Mafia / Re: Toon Mafia VII - But I Don't Want To Re:Love! [Game Over]

Yeah I didn't know what to do since the visit clashed.

(also I wanted to be silly)

Also, if you noticed, all of the girls who didn't need a male companion all got them pretty early on.  Like Tiruin or Nerjin.

5597
@Lenglon:
Toonyman: what makes Ottofar more scummy than NQT? you didn't post a reason when you voted beyond "he seems more scummy".
Hold on a moment, I have an answer below.

@Leafsnail:
Your reads seems sincere...also,
Vector: If I had to condense the problem I'm having with your posts, it's that you're spending quite a lot of time and words in tangential discussions with Lenglon and Tiruin, while only touching on fairly superficial points when scumhunting (such as me talking about investigations, NQT's alleged focus on "instead").  It means I'm struggling to tell what your thoughts are on the core issues of the game, such as which people are mafia members.  Who do you think is mafia members?
While that's agreeable and all (I was voting Vector just before after all), why are you avoiding the prime lynches?  Even if my vote was still on Vector it would only be two votes and wouldn't hold enough power for a lynch unless we doubled our assets.

@Toaster & Tiruin:
Toaster is probably right overall in his arguments, every point Tiruin has addresses like the "he answered your question fully!" were rebutted with something like "but right afterwards he misdirected everybody with twice as many words" which I can't disagree with.  In fact Toaster probably has the best case on NQT.  No Dariush you don't count.

@Zombie Urist:
Its problematic but there's an easy way to solve that. I do agree that excessively trying to stay alive is scummy. I don't remember defending him.  :-\

Ottofar: Who's scummy besides NQT?
NQT: Who's the scummiest person who isn't currently voting you?

I know there's some stuff I'm not addressing but I'm going to sleep.  :-X
I had to restrain myself from voting you immediately after reading this post.  It reeks of "phew pressure is off of me now from the big bad scary men, everything is fine now :D".

In-character would be a peaceful place, yeah.  I'm not sure how that's unclear, since the only other this would be "do not want witch-trials".
You're my second lynch pick right now, but I have a better idea at the moment.
That still doesn't quite make sense not to mention is pretty redundant. "A peaceful place is purely for the good of the people". "Do not want witch-trials is purely for the good of the people" isn't a well formed English sentence at all.
Anyways the important thing I got from this is that you probably tacked on that sentence and didn't think it through.
Yep.

@NQT:
Also, I'm suspicious of Tiruin and Toonyman, who in case people weren't paying attention have both just claimed 3rd-party. They might still be pro-town, but I know from experience that Tiruin is adept at misrepresenting the aims of a 3rd party role:
Wait no there's a huge misunderstanding.  I'm town.  My character's flavor just wasn't happy with hunting witches (like you can read in the Day 1 start post).

That kind of makes me happy though, the fact you misunderstood that means you're genuinely not scum or you're a devious player.

@Dariush:
Toony, let's play a game. I will guess what you're doing and then you will say how close to the mark I am. Okay? Well, I can't hear you and you can't read this post until I, well, post it, so I'll assume you agree. Okay, here is my guess: You saw that your scumbuddy is the leader in votes this close to day end and you decided to tie the votes for a non-existent reason to save him. You didn't explain why you consider OF more scummy (or scummy at all, since I don't remember you addressing him at all) and you didn't explain what those opinion-changing chips might be. You haven't asked OF any questions, so he has no way to defend himself. Thus, you have a tie-making vote you put there without any explanation and self-admittedly aren't planning to shift anywhere. Okay, I'm done. Was I correct? (hint: yes, I was)
Errrrm, nope!  I thought you would figure it out which would be kind of neat.  Basically, at the time I had no more ammo left on Vector and didn't want to waste my vote, so what do I do?  Zombie Urist is pretty empty too, but I don't really want to see NQT get lynched.  But then there's Ottofar.  The fact NQT and Lenglon favor town to me probably helps with my decision.  So I put my vote on Ottofar, not only would I be fine with his lynch, but I also tie the vote now thanks to Deathsword bowing out.  Now another player will have to either have a change of heart or an outside player needs to vote NQT or Ottofar.  Thus, another player would have to come up with a reason to vote either NQT and Ottofar.

Of course there's some criticism, tying the vote is generally booed upon and I didn't have time to make an actual case on Ottofar (though I haven't favor him town this game).  I also lacked the thought of somebody else being lynched like Vector or Zombie Urist, but I figured within 24 hours there wouldn't be three vote changes onto somebody like that.  In fact I think it's still a tie, but I'm sure that'll change in our now extended-again day.

