLUE=PURPLE, BLUE+YELLOW=GREEN, etc. Any combination of color beyond that will be BROWN, for example RED+ORANGE=BROWN, GREEN+PURPLE=BROWN, etc.
(One-Shot, Night) Spread For Science RED [target]: You infect your target with a harmless RED pathogen. Any player they target or any player that targets them from now on will be infected as well.
(One-Shot, Night) Spread For Science YELLOW [target]: You infect your target with a harmless YELLOW pathogen. Any player they target or any player that targets them from now on will be infected as well.
(One-Shot, Night) Spread For Science BLUE [target]: You infect your target with a harmless BLUE pathogen. Any player they target or any player that targets them from now on will be infected as well.

Doppelganger (mafia)
(Auto) Evil Twin [non-mafia player]: You start the game as the exact copy of a non-mafia player. You can use any abilities they have. You cannot remove the Evil Twin or Urban Legend autos in any way.
(Auto) Urban Legend: If you or your original self action each other at night you will die.

Cyrano de Bergerac (town-ally)
(Wincon): You win if Player X survives to the end of the game. Player X is town.
(Auto) Fallen In Love [Player X]: You have fallen in love with Player X. If they die you will surely follow.
(Day 1 only) Christian de Neuvillette [target]: Cannot be Player X. You request that the target becomes your front for contact with Player X. The target must accept, and your target gains the auto Fallen In Love as well, regardless of their alignment. If your Christian front dies before Day 3 then My Panache unlocks early and activates automatically at the end of the day.
(Night) Words of Passion [target]: You will write a PM for your Christian to send to Player X, word for word. You can say whatever you want and your Christian must at least send a PM to Player X with what you've written.
(Day, Locked until Day 3) My Panache: Give a dramatic speech before dying. This replaces the lynch if one were to occur on that day. Player X will be able to survive one fatal action for the duration of the game.

I'm breaking my brain trying to do this...

(Night) Cry Wolf [target]: On the following morning you will publicly cry out that your target was seen visiting a random player that died the previous night, unless nobody died.
(Mafiakill, Night 3+) Woolf! For real this time!! [target1, target2]: Kill target1. On the following morning you will publicly cry out that target2 was seen visiting target1.

(Item) Poisoned Hot Dog: A tasty hot dog. The player isn't told it's poisoned.
(Night) Handout Hot Dogs [target1, target2]: Give a Hot Dog to target1 and a Poisoned Hot Dog to target2. They are informed they received a hot dog.
(One-Shot, Night) Chow Down: Every player with at least one hot dog will eat their hot dogs. If one hot dog is poisoned they will die the next night. If two hot dogs are poisoned they'll die at the end of the next day. If three or more hot dogs are poisoned they'll die the same night. Players aren't told they're poisoned.

EDIT:
Nerfed From Beyond the Grave.
Made Hot Dog Vendor more interesting.

Bomb Defusal Expert (town)
(Auto) Explosive Awareness: Knows which wire to cut to defuse the Time Bomb. Can set which day the Time Bomb will explode as long as they're holding it. Knows which player has the Time Bomb at the start of each phase. Starts the game with the Time Bomb.
(Item) Time Bomb: A time bomb that will explode on a certain day. Whoever is holding this item at the end of that day, dies. There are five colored wires you could try to cut during the day to stop the bomb: red, blue, green, white, and black. One of these wires will stop the bomb while the other four will detonate it instantly, killing the player. You may hand the bomb to someone else during the night instead of performing an action.

Flagbearer of Burden (mafia)

(Item) Flag: Mafia lose if the player holding the Flag is killed. You start the game holding the Flag.

(Auto) Whisper: You can communicate with any player at any time via PMs regardless of the game rules.

EDIT:
Changed the Time Bomb exploding to the end of the day as that seems better.

Sorry I don't play any mobile games.

On the topic of games though:

Amusingly, one day after finishing Case 3 of DGS2 on my 3DS, DGS1+2 were announced for an English release at the end of July. Capcom are going with the name The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and it will be on most platforms. I swear this keeps happening to me where a big announcement happens whenever I do something.

If you care about Ace Attorney at all (like myself) this is very good news if you're interested in playing half of the 3DS library. The only AA game that hasn't been officially localized now is Investigations 2 on DS and it likely never will. The fan translation is excellent however.

In the meantime, while waiting for Great AA to come out, Nintendo are releasing remakes of Famicom Detective Club Parts 1 and 2 on the Switch in May. I've played Part 2 on SNES and it was very good so these are likely going to be worth playing as well if you're interested in point & click murder mysteries at all. I'm quite a fan and seek out translations when they happen such as Chunsoft's classic Portopia that really kicked off the genre in Japan.

Mafia / Re: Notable Games Archive: One More Time!

This is going off my memory so it may not be 100% accurate...

Bastard Paranormal 2
Jail break! Human and alien prisoners alike attempt to escape from their captivity and board a ship to flee, however little do they know that not all prisoners have the same goal in mind...

Bastard Paranormal 3
Eleven alien exterminators are called to a space station on an asteroid to deal with a doppelganger threat. After discussing who the dopps could be and killing one of their own, everyone wakes the next morning to discover the killing game they've become a part of. Who will be victorious?

Supernatural 4
This mafia game goes awry as both town and mafia are tricked and deceived by cunning and villainous third-parties. Has one of the most devastating Night phases in Bay12 history.

Anyone feel free to make changes or point something out.

When is this starting?

I don't think we're going to get anymore players, but 9 players works if Caz returns to us and Vector isn't busy.

Of course, if anybody else wants to join...

EDIT:
Might I suggest when Dreams of Elan ends?

Stickied.

Also, shouldn't Bastard Paranormal 2 be under Bastard games instead of normal?
It should.

The description also isn't very... descriptive.

If I was going to nominate a Supernatural, it would probably be Supernatural 4. Supernatural 10 would definitely be towards the bottom of the list in terms of notability.
I agree. Supernatural 4 is iconic.

The Paranormal notable games are already a Leafsnail highlights reel though...

I think Bastard Paranormal 3 is a pretty strong contender for being notable. It's not exactly a game of mafia even if it starts as one, but it is indisputably something special and memorable.
I would say yes, under Bastard games.

EDIT:
Surprisingly, there are no Supernatural games in the notable list so I suppose having at least one would be appropriate. As for which one? Hard to say. I have a personal favorite, but I know others like Toaster have a different one in mind.
