Hmm. . . I've by now quite a sizable, and diverse, frigate fleet (by my standards anyhow),
I still need to finish researching the larger M jumpdrive, but I decided to start designing a 10-12 tonne destroyer yesterday eve... I figured I need to get some research done on big beamers, because it ended up being something a ship with less missiles than a F-M, less point defence than a F-E/F-EB and less lasers than my standard Frigate, less speed, less fuel, less everything but sensors and defences.

Maybe I just need to forget about an allround Destroyer and design it as a larger, better defended missile frigate?

Placeholder Mountainhomes could be just extra huge sewers with extras and a few trade/fortifications up top.
As long as there is someplace to have dwarves hang out.
to be honest, even a human style village with all the dwarves/elves in the inns would be preferable to the empty spots they are currently. :)

That makes me consider:
It would be cool if (normal) engines could be overtaxed, just like in the books. . .
or rather: run at less than 100% for a boost to maintenance.

What mini says is the way to go.
(Build everything into the 'Yard TF, then split off and join target fleet)
Growing fleets are usually on maneuvres anyhow.

also: Aren't populace asking for defence against missiles? (Not just more AS missiles overhead)

when I add a second bridge (not a flagbridge) to my shipdesign,
does it function as a backup-bridge (eg has bridge an actual function, besides being mandatory)
or does it just double the chance of the bridge getting hit and thus officer-victims?
AFAIK the only data about the bridge is that it is required for ships over 1000t. I have never seen a bridge damaged in battle, and I don't believe it can be.

I know, like LostCosmonaut writes sometimes officers can be killed by a direct hit. I think I've seen it happen.
So if, as suspected, a bridge has no function besides giving the exec a place to stand (and be killed), adding a back-up bridge would probably only be counter productive.
A logical consequence of bridge loss would be -loss of leader bonuses (rendering captain a passenger) and/or a fixed initiative penalty.

I have another game this time. It was some kind of weird obstacle course bullshit game.
Basically you were a spaceship and had to reach the end of the course. I believe there was some galaxy or planet waiting at the end.
I think the ship also had fuel(not sure) and you died whenever you touched a wall.

Your ship could jump to change platforms or avoid obstacles completely.
And if it is any help, the ship could also go OVER the tunnel instead of under.

I did that IIRC... but maybe I opened it before SM mode.
Screens not updating messed me up before.  ::)

Mini: interesting... maybe a not too hightech alien outpost on Mars would be survivable for a pre-N Earth.

@Marc : yeah, you really need to use the golden age of navies (late 19th-early 20th centuries) for background stuff. :)

@EhndraS: Cewl. My 1st game of Au since long was an attempt to combine Xcom with Au:
start in the 50's and start with alien crap to research. didn't manage to put alien wrecks on the moon though (&ruins on Mars). Anyone know how todo that? Anyhow, then my labs went all negative on me.

Bomber fighters could also be armed with shortranged powerful warheads in boxlaunchers. But that is probably not your design philosophy.

Fighting an NPC thaty is higher tech than me. Just got 4 fighters vs loss of 2 of my laser frigates (+one cripple)... hmm... I'm going to need capital missile frigates to tackle those 6000 and 14000 tonne contacts.

With this "J'accuse!" button,
1) you can accuse anyone or only those dwarves who have decent evidence against them?
2) What happens if you accuse an innocent dwarf? angry dwarf friends?
3) Is there such a button for every commited/noticed/reported crime? or is it a generic button to accuse a dwarf of a certain crime.
4) Will there be more random/mandate crimes now?
e.g. Consumption of sewerbrew is forbidden.