@Ottofar:
@Ottofar:
Look, I tied the votes.  We have over an entire day to deal with this dilemma though so I'm not worried.  I think you're more scummy than NQT.  And unless other people throw their chips in this isn't going to go anywhere.
Good for you. Why do you think so?
I could pick apart this post for adding literally nothing to this game, but let's be easy here.  Your vote on NQT was back from the very beginning of the game and you've just...left it on there.  You've made additional statements yes, but I like sticking my vote on somebody and not moving when I'm scum too.  It's like the polar opposite of vote-swapping.  Also, your main cases have been against NQT and Lenglon, who are both currently voting you.  And your lack of activity that just barely survives the prod time limit is apparent.  I don't feel as confident as a vote on someone I find more scummy, but I'm being adaptive here.  Since in mafia you're playing with other people there's a bit of leeway here.  For example, my vote on Zombie Urist only held lynching power when others were voting him as well.  If I were to switch my vote (though I'd prefer if NQT stays alive) it would be on Vector.

For further investigation, you have a possibility of dying right now, does that bother you?  Who do you think might save you?

The absence of Deathsword (yeah I know they dropped) and Griffinpup is bothersome, Griffinpup should be back before day end though.  Also Okami needs to post too, probably passed out under the couch or something.

Comparing the VNs, Steins;Gate is a large improvement over Chaos;Head, but it's also longer and the build-up is slower.  JAST USA are planning to release an official translation of the game which will probably be the best version to play yourself.

Also I agree that the latter half can be pretty neat, but it doesn't reach like, Higurashi Kai gripping levels...

EDIT:
Higurashi's silly comedy.
I seem to remember finding the comedy in the early games pretty annoying or boring, but by Kai I loved them.

Unvote Vector.  I don't see a reason to vote you anymore.

@Leafsnail:
No time.  Town feelings on NQT, Lenglon, Toony.  Mafia on Vector.  Will look at griffin's post properly later.
Feel like Toony will probably scumdie tonight, maybe ZU.  Lenglon/NQT would be inspected
Why is Vector mafia?  Why would ZU get night-killed?

@Zombie Urist:
You got me, I have no idea how to respond to your line of questioning anymore.  If you have an answer you were looking for you can tell me.
I was assuming my character didn't have any knowledge of any misfortune striking his town (preposterous even), if I ctrl+f my role PM for the words "plague", "famine", "drought", and "miscarriage" I get zero hits.  So yes, he may know and I was just being an idiot.  This is the only thing I can think of.
This post from Tiruin responding to a Lenglon inquire is interesting.  Lenglon's character seems to have a motivation for witch-hunting, Tiruin is purposely withholding because it's "confusing", and my character does not want to witch-hunt (not that I'm going to listen to him).
You also accuse NQT and Dariush here, but one of your stated reasons for NQT is that they're "female".  I am not voting Vector because their character is female, but because I don't believe their intentions are sincere, Mr. Old-Clothes Salesman.
As a question towards you, how do you see Ottofar right now?
"I wish for a peaceful place, and do not want witch-trials ravaging the town.  This is purely for the good of the people."
What is "purely for the good of the people?"
a) A peaceful place
b) Witch Trials
c) Other
=====
My reason for NQT is being female and a carpenter, which I did not believe existed in this time period.
Ottofar is mostly null to slightly town. It would be nice if he posted more.
In-character would be a peaceful place, yeah.  I'm not sure how that's unclear, since the only other this would be "do not want witch-trials".

You're my second lynch pick right now, but I have a better idea at the moment.

@Lenglon:
Toonyman: I full-flavor-claimed earlier, so me going ahead and adding my description to the lot seems lower-risk than having someone else do so. Do you think I should claim my description now that I have it?
Uh, sure.  I saw your full-claim post earlier (which I really don't understand why you bothered to do that), but might as well add your physical appearance too in your case.

@Ottofar:
Look, I tied the votes.  We have over an entire day to deal with this dilemma though so I'm not worried.  I think you're more scummy than NQT.  And unless other people throw their chips in this isn't going to go anywhere.

On the basis I've been cried foul, I'll vote for an extend to get Leafsnail and Griffinpup time and let Deathsword get a possible replacement.

@Vector:
Your argument is that I'm active-lurking because I'm attacking Lenglon, my main suspect out of the various people whom I initially questioned?  Are you serious?  Where is the lack of contribution?
Well, the way I see it you've behaving on a "respond when responded to" policy and your posts largely consistent of banter with Lenglon.  It makes it hard to even remember they're your top scum pick.

