I thought Ghost Protocol was pretty good.
Space Battleship Yamato starring Tom Cruise as Susumu Kodai.

Hey Neonivek, I can't remember if you've ever watched One Outs before, but I think you'd like it. The main character is basically Akagi.
@FlyingDice  See, Akagi is the perfect example of a protag with talent who knows he has talent and takes advantage of it super hard. Next to Legendary Gambler Tetsuya it's one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen in my life.
Joshua, give me more Akagi. I need more.
Well, I just finished reading the latest chapters of Gamble Fish, which I've been meaning to do for quite a while now. You can read any chapter of Gamble Fish and be flatout, knocked-on-your-ass stunned by how audaciously awesome it is.
How it's not already an anime is beyond me, but the MC there is simply the best. The best. The very best.
Wait, are you telling me somebody picked Gamble Fish back up? I thought they stopped during the Predator arc.

I had finally gotten around to binging on the rest of my Junji Ito collection. Including Gyo, Uzamaki, Tomie, and a few others. I'm sure there's still some errant loose stories I haven't read, but I might get around to them.

The horror value in all of them is deeply interesting. I really wish there was a videogame or something based on a Junji Ito works, where you're just just in a town trying to investigate the utterly bizarre, surreal horrors that are infesting and creeping into a town or into your own life. It'd be kinda like that HP Lovecraft game for the Xbox.
I would recommend I Am A Hero if you're liking Junji's stuff. It starts off pretty odd but then goes full on crazy.

At some point in the future either Majikoi will get translated or I will finally master Japanese, but then I'm going to have completely forgotten what was even happening.

oh wait it doesnt matter its majikoi

(I would like to see that true route)

EDIT:
If you're really dying for some Majkoi you could play Majikoi S. It doesn't really require the original game and it has a good route or two, maybe. Tsubame's was pretty good. The other translated ones...not so much. The common route was pretty great too.

Not a fan of Type-Moon so far, must say.
Aw. Type-Moon is way better than a lot of other companies!

Most VNs ARE awful; Let's be honest, the writing quality in pretty much all forms of media are pretty abysmal. I think peoples standards are set much too low if The Last of Us can be called a paragon of storytelling despite in actuality being only fine, acceptable. At some point not being complete shit started becoming the new good.
You're pretty much right. Even some of the best VNs I've read have incredibly iffy moments. Like, incredibly so. Enough that I kind of forget they even happen.

It's the only kind of thing I can think of where I can both hate a work and love it immensely.

If I was to marathon through one recent series from the past year, what would you recommend and why?
Knights of Sidonia for being a new hard sci-fi series, and having cool aliens.
I'm about half-way through Season 1 of this now. I can confirm that it's pretty great.

Kamidori is fun, but it's far from the best Eushully game. I wonder why Aroduc chose it to translate of all the possibilities, but I trust he made the right choice, as his taste is pretty good. It's ridiculously finicky to get working though, the underlying engine is total garbage.
Kamidori is finicky to get working?  I never had a problem ...

I certainly would be interested in further Eushully games though.
Nekohen (warning, anime as hell) have been doing interface patches and machine translations for a ton of Eushully stuff, along with other gameplay VNs.

Kamidori is fun, but it's far from the best Eushully game.
I hope so. I liked playing the game, but that writing was so mediocre.

I'd recommend Soukoku no Arterial then.
Yes. Anything that involves fighting demons with card games. (I actually have no idea what it's about)

Yeah, you'd probably want to look up what all the combat icons mean too.

Daiteikoku, the only game where savescumming is a game mechanic!
Daitei was the first Alice game I bothered finishing so I have a soft spot for it. Apparently, some group is translating the Core route if you check TLWiki, but I already played that with a text hooker...

We have a thread for this? Huh. Well I plan to play Muv-Luv once I finish getting my labtop set up.
Extra first, always. I'm also still waiting for someone to edit TheDayAfter01 since it's a machine translation.

I'd probably do something like this:

Mr. President
-10 Free Vote stealer
+1 Minimalist
+1 Hardcore
+1 Dense
+2 One-shot

Tom Mayor
-5 Double-Voter
maybe some flaws for other stuff

The Saint
-4 Free Cleanse
other good stuff

Have The Saint cleanse Mr. President's one-shot, and then have Pres steal two random town player's votes (if they're nonvoters then that makes our job easier). Have everybody play dumb while we steal everybody's votes through the game. Once we're sure we have more votes than the town we can quick-hammer for the win (kills can't happen for 24 hours after day start remember). Tom Mayor and The Saint also have "town" looking roles, though I have to admit having a cleanse in your initial build may look really scummy if you think about it.

Ideally, you could get Mr. President prolific for triple vote steals, and Tom Mayor could get vote stealer as well.

So. This game.

2/3 scum chose unable to vote. 66%
3/9 town chose unable to vote. 33%

Numbers man.

But not only that, if scum had my build listed above and hit two town players who decided that having a vote was actually a good idea, scum would have a majority on Day 1. I'm suuuuuuuuuuure that some town players would pick either kill or changeling though, so scum would be wisest to hang back on their vote monopoly. If The Saint could get protect and the other two hardy that would be better.

It would look like this though:

Day 1 start.

Scum have 4 votes.
Town have 6 votes.

Pres steals two votes (which he has a good chance of pulling off).

Scum have 6 votes.
Town have 4 votes.

Uh oh town

So, just finished NGE and EoE for the second time, and I'm considering watching the Rebuilds now. I'm a tad hesitant about it though, as I'm worried that they'll not live up to their source. Can anyone that has seen any of them tell me if they're good or not?
theyre good

You all really should have been more suspicious of me.
Sorry for not doubting the guy who got both of his teammates killed. :P

I was pretty disappointed nobody mask swapped in the whole game; there was a lot scum could have done to be cannier.
I probably would have if I was mafia. It seemed like the only way to counter the super-vig Flabort.

Also I retract my statement, good shot TolyK.