Wait, was there a carpenter here?  I may have apprenticed my sons to you.
NQT claimed journeyman carpenter, but "a journeyman could not employ others." I'm assuming "employ" also extends to apprenticeships since its not explicitly stated.
Oh, right.  Maybe all three have the same master, then.
Why is this listed under "Lenglon" in your list?  If you're going to chainsaw, at least get it right.  I realize this is only one point, but on the other hand it demonstrates that you were writing your case on autopilot.
To be fair the first quote was within 48 hours from my post date, however I didn't click back a page to get it so I'll let that settle.  The second quote is completely my bad, but to put this into perspective I incorrectly labeled one quote out of nine.  89% success rate.

List of suspects... Lenglon.
Ottofar, Deathsword and Zombie Urist are on my watchlist but they can wait for now.  Ottofar is the one I'm most worried about.  Something feels genuinely off about him.
I can agree with most of these.  Ottofar and Zombie Urist are suspicious to me.  I don't really remember what Deathsword is doing (attack on Grffinpup?) and Lenglon I think is attracting unwarranted attention like NQT.

@Zombie Urist:
"I wish for a peaceful place, and do not want witch-trials ravaging the town."  It's the only thing "this" could be referring to.
That doesn't make any sense. Are you saying a "peaceful place" is for the good of the people? Are "the witch trials" for the good of the people? Is your wish for the good of the people? Also I find it hard to believe that the viscount is unaware of the famine and drought going on in his town.

As a question towards you, how do you see Ottofar right now?

@Tiruin:
ToonyMan: "I suppose you know what you whispered to one of your men before he rode off, right?"
Shooting a PM at LNCP.  I can only imagine I wanted to inform my wife and the guards and stuff there.

Anyway. You voted Vector for active lurking. What was in her context that deserved that vote?
What do you see in lurkers that gets them a vote? What do you see in lurkers in general?
For Vector what I saw was an inactive player that was still posting.  After my vote she has a nice post or two responding to me and others and giving scum opinions and a giving real accusations towards Lenglon, but afterwards it's bickering again, and then she's completely flip-flops on NQT, which I can even see Lenglon doing.  The whole ellipsis and then accepting the other's point.

I usually don't vote lurkers since I forget they're even playing, which is bad on me I guess.  I don't think Ottofar or Leafsnail are playing particularly well right now and a large reason is because they're just barely here.

I would vote a lurker if I knew they were available but weren't posting.  Like for example I can remember asking "where are you Toaster?", but he usually immediately appeared afterwards by coincidence.  Basically, if you've had a full day to post and have not, you are likely purposely avoiding participation and that's a scum tell (or maybe you're really stressed out from real-life but then I wouldn't consider you very "available" anyway).

24 is pretty popular in Japan.

Unvote Zombie Urist.  I'm feeling a bit muddled.

*ToonyMan shrugs greatly and crosses his arms, contemplating.*

@Okami:
On the flipside, by offering up NQT as a sacrificial lamb (who may happen to have the least significant flavour), they not only provide a reasonable smokescreen for not revealing their own flavour, they also encourage the rest of the town to claim, giving them more information.  (I'd like to note here that scum had a whole night to discuss their opening play, so I wouldn't put any gambits past them.)
This struck me as a key point of this game.  I feel if we were able to gleam NQT's alignment somehow it would be pivotal in our scum-hunting since people's reactions to him have been quite extreme.  Since he clearly came into this game at a full sprint with his opening post.  I wouldn't want to lynch him just to give a litmus test and I don't find him lynch-worthy right now.

Anyway, now that NQT's responded to the question, I'd say he's telling the truth.  "I didn't consider it." is a weak, yet honest, excuse, and I can't really do anything more with it than admonish him for not thinking before acting.
I suppose, if he's town.

@Tiruin:
Tiruin:
NQT
"Bonjour everyone! My name is Katherine Boulengier and I am a journeyman carpenter, new to this ville. Alors! It is most effroyable to be quarantined like so, and our best hope is to find zese mauvais witches as rapidly as possible. To facilitate zis, I suggest we all share our names and professions."
"Alright, how is sharing one's identity even going to help here? Or possibly track who is a witch or not? If these things were such, then the inquisition would be easily finding them by now. Unless it is the inquisition, which I doubt.
"Still. My name is Gillette Doulze, an aid to my father's inn. I am not from this town, but on errands from my father and sternly advised by my mother. Local marketplace groceries and such. This seems to be a very strange point you're making. Meaning that you didn't continue on this point you made from earlier.
"
Now, earlier I said I was suspicious about the claims, aye? Here's my suspicion. While this does avert the notion of people not knowing each other (and on the notion of being a common point given the idea that scum only know alignment difference and all that), this is strange in itself in asking the name and profession and connecting it with directly finding witches.
What would you hope to gain other than knowing our name and probable profession?
I find it odd that you vote NQT for asking for claims then immediately proceed to claiming yourself anyway.  Why is asking for it scummy when you're willing to do it anyway?
Toaster is right here, you did what Okami did a few days ago and it still bothers me to contradict yourself like that.  I think in Okami's case he said soft-claiming is the right way to go (as a bunch of people have agreed, like Dariush and Toaster and me), but NQT's action to claim and then tell everybody else that they should claim was a bit forceful and leads to suspicion.

@Lenglon:

No.

"I wish for a peaceful place, and do not want witch-trials ravaging the town.  This is purely for the good of the people."
So your dude is ok with famine and miscarriage? What does "this" refer to?
I don't think my character was even aware of such famine and miscarriage actually taking place.  When he heard news of the Inquistors he was shocked and came down at once.
I don't understand what you mean by this.  Blame my writing skills if that's the case.  I wanted to respond in-character.

I still wouldn't disagree for you as the first lynch.  Okami moved off NQT and onto you, which makes sense, and Leafsnail is the other person voting with you onto Okami and I can't say Leafsnail has been very convincing even if he's only making phone posts.  Plus, I have to find you out-of-character meta-wise considering your unterse nature right now as the usually terseful man.

Toonyman: I don't understand why you voted Zombie Urist. why did you do that? the only thing you addresed to him in your vote post was an explanation of why you thought we were in Germany.
I thought mimicking his actions would be interesting since I didn't like his vote on Okami.

. . . To the idea that scum are always playing a role?
Couldn't you argue that town also play in role?  I don't really think people are out to kill us.

For a whole post of content this is in incredibly passive and timid.  Always hold a vote on somebody even after unvoting someone.  I can only really give you a free pass for the briefest of moments thanks to seeing your play in TM7.

Dariush:  What lessons from the previous WC games do you think can be applied to this one?
Well, witches will probably turn out to not be the main threat, but some other magic users will. In the first game we had a wizard with a golem, next we had elves, now I won't be surprised if we have druids with shamans and spirits of the dead people from the previous games or something.
Wow really?  I never would have knew this since I haven't checked the older games.  Good to know.

"Lord Crussol, you are quite right in zat no one is above suspicion. No one, zat is, but the Pope. What is your problem with ze papacy?"
"I wish for a peaceful place, and do not want witch-trials ravaging the town.  This is purely for the good of the people."

@Leafsnail:
Either you missed my post or you're trying to avoid a reply.
I see little benefit to be gleaned from flavour claim town wise because the witches can be anyone, as made clear in the flavour.  On the other hand interesting town people would be more likely to have roles and would therefore be clear murder candidates for the scum.  Dariush's quoted passage doesn't suggest that claiming is a good idea at all.
So you say, but from that point I can only see it as WIFOM for the mafia.  The viscount must have a pretty powerful ability, right?  R-right??  Ehehe.  Or that widow must not be anything special...maybe.

Soft-claims:
Toaster
I am Jean Petit, a farmer of moderate means.  I have come into town with a wagonload of vegetables to sell this summer in the market.  Said wagon is still sitting in the stables at the inn where I'm staying.

German people
I don't see any German people.
I saw Katherine and didn't bother to check the last name, also the link I posted about the papal bull thing mentions Germany as relevent, you know, Heinrich Kramer and stuff.

Toonyman:
What players in this game are you worried about?  What players do you have meta-reads on them?
Probably Leafsnail for screwing me over in every mafia game this year so far (VLR, BYOR11) and Okami no Rei for his aggressive play on me in King of the Mafia III.  Dariush will probably swear at me at some point when he shows up too.  I have meta-reads on almost everybody in the game besides the more new players (started playing this year), but I'm not sure that will give me any huge advantage.

@Okami:
I agree that Notquitethere throwing out his soft-claim while also telling others to do the same without much discussion on the matter is odd (and I would predict people flavor-claiming D1 would have happened anyway), but your vote case here:
I turned around and questioned NQT on it because it does (faintly) smack of rolefishing and was therefore the scummiest thing I'd seen anyone do thus far (not a high bar to meet in the second playing post of the game).
I would consider too weak for a lynch, and if you end up building a case for a lynch just because of NQT's first post I would not be concurred.
